Susitna River Lodging, Backwoods Cabins

The cabins are so nice, right in the river, can't even tell you how nice they were, just go! Clean, attention to detail, kitchenette comfy, private, path to river, a fox visited us, the one front desk lady is kinda stiff but the other one is amazing.

Lovely riverside Lodge with clean comfortable room on the edge of Talkeetna with easy walking access to restaurants, shops and train station. An excellent stopping off point between Anchorage and Denali . Reception staff were also very help.

Susitina River Lodge, a pleasant surprise in Talkeetna. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and equipped with a mini kitchen, where you can make your own breakfast. It has a beautiful view of the Susitina River. Beautiful, charming and comfortable place. Congratulations!

We stayed in one of the backwoods cabins for 3 nights. It was a lovely cabin, set just off the river. The cabin was clean and cosy, and a great location for exploring Talkeetna and the surrounding area. We received a really warm welcome by the staff, who were also happy to provide suggestions on places to eat nearby. The only slight negative was the wifi wasn’t great in the cabin, but there was a lounge area in the main building where the wifi was good, so we just spent some pleasant evenings hanging out there.

Not only was there no one there to greet us in the afternoon when we arrived but no one bothered to let us know this before we arrived. So we stood waiting for someone to turn up before realising we had to fend for ourselves. After a non existent welcome, you'd think that during our stay someone would have bothered to say hello to us while we were there and to check we had everything we needed. But no, we were ignored by the staff. I overheard the owner telling a coach driver, that the place was small enough to run by itself. Well no, each customer deserves some sort of customer service! They clearly weren't interested in us as we had pre-paid and they had our money. Literally no member of staff spoke to us! Had to laugh as the cleaner had left an envelope on a dirty stained table in our room requesting we leave a tip! And she managed to pass us without greeting us. Our tip would be to remember your customers pay your salary! The room was hot and stuffy and no one had bothered to leave a window open to cool it down. There was no air conditioning so an open window would have been appreciated. There were several flights of stairs to contend with. We don't have mobility issues but it would be a problem for anyone who does and there was no one to help with our luggage. No catering on site and no one to ask where to go for breakfast and dinner etc in the area. Luckily we found a lovely lodge in the area where we were able to enjoy lovely views of Denali and dinner. Our tip would be to stay elsewhere where you are appreciated.

We were fortunate to stay in Suite 1 which had a private covered veranda overlooking the Susitna River. Easy walk to downtown. Friendly and accommodating staff that helped get us and our luggage to the train station after our stay. Would gladly stay here again.
