I booked a stay and a table here for my husband’s birthday. The food was absolutely delicious. They even got us in fillet steak for our main as it’s my husbands favourite asking us if we’d like dauphinois to go with it! Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and clean and very quirky with the bathroom upstairs. We will be back for sure and couldn’t recommend this place enough. Thank you Michelle John and all your staff for making my husbands birthday so special.

A beautiful location, and proper ‘old world’ looking country inn, and warm welcome and a good breakfast - but what a disappointing room. Room 6 - much more tired looking than in the photos, and with an adjoining door to room 5 that seemed so thin that hat we heard every word spoken in there as if it had been open - and got to listen to our neighbour snore most of the night. But more disappointing was the really low level of cleanliness. Some surfaces didn’t look liked they’d been cleaned in quite some time. I just couldn’t stay there again!!

We booked and forgot it was Mother's Day, so it was busy buy the service provided by the 2 excellent front of house staff, was appreciated. We had been on 22/12/23 but seems I forgot to review but to recap we had Xmas Dinner and the service was excellent, the food was great. So, we went back and had Camembert to share, Roast Beef and Lamb Shank and all the trimmings and when I say all I mean all. Extra Cauliflower Cheese too. Lemon Meringue Pie and Profiteroles for desert. The menu has loads to choose so will be back again. Word to the wise - don't eat for a few days before as the portions are large. Great Value for money and great to see the place busy. Michael and Tracy

This was the second time we have stayed here and were in the same room we'd had previously. As like last time, we had an amazing stay. We love the room which is set out over two floors and perfect for us. The Inn is in a beautiful area which is peaceful and quiet. We actually stayed here as we were off to Royal Ascot, which was just over an hour away. The breakfast choice was fantastic and of a super quality. The hosts were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. We'll definitely be staying again whenever we're going racing and where it's about an hour away. Lovely, lovely place.

We sayed for one night while visiting the nearby White Horse Hill, Uffington Castle and Waylands Smithy. On arrival there was plenty of space in the adjacent car park. We were met at the bar by a friendly member of staff who gave us the key and directed us to a room in the building next to the pub. The room was basic, but clean and had tea/coffee making facilities and a tv. We were in room 6 which seems to have accommodation on the floor above. There's not much sound proofing but we weren't disturbed by noise. However, for some reason the outside lights (one of which is right above the entrance) and I'm guessing is on a shared circuit with other residents came on a few times in the night and was a bit intrusive. We ate an evening meal (vegan burger) which was very tasty and staff were happy to change the vegan cheese for regular cheese. However the other vegetarian item on the menu was off and the food took a good while to turn up. Another customer was heard complaining that he'd waited an hour and a half. The bar has a good range of beers and there is outdoor seating at the front and rear of the pub. Breakfast was fine and they were happy to provide a vegetarian version of the full english.

I really wouldn’t recommend booking accommodation at this pub. I booked a room for the 10th June on the 15th May. To discover a day before when I called that the pub had a private function on the 10th and wouldn’t be serving food or operating normally. I was told there were other establishments nearby which I could drive to, to eat but not in Woolstone. What’s really annoyed me is that there was no notification of a private event or the fact that the pub was not serving food. This has really screwed up my plans for the weekend as we had planned to visit a number of nearby archaeological sites. It also annoyed me that the manager said she sent out an email and continued to argue with me when I said that I received no email from them. In fact I thought she was rude. Good job though that I called or otherwise we would have discovered this tomorrow afternoon.

This is a quintessential English village pub. The main building is very old and atmospheric - low ceilings, exposed beams etc. The photos of the exterior give a hint of the charm of the lead light bay window and beautiful front garden with seating ideal for the long Summer twilight or a bright sunny day. Further seating is inside or in the back courtyard. The bar has a good range of drinks. We had pizza from the wood fired oven in the courtyard. Delicious. Morning breakfast was outstanding. Our accommodation was in a much more modern building next door. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, good lighting. The bathroom was spacious and well appointed. The pub has a very large car park across the road for customers. The staff were very helpful and lovely. The village itself is small, but immaculate. Beautiful homes and gardens.

We went to this pub late on Saturday afternoon and were greeted by a bar full of dirty glasses, a disinfectant bottle and a dirty cloth. Not a great first impression, We did wonder if the pub was about to close. Tables were still to be cleared and wiped and the whole bar area was just extremely messy. We went into the garden but again there were numerous tables ladened with dirty plates and glasses and almost everywhere tables had filthy ashtrays. To add to our misery the smoke from the pizza oven was blowing across the garden which made it very unpleasant. We therefore decided to go back into the pub where the bar still had not been touched. Someone was issuing instructions on when tables should be cleared and wiped, whilst sitting at the bar with a drink, could they not have wiped and cleared them? The two bar servers were busy on their phones and made no attempt to wash glasses or clear the chaos. We had a second drink, again having to ask for lemon in the gin but the barman almost put it in the pint!! Needless to say we didn't stay long and left. We won't be returning, such a shame as from the outside it looks a great country pub but clearly inside it is far from that. The previous owners were superb and would not have let the pub in the state we saw it when arriving. Maybe a change of manager again to bring it up to the standard you would expect.

Booked this place as advertised as dog friendly which it truly is. Stayed in room 5 which is a twin with ensuite + lounge. Room was clean and well presented, very large ensuite that is new and has an excellent shower. Breakfast is included and there is a good selection. The full English (which I had) has good quality ingredients and was well cooked, whilst my wife had an omelette which was packed with bacon and cheese and was light and fluffy, really excellent. Sunday night is pizza night and there is a wood fired pizza oven. Shaun the chef and co-owner produces fantastic pizzas that do not disappoint. Emma the other co-owner manages front of house and is friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed our stay and will look to return.
