DoubleTree by Hilton Toluca

A recently built hotel, no expense spared. Rooms are spacious and well equiped, bathroom was large, but showerhead needed replacing. Great beds (as we expect in the Hilton chain). Gym was large and with a view (for once!), with multiple treadmills, though the stretching area lacked mats Great staff, always helpful. Breakfast was great, and there is a handy cafe. Most negative is the location, essentially in an industrial area with limited shops and higher-class eateries around. There is a nearby convenience store, however. Good security.

The hotel has nice spaces and very open areas, which looks comfortable. However, it seems that management has given the staff a directive on not giving an inch to Hilton Honors members. I asked for early check-in when I reserved. When i got to the hotel, no recognition of my Diamond status. I was asked to wait until noon for my room. Asked for an upgrade: nil. NO upgrade! We got a standard room where the thermostat did not work right. Asked them to fix it, having detailed what was wrong: no fix. Then, the kicker. I asked for a late checkout. I was offered 1 hour: standard was 1200, I was offered 1300 (Insulting). I then offered to pay 1/2 the daily rate for a checkout at 8PM. NO. Only 6PM. What is wrong for granting a Diamond member another 2 hours when I offered to pay 1/2 the daily rate? They told me if I wanted to stay until 8PM, I'd had to pay full nightly rate. This is the second time at a HIlton property in Mexico I run into nonchalance and indifference to my Hilton status. Looks like a chronic problem initiated by managers.

The architecture of the hotel is particularly beautiful: very generous halls and sitting facilities give a feeling of space and luxury. Everything is obviously very new and corresponds to the newest technical standard. The bedrooms are also large and comfortable. Large working desk, light, wifi etc also provide easy possibilities to work in the room, if wished. For my taste there is only one negative point: apparently all rooms have only showers (no bathtub!!!). For people who love having a bath this is, of course, annoying. The situation is worsened by the fact that in hotels on the American continent there is not even a hand-held shower. I knew this detail from U.S. hotels, but I was hoping to find something better in Mexico, since in my opinion Mexico has more in common with Europe than the U.S.A. I am afraid I was wrong in this point. The staff was very, very friendly and helped in every way. The breakfast buffet had a large variety of foods and drinks, including - of course - typical Mexican dishes. The hotel has its own parking garage (no charge), which is locked during the night. It is possible to park the car directly or request valet parking, your choice. Toluca has an elevation of 2660 m (8060 ft). In March at night it can get cold. I was pleased to find out that the thermostat in the bedroom functioned also as a heater and provided a pleasant temperature. I hope I will have the occasion to go again to the Doubletree in Toluca.

I came into Toluca for business and wanted a place with a pool, so disappointed. 3 feet across, hot tub was barely warm. Bed was ok. Remote didn't work. Shower was horrible sprayed everywhere else but my head. The breakfast was horrible ended up paying 700 pesos for me and my 2 kids and they didn't even eat anything because it was just tasteless. Hotel is ok, but the amenities are super sub par. Don't waste your money.

As moving around and having reliable transportation in Toluca can be a challenge, this great guy Oscar Hernandez at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Toluca, is a wonderful option. Highly recommended!
