Booked via the internet / email with very friendly staff - the manager I had been communicating with came to say hello when we arrived which was a nice touch. Two connecting grand suites with a roof terrace were very impressive - the room assistant and various other staff made a huge effort to welcome us. Pool is nice, restaurant a la carte was good with large portions and there were large numbers of monkeys to see at breakfast by the river, which kept us all entertained. It is apparently a favourite hotel for visiting cricket teams - including Australia U19s when we were there - and there is lots of interesting cricket memorabilia in reception.

After the last hotel this one was very welcoming. We both immediately loved the atmosphere and the setting. A small water way runs through the hotel grounds. A drink on the balcony overlooking the water was a perfect way to spend a relaxing hour being entertained by a small family of cheeky monkeys. We even saw a turtle in the water. The room was comfortable with a lovely water feature en route. We enjoyed the pool and pool area too. The usual buffet fare (of most of the Sri Lankan hotels we stayed at) was on offer for both evening meal and breakfast. Friendly staff and relaxing location recharged our batteries.

Serious Issue with the spa therapist which was also brought to the attention of the evening and day time manager. Did not hear of any follow up or what action would be taken. Dinner buffet selection was lacking compared to several other resorts/hotels visited during this long family trip. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Hotel is a bit tired but only semi descent hotel in area apparently? Have to remember where you are! Room was clean, etc. Pool area not great. Not fully paved/tiled, have to walk across stones in some areas to get to pool. Small area too! Happy for 1 night but wouldn’t want to stay longer!

We stayed one night for a safari in the Udawalawe National Park. The hotel is located closely to the Park entrance which is very convenient. The staff was very nice and the breakfast and dinner buffet offered a variety of good dishes. The rooms are nice, but the cleanliness of the bathroom could have been better. There were a lot of insects and mosquitoes in the room and unfortunately no mosquito net provided which is one aspect that could be improved. Overall, it is still a good hotel to stay for a safari in Udawalawe National Park.

Stayed here on a Secret Escapes trip for one night. Arrived just after 12:30 and the room was already ready. Room fairly large. Seating area outside and Bathroom was okay with shower and curtain. Good powerful shower and instant hot water. Bed was okay but very big but quite firm for me personally. Air con is an integrated into foyer. Little dated and very loud but cooled the room sufficiently and helped by the fan. WiFi in room non existent. Not even enough to load iMessage or texts. Eventually easured at like 32kbps. Lobby has much faster (48mpbs) Staff very helpful and friendly. Food was okay. Lots of choice but atmosphere a bit flat in the restaurant. Nice live guitarist playing music. Pool was good and not too chilly. Staff attentive and present all the time. Can have food and snacks by the pool. Overall a nice hotel. Not quite sure what makes it Grand and a Lodge but no complaints. N.b Well worth doing the Safari here too after the Elephant Sanctuary.

Stopped 2 nights here as part of an 8 night tour. We were here to go and see the elephant transit home, which was a very very short ride away. Nice grounds with a pool buffet dinner but probably wasn’t the most impressive during our stay…same for breakfast, but the breakfast was adequate. It could be the category room that we had, but it was a little bit tired but had everything we needed. Friendly attentive staff. We had a relaxing stay here.
