Located in southern Hokkaido, Toyako is a small, scenic town in Japan. Home to a variety of natural scenery, it’s no surprise that the city was chosen to be the venue of the G8 Summit in 2008. Toyako is accessible via the Sapporo New Chitose Airport (CTS). Visitors arriving at the airport can take a bus to Toyako.
The most well-known attraction in the city is Lake Toya, a volcanic lake that forms part of a geopark. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is truly an excellent place to relax and have a picnic, or even take part in hiking. Usuzanfunka Memorial Park is also located within the city limits of Toyako.
Many attractions can be found a short distance from Toyako’s city center as well, including the Kimundo Waterfall, Toyareikuhiru Golf Club, and Showashinzan Ropeway. These natural attractions are great places to visit when in Toyako.
Toyako has chilly winters and mild summers. The average temperature during the summer months is just 78 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, dropping to around 50 degrees at night. During the winter months at the beginning of the new year, the average temperature is around 45 degrees Fahrenheit, with nighttime lows under 20 degrees.
