Newmarket travel organised the trip. Communication with them is appalling !!! I am still waiting for them to contact me seven weeks after my first email and numerous calls. When I get through I am PROMISED I will be contacted by a manager. Food terrible, 75% of us got diarrhoea and sickness . Lack of staff. Accommodation basic. I am owed a refund for plane seats that I booked after being told we needed to pay. Also a trip I paid extra for I was t able to go as in bed I’ll fit 30 hours. No customer service at the hotel or from Newmarket Travel.

Excellent staff, good food, great location. Magnificent setting. A lot of traffic so a bit noisy with windows open but once closed it was fine. Lake Como is a busy place and the roads are narrow but that is part of the charm

Very disappointed in the standard of food offered by this hotel. Tinned fruit, limited tinned or frozen vegetables, chopped iceberg lettuce, toms and grated carrot for a starter salad, ordinary pizza and a few chips and sorbet as one of the night’s three course option. Not what we were hoping for when we booked a week’s package holiday in Italy, with their reputation for food. The location of the hotel on a main road and with a dangerous walk on sections of the road without pavements to access the lakeside and the ferry terminal added to the disappointment. On the plus side most of the staff were friendly. The area is beautiful but the hotel let itself down.

I have just returned having stayed at The Lario through Newmarket Holidays. The Lario staff were polite and helpful and our Newmarket Guide Florea Alexandru Gabriel (Alex) was superb a very knowledgeable guide and most helpful. I would definitely recommend this trip. 😎👍

We have just returned (27 Sept - 4 Oct 2023) from the New Market Holidays 8 day Lake Como and Bernina Express tour and are absolutely thrilled with the experience we have just had. Our Tour director Florea Aleandru Gabriel (Alex) met us at the airport and transfered us to our hotel - The Hotel Lario. Alex promised to entertain us and impart his knowledge with us - he did not disappoint, the local and national knowledge he was able to share with us was incredible, and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He is a real credit to New Market Holiday and himself. The Hotel Lario is a family run hotel that was clean and simple, exactly what was needed for our base. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot and our room, facing the mountains was quiet and cool despite the unexpected heat. The staff are friendly and always happy to help The food was incredible, it was traditional Italian Holiday food (pasta, meat, potatoes etc) and was always very tasty. We had a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and a dessert each day for dinner as part of our package. The breakfast was a good continental selection of pastries, fresh fruit, eggs etc. The outside seating are was lovely in the early morning and evening to watch the sun and moon rise over the mountains. The roads from the hotel to the towns are narrow but once we found our confidence walking them was not a problem at all. We used the public boat and bus service on our free days and this was simple and convenient. Taking the slow boat down the Lake to Como is just beautiful and give a different perspective to this stunning area.

Stayed at the Lario for a week as part of a Newmarket tour of the area. After reading previous reviews I was quite concerned and packed lots of food to supplement our meals. These thankfully weren’t needed. The hotel is definitely 3* and does ,as previously mentioned, need some tweaking, BUT it was also a clean, quiet, friendly base for our week. Our room at the back was clean, quiet with ample storage, hot powerful shower, large comfortable bed and a small balcony with chairs and a lovely view overlooking the mountains and ancient historic church. Breakfast was a typical European affair of yogurts, bread for toasting with preserves, cold meat and cheese, fresh and tinned fruits, cereals . There was also scrambled eggs and bacon but I never ate those as they didn’t look very appetising. The evening meal consisted of 3 courses with a choice of 2starters and 2 mains. You were asked to make your choice the evening before which did seem to upset some people but did mean that our food was ready to be served promptly when we sat down, which as there were several large tour groups in the dining room could have been an issue otherwise, and also meant that if there was nothing that met your dietary requirements as happened in our group a few times, meant the staff could offer you an alternative. The food was not haute cuisine but was perfectly edible and in several cases delicious, particularly enjoyed pizza night , beautiful freshly made variety of pizzas and as many as you wanted. The soups were nice too and certainly not rehydrated. We never left the dining room hungry! The pool and outdoor seating was a nice place to relax on return from a hot days travelling, with the sun on the terrace until late afternoon. Staff were very friendly and helpful. As mentioned before it would be nice to have an area for socialising in the evening, our group tended to go out to the local bar as the weather was so nice, not sure we’d have gone in rain or cold. All in all a pleasant base for touring around with all basic needs met.

