I already didn't like that in the days prior to my arrival I kept getting message via unrelated WhatsApp business account located in India threatening me with possible cancellation if I didn't fill all my data in some sketchy platform related to Booking (when I reserved my night via Trip.com). The messages had my name and reservation details so that's either their way to save on costs or they sold my data. Regardless, I didn't fill my personal info, reported the accounts and my check-in in person took 1 minute without mention of this procedure. Now, the hostel is actually an entirely building which looks imposing from outside, a few minutes from Mestre train station. The dorm room was spacious and clean. 1 toilet and 2 separate showers and sinks inside. Make you own bed style, which is fine. Very thin blanket and I slept very cold despite setting up the heating to the max. Now, the main issue is not the facilities but service. In particular, whoever in reception that decided that allowing 4 guys who don't have any business staying at a hostel (mixed room as well). Now, Mestre is a rough place and it might be very cold outside but guests pay to feel safe. A hostel is not a viable alternative to social services or whatever these guys need. In their case, what they needed instead of a warm night of sleep was to chat, very loudly and call their families back home until 2am at least. I told them to please respect the space at 11pm already and was met with derision, so I felt unsafe as I've never felt unsafe at a hotel. In the morning I couldn't use the toilet because of the smell alone. It might not happen to you, but clearly the hostel is here to make money above anything else.
