We are traveling Europe for the Summer, usually staying at properties like the Four Seasons. This property has the same pricing as the FS, but the quality is much less. This was the most awkward stay I’ve ever had, anywhere. It feels empty, desolate and downright odd. We left early due to the fact that it was so strange being there. It’s as if you’re staying in a museum, which some people may love but old photographs staring at you and artwork made from hair gives it an air of creepy. The walls are thin and dogs staying in the room next door barked. As I mentioned previously, it’s very expensive, but not great. No lunch or dinner on premises so you have to drive 20 minutes. We’d booked the chef’s table but it was cancelled due to lack of guests. It’s pretty but needs a good cleaning and update as it doesn’t feel clean and comfortable, just old. The staff was kind and helpful when we departed early. Breakfast was most awkward- silent, a giant table where none of the guests talked to one another but instead had laptops out and did voice memos into their phones- in the end we laughed, packed up our things and were grateful to depart early. The website is stellar and looks great but the property does not match up. If you can drive in and do Mont St. Michel as a day trip then drive on to another town like Bayeux and stay there, that’s a better way of doing it than staying nearby. Good luck!

We stayed a couple of days at the chateau and it was definitely an amazing experience. The chateau and its gardens are really beautiful, the interior of the chateau is just perfect and the personnel is absolutely great. Also a great location to visit Mt Saint Michel, Saint Malo, Dinard, Dinan, etc. A special thanks to Erika and her family for their welcome. Merci beaucoup!!!

As someone who was about to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, we wanted to travel somewhere special. But, where to go? We looked back at the nearly 40 countries we have traveled and recounted some of the amazing places we have visited. It did not take long, however, to make up our minds where we should return. Travelers always have favorites and France has been that place for us, specifically Normandy and one place in particular, Chateau de Bouceel. This was our 4th visit. It is still family owned and managed, but the next generation has taken over the day to day operations. You always worry about the next generation, just like I’m certain our parents did. Well, worry no more. Erika and Ian have done an amazing job of maintaining this special place, while adding modern touches. The Chateau is 18th century so, by definition, you step back in time. It is a place that is so unique, welcoming, and relaxing. The surrounding grounds are not royal, but instead magnificent in their simple beauty. You can imagine it being the same way centuries ago. While Chateau de Bouceel is itself a unique time capsule, it has all the modern conveniences you will need, including the thing that we love to hate: excellent wifi. Scan the QR code and the Chateau app pops up, which links to WhatsApp. Once there, you are connected to the magic genie on the other end…which is, of course, Erika, who is a walking encyclopedia of information and a most helpful person. All the while, the impressive Chateau overwhelms modern technology. The main dining room is the center of conversations with other guests and, if you are lucky, Regis de Roquefeuil (the family Patriarch) will provide you with knowledge of the Chateau, historical events that seem to swirl around it, and wisdom which brings context to the present day. You are in the French countryside, but not far at all from seaside towns like Granville, Saint Malo, or the Normandy beaches. Since our last visit, the beautiful grand salon has been opened to guests where you can relax or enjoy a light menu of “dishes in jars.” What a great idea for those not wishing to travel to one of the nearby towns for dinner. There is also a well-chosen selection of wines and Champagne. You meet people along the journey of your travels and they become friends even though you don’t converse with them very often. It is here that we found that connection. Our main reason for visiting this time was to reconnect with Regis and Nicole, who we first met 13 years ago. For us it was like spending time with family that we love, and we cherish those new memories. Let there be no doubt, however, that the future of the Chateau is in the best of hands with Erika, Ian, and their wonderful staff, including Melanie, who made the most perfect eggs every morning. For those with a bucket list which includes staying at a gorgeous 18th century chateau, with a storied history, and a family who can bring it to life, then look n

What a delightful visit. We stayed in the Boulanger house which was fun. Had the place to ourselves so it was quiet and quaint. There is a washer with a drying clothes rack, a nice treat. We went to nearby Dinard and brought some oysters and wine back to the room. There are silke white chickens and two donkeys on the grounds. There are also beautiful antique portraits lining the walls. Pay attention to the items on the check in desk from WW2, great story about the bicycle light containing secret notes for the underground. There is also a must have illustrated book about the war that is for sale there, “Chronique Ilustree”by Arnaud de Roquefeuil. The grounds are stunning and the staff so friendly. I actually had tears in my eyes when we departed.

The chateau was beautiful and the welcome was unsurpassed. We received a free upgrade and were given a tour. The animals on the property were delightful. Honour bar was very handy. Only disappointment was the private dinner in the farmhouse was cancelled.

The chateau was beautiful and a perfect getaway after a long Day of travel from the states. We enjoyed mont saint michel, d day beaches and all of the comforts of the chateau. Erika and her family are gracious hosts and we can’t wait to return! Our room was spacious and comfortable and included all of the amenities one would expect at a 5 star hotel.

(1) Beautiful and well-kept country hotel. Vintage furniture which is working well (2) Still run and owned by a hospitable family. Service is excellent with a personal touch. (3) Nice grounds with a dog, cat, geese, chickens and donkeys. (4) Tasty home-cooked dinner in an outhouse