We stayed for a week on a dinner, B&B basis. The room was clean and modern with working facilities and quiet as we facing away from the lake. I heard that lake facing rooms could be noisy but, then again, guests at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo have to listen to the same traffic noise. The breakfast buffet did its job we don't travel a full English anyway. Dinner was again OK and reflects the star rating for the hotel. The staff were generally friendly and helpful . The centre of the nearby village with a couple of cafes, a restaurant, a mini supermarket and the nearest bus stop, is only about 300 yards away with a narrow pavement along the busy road. A quiet lakeside view is in the same direction down a paved alleyway. Tremezzo with more restaurants, cafes and the important ferry stop is about a mile in the other direction, mostly with a pavement but with a 300 yard stretch when you need to walk in the road and show no fear. Lenno, about a mile away the other side of the local village, is a quiet relaxing place to while away some time. Getting there is mostly off road following the Greenway with about a 300 yard stretch of road walking. Como is an easy hour's bus ride away. All in all, not a bad budget hotel and base for exploring the area but people with walking problems would be better off staying in nearby Tremezzo. I think the hotel is missing a trick by not converting part of their conservatory into a seating area for guests to enjoy pre or after dinner drinks. There is outside seating at the front, which suffers from overlooking the busy road. The pool and sunbeds are better for relaxing outside.

This is the worst Hotel (hostel) that I ever stayed in and still can't believe that that I paid to stay here. Communal dining tables, 8pm dining and the worst most appalling food that I ever know to be served in a hotel. We did request on several occasions our own table but the hotel management simply said ''No'' I don't believe that any of the food was fresh, all canned or packet. Main course consisted two tin slices of meat or fish and one greasy overcooked veg, normally out of a tin. Dessert as outlined in previous reviews doesn't deserve comment. Sad looking soup with ''One'' slice of bread per person at the table. The staff present the guest each evening with a half page of an A4 sheet of paper as the menu and you must initial the menu to select what you want to eat the follow evening. Each person at the table is serviced with a plate which already has the two food items on it arranged in the kitchen. No allowance made for people leaving on coach trip or departing for the airport as breakfast will not be served before 7.15am and it is ''Self Service'' with a very limited range of food. A plastic bag with food in it is presented to each person for early morning travel to the airport. Most of the staff are friendly but one or two of them have a poor attuite to their guest. No facilities (kettle/cups/coffee/glasses ) in the bedrooms which are tiny with two single beds pushed together. Air conditioning which only works sometime and a building project going on next door. The view from the very small balcony is beautiful but the two chairs on the balcony are so worn and frayed that it's difficult to use them. There are no facilities for relaxing after the very poor meal and the bar opens up into the dining room which is closed after the ''Even Meal'' The road is to dangerous to walk on in the evening to go to another restaurant or hotel. Had I not been on a packet holiday I've left after the second day. Unfortunately the worst of all is that the front doors of the Hotel (Hostel) are chained and locked over night and only opened when staff come on to open the dining room for breakfast at 7.15am. Should there be a fire during the night there is no way out. As this is illegal in Ireland I presume that it's also illegal in Italy. See the photo attached. As most of these comments have been made in previous post and for previous years I can't understand why ''Travel Agents'' are still using this hotel.

Stayed in this hotel in late August 23 as part of a tour group. Our room ,206,was large, cleaned daily and comfortable with good lake views.( no facility to make tea or coffee). 2 of our tours began at 7;45 am and as the breakfasts did not start until 7;15 it was a mad dash!! Breakfast was machine juice, machine coffee,a choice from 2 cereals ,bacon/egg or a continental array. Dinner served at 8pm was only average and no coffee was available after 9pm, Staff were available when required, There was nothing for the teetotaller to do after 9pm other than walk a dangerous busy road to a local cafe. The best aspects of this hotel are its proximity to the lake, ferries and buses and to the scenic village Lenno.
