We went for an evening meal, a family of four, on a Thursday night. Having been told the day before by a member of staff that we didn’t need to book, we didn’t. Well… our bad! We arrived and we were told that the kitchen was busy and we had to wait 1/2 hour which was fine, so we said we will wait having a drink in the beer garden. 40 mins later, we went back in to see they were ready for us but… nope, a big party had booked and ordered so we would have to wait another 40 mins, minimum. Why they didn’t tell us beforehand is beyond me! So we left, disappointed and hungry.

The pub is nice and offers a selection of good typical food. We stayed a night in a room which was fairly good, but the bathroom and shower would need a better maintainance. It was friday night, and in our room we hear a disturbing noise coming from the bar almost until midnight. The owners and rest of the staff were really kind.

never know if food is being cooked or not. beer ok though. Sometimes just cake and coffee/tea. hit and miss for restraunt or bar meals. Most staff are friendly, locals suggest other places to eat. On a main route through Wales to the coast and not many other places to stop for a snack, you would think there would be some enthusiasm for hungry travelers.

We had forgotten that Montgomeryshire folk don't hold with strange meal times so by the time we arrived at a very relaxed 1400 for our Sunday lunch (and we were the last), the beef had ran out. Fair enough. The 'specials' on the bar chalkboard weren't available either, which suggests they are probably permanently special unless someone forgot to rub them out from Saturday. The remaining choice of Sunday meats - chicken or pork - were fine, although in this part of the world, lamb would have been a welcome option. The meals were served attentively with a good range of vegetables and gravy, although the hard roast potatoes, bullets by now, had probably been sitting around a bit too long. Moral - get there early, 1230 prompt!

We passed on the motorbike on road trip from Cornwall. and we stopped for Sunday lunch and drinks. Amazing food, had the small portion and couldn't even finish it. Meat roast potatoes, parsnip, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower cheese, picture without the veg). Gravy was out of this world. Food was perfect. Large beer garden at the back with events tent, seating out the front and plenty inside. Pool table, lovely clean toilets. Staff were attentive, helpful and happy. Would definitely recommend to others. A must if you are passing through.

Stayed for a couple of nights really pleasant and enjoyable stay. The room was lovely and clean and comfortable. The Landlord and his staff were very pleasant and friendly, nothing to much trouble. Food was delicious and a beautiful full English breakfast every morning. Well worth a visit.
