I had the worst experience one could imagine. I spent over 7 years stationed in Germany so I try to be the most understanding American when visiting tourist locations. I make an honest attempt to speak the local language, use the local currency, and leave my money in the local economy. I do not walk around haggle locals or assuming everyone should know English. My experience with Dreams tulum was terrible from beginning to end.
1. My room reservation was incorrect at check in. I spent over 3 hours trying to get checked in.
2. The resort did not have any welcome gifts or welcome banners to decorate my room, as advertised in their Dream big package I purchased.
3. I booked the preferred deluxe king swim out suite and on the second night of my stay a man in the suite above urinated in my pool. See video attached
4. The hotel did NOTHING to accommodate, not even move my room. No credit. NOTHING.
5. When calling for a car to take my physically disabled girlfriend to the main restaurants I was directed to wait outside for the car to pull up, they refused to come and knock, or at the least honk.
6. I booked a private dinner on the beach for my girlfriend and I, which included a lamb and shrimp dinner. On arrival I was told we would be seated inside one of the regular restaurants and be served beef instead. I was repeatedly passed over for white guests when being served at the bar. I waited patiently, addressed them in Spanish, and tipped appropriately.
Throughout the duration of my stay I felt like I was inconveniencing the staff. I spent thousands of dollars to celebrate my significant other and it was a miserable trip. I could go on for days. DO NOT STAY AT DREAMS TULUM!

Our stay at the resort was a 3.5/5. I think the advantage of the all inclusive was only worth it if you had a VIP room. Having the swim up room was nice to have some time separate from the busy pools. I think the biggest draw back that kept the resort from being a 5 was the food, it was really basic. The quality was holiday inn breakfast, lunch and dinner. The drinks were at least good, much better at the VIP bars for sure. The beach location and isolation from the rest of the Tulum ***** was really nice, we really enjoyed the beach area. It was a bit of a difference from the Tulum nightlife so get ready to pay a considerable amount for a taxi there from the resort.

I’ll start by giving my demographics. I’m 59 years old, live in Minnesota and I’m adventuresome and flexible.
My husband and I spent 6 nights at Dreams Tulum.
PROS:
• Gorgeous grounds and beautiful beach
• “Preferred Club” beach area and the cabanas
• Very accommodating and friendly staff
• Close to downtown Tulum
CONS:
• Not the dining options advertised. Some restaurants are closed some days.
• Hyatt and the Marriott empire. Provides local jobs but the real money goes back to the US
• Hyatt Vacation Club and the sales meeting. Very disappointing program and lack of transparency about the fine print. After looking online, we found most people were very unhappy after joining this program.
• Too expensive overall in my opinion. We got lucky with an upgrade to the “Preferred Club” just before our trip but without it, rooms are a long way from the beach and you don’t get access to the “Preferred Club” beach area which have the cabanas that I love.
HELPFUL TIPS:
• It’s best to try and speak at least some spanish. The staff is not always bilingual (although they will try to help to the best of their abilities.
• The food is not the same as an all-inclusive resort in the USA. I feel Mexico has healthier food overall but if you go and expect comfort foods from the US, you might be disappointed. The food is obviously locally sourced and keeping an open mind is helpful.

The staff and the property overall is really good but there were some details that still makes it not achieve the level they should be. For instance, at check-in, they emphazised the check-out hours but they didn't have our room ready until 2 and a half hours later. An I had to practically beg to have at least a place to change into our beach wear, as they didn't even offered a temporary room or anything. Of course at check out, we decided to stay a bit longer, as our transportation pick up was at 3 pm but the keys were deactivated at 12 pm, check out time. I had to go back to reception and then explain everything to have my stay extended "as a courtesy" until 3 pm and have keys reactivated, which took almost 20 minutes as their process is extremely bureocratic. I even had to sign a letter that I was receivinge this extension. So all in all, I think the should do better if they want to achieve a real five star resort level.

Noisy at night with people going back to their rooms at 2 and 3AM. Dining was not open for advertised times. Could not order coffee before 7AM and room service options were limited.

The service at the preferred bar and the poolside/ocean concierge were excellent. All of the staff were attentive and very friendly. The resort was very clean and well maintained and the food at the buffet each morning offered delicious and healthy options. The spa services are excellent. Unfortunately the preferred ocean view suites that are located near the pool are very noisy with music playing until 3:30 am almost every night which was unexpected given the price of the room. Additionally, negotiating the promised “cash discount” for attending the presentation is not a transparent process and wound up being more of a headache. Also, I was told on checkout that my bill would be emailed to me and it is 3 days later, 3 emails and 1 phone call and still no bill and no response from the property. I tried calling to request my bill and was told to email the front desk, when I asked if we could arrange the copy while I was on the phone, they hung up. Not sure if I will return or recommend.
