Hotel Palazzo Martinelli Dolfin

The pros: the cleaning staff and staff communicating via message are responsive, friendly and helpful, the room was a good size. The cons: location; it says it’s 6 min walk to St. Marks but it’s 30, and it says 4 min walk to grand canal but it’s 13 (and I am young and in shape). They don’t give you the wifi code until your room is ready and they email you but if you don’t purchase an international data plan you’re screwed. My room was literally in the dining room and I got up before breakfast but could hear everything, partially because there are gaps in the door. If you’re a solo traveler and concerned for your safety that is alarming. Their “storage” for your luggage is an unlocked cabinet so you have to put your faith in humanity that people don’t steal it as there is no reception. The bathroom was so small anyone who was tall their knees would hit the wall. There’s no shelf in the bathroom to put your toiletries so you have to put them on the floor. They let you check in at 3 when most places allow at 2 and check out is at 10 when most places in Italy it is 11.

I would not suggest staying at this SMART property. Orbitz sold us a room that would not accommodate our family, even though we included it in our search criteria. The hotel wanted to immediately uncharge us and would not be flexible with customer service to cancel our reservation. This was definitely NOT ideal. Maybe if you are young and traveling through europe it would be a good fit.

Conveniently located near the Piazzale Roma. Hotel was clean and spacious. I slept on the futon which was acceptable for the one night we stayed. My parents thought the bed wasn't that comfortable, just ok. The pillows were thin and there were not enough extras. For the high price, I would have expected comfier beds and pillows. Our booking was a little last minute, so this was the lowest price in the area I could find that could accommodate 3 people and still looked decent. The AC had just been turned off for the season, so we opened the window to help with the stuffiness. The keypad locks sometimes took a couple of tries. Opted out of the unmanned luggage and paid for a locker near the Piazzale Roma. Smallest elevator I have ever seen - 3 people with carry-on luggage fit snugly. Could hear footsteps above our room late at night. Very high ceilings made the room feel bigger. Big bathroom with glass shower but no place to set down soaps except the floor.

The hotel was on a quiet canal with what felt like a unique hidden door. The room was very large and comfortable. Communication in English via What’s App was very timely and helpful. It was nice to be able to drop our luggage at 7 am and spend the day in Venice before check in

It was perfect, the room was super clean , staff were very friendly and nice , nice area close to everything, super close to parking . Overall very great place to stay

This place worked really well for our family of five Visiting VENICE and staying 4 nights at the hotel Elegant building with period features, very large room on top floor, cleaned everyday and nicely decorated. Comfy beds, very hot shower, good heating. Extra duvets available for all of us. Breakfast offered enough choice but short on fresh fruit . There was a fruit salade but personally prefer to be able to choose the fruit I like Charming hostess who prepared nice capuchinos and hot chocolate. The codes system was fine once you get the hang of it. Takes a few Times. The Unmanned luggage storage also fine. Location is very convenient: 3-4 minutes away from Piazzale Rome and connect to vaporettos to grand canal, murano, bus airport etc. And 15-20 minutes on foot to most interesting places. San Marco a bit longer. We enjoyed all the walks from and to the hotel and discovered plenty of charming squares and bridges. Interesting option to Walk to Nearby Santa Marta to take a vaporetto and reach San Marco from the sea! Spectacular! We had little luggage but there is a lift. Charming terrace which we did not use as it was too cold in early January. To improve: pillows were not comfortable (hard and small), no shelf to leave personal stuff near the sink in the bathroom, and in the shower.No coffee bags and milk units on the shared room where a kettle is at guests disposal. We could only find a few teabags in those 5 days. We certainly recommend this place, in particular for families.

I should have read the one-star reviews before booking. DO NOT STAY HERE. While a beautiful hotel inside, the hotel does not provide the amenities promised and makes it almost impossible to receive resolution to an issue. There is no one available to help you in person during your stay. The hotel has an air conditioner but fully turns off their air conditioning system throughout the hotel and does not provide any other method for air circulation. When I asked for help, a fan, anything, the hotel responds via WhatsApp - 6 hours later - and says "everything is working". The hotel's air conditioner might "WORK" but it is not "ON", and it cannot be used. I don't care if it works as a system. If it doesn't work for me - the guest, then it doesn't matter. False advertising. Their solution - They say "open a window". In October 2022 - it's still 65-70 degrees at night, the wind speeds are low, and mosquitoes ate me alive. I didn't sleep the entire time I was there, effectively ruining my trip to Venice. Also - waste of money. I reserved a junior suite with a balcony. The balcony is too small for anything other than standing. Cannot fit chairs. Balcony overlooks abandoned courtyard fully in disrepair. Difficult to locate on Google Maps. Got lost trying to find the hotel as the location provided is of a parking garage - on the other side of a canal. You need to be very aware of your surroundings and potential ways throughout the maze of Venice to get actually find the hotel.

My wife and I spent a night before returning to the US and we were extremely pleased. My only issue was that they had already switched the Air conditioning to heating since it was mid October and the room was a little warm. However after opening the windows for a while it was very comfortable. The room we got was HUGE with lots of room to move around especially packing for our return. Very close to Piazzale Roma and about a 7 minute walk to the train station. Not the most glamorous location but very safe. Killer wifi speed and extremely quiet. Would definitely stay there again.

Like other reviews, the rooms and bathrooms are lovely, the room itself was massive, pillows were very hard but bed was comfy. You can drop off your bags before check-in but its a closet and not secure. I was not advised that there is no service after 5pm from' reception so couldn't iron my evening clothes. All comms are via text and codes and on WhatsApp. No glasses or cups in the rooms - anything extra you need you have to order it between 9-5pm. Good area and quiet - easy walk to to the train and attractions. I was in a simpler ensuite room, no canopy bed, but had a daybed and desk.
