Hyatt Place Hampi

Location: The hotel is situated within the serene JSW Vidyanagar township, providing a peaceful environment away from the chaos of Hospet. Although it's about an hour from Hampi's attractions, the tranquil setting compensates for the distance.

We stayed at Hyatt Hampi during our recent trip, and while the infrastructure, décor and overall appearance of the hotel were quite impressive, the maintenance and service levels fell way short of expectations. From the moment we arrived, the experience was underwhelming. There was no warm welcome (and no welcome drink - we had travelled 350+ kms!), and despite having requested an early check-in well in advance, our room was allotted with a delay. The room itself had clearly undergone recent paintwork, leaving behind a strong musty, damp smell that made it uncomfortable. The shift managers seemed aware of this and yet we were given this room. We had a change of room thereafter. Although we were informed at the time of booking that a rollaway bed was not available, we later discovered that the option did exist. No one came to set up the sofabed either despite informing the front desk - and when we eventually checked, it turned out to be broken. As a result, our first night was far from comfortable. The attached pool was also not cleaned until we repeatedly reminded the staff. Additionally, the bathroom door had no latch, which was highly inconvenient, especially with children around. Breakfast offered a very limited spread, though dinner was delicious. The hotel in general appeared understaffed and undertrained. The same team that served us dinner late at night was back again at 7 a.m. for breakfast service, and they seemed stretched thin. At the reception, several desks remained unmanned, and many of our calls from the room went unanswered. We shared our concerns with the shift managers, but unfortunately, nothing tangible was done to improve our stay. We had travelled to celebrate our anniversary, but returned feeling disappointed. Since this is the only full-service hotel in Vidyanagar, perhaps guest occupancy is steady, leading to a certain indifference towards individual guest experiences. Regardless, our stay did not meet the standards we associate with the Hyatt brand.
