Top Pub

Accommodation is old and tired & a bit rough around the edges. Things like missing tv remote, faulty toilet cistern that continually ran. On the positives, despite being on New England Highway, if you shut ensuite window, noise wasn't too bad

My extended family booked a two night stay from Tuesday to Thursday to visit a relative in Uralla. My brother and sister were 'lucky' enough to get two rooms downstairs out the back of the pub and my husband and I had a twin room upstairs which was substantially smaller. We were surprised at being charged the same amount as the rooms downstairs especially since our room was lacking space and was extremely run down. Tiles were cracked and dangerous in the bathroom and you had to step over a raised tile section to get to the toilet. My husband and I worked out that you needed to lift the lid of the toilet cistern to relieve the pressure on the flush buttons to stop the water continually running. Like other reviews, the water took ages to heat up which wasn't welcoming on a cold morning. The old vanity was held up by one crooked leg, the TV was tiny compared to the larger wall TV downstairs and the laminate had peeled off the narrow bench top where tea and coffee supplies were lacking. I think we were 'lucky' enough to have a small rail to hang clothes (compared to downstairs) but no hangers were provided. It wasn't very clean and there was lots of dust on the skirting boards. If you like being woken up at 6:00am with other residents warming their cars up for 15mins or motor bikes revving then this is the place to stay. The positives were comfy beds both upstairs and downstairs and the food at the Top Pub was good but quite expensive for a pub. When I bought up my comparison cost issues with the lady who booked us in I was told we were 'lucky' to get the downstairs and upstairs rooms at $100 a night since prices were increasing. Well, that gave me a good laugh after a long drive from Sydney.
