The New Post Office

Very clean inside but trash on the patio. Beds were jammed into a room where you must climb in and out over the foot of the bed since there’s no room to each side. Sofa couch cushions kept sliding off but it was clean inside. Not bad, just not great. It is quiet there though. You have to check in and out around the corner.

Having a free parking lot so centrally located was the only positive thing about the accommodation. The interior designer must have had a very bad day. The furnishings are all black, the walls and even the ceiling are painted a muddy color. Everything seemed somehow gloomy, empty and impersonal. There are no pictures on the walls, just rules of conduct. You don't feel welcome. At one a.m. the night before we left, I received a message that we had to separate the garbage and a description of the location of the garbage cans. This had never been mentioned before and there was only one garbage can under the sink in the kitchen. How are you supposed to separate the garbage?

It’s a large room, for it to be on such a tiny island. The room has all the facilities you’d want including oven and fridge. There is no microwave included. Parking is free. This is basically an extension of the main Vestmannaeyjar hotel. Breakfast was included but expensive, we just got our bread and essentials from the close by Kronan. It is centrally located in the main town - walking distance to many trails and restaurants. We enjoyed a relatively cheap, but delicious meal at Ranya restaurant which was awesome Kurdish food. A few things - one of the three rooms we booked had a broken shower faucet and broken blinds. It wasn’t a huge issue for us, as we had 2 other fully functional washrooms. All standard rooms come with one queen bed, but the 2nd bed is a sofa-bed. This was creaky, and quite uncomfortable. Thankfully we were tired beyond belief, and slept like logs. Check out was at 11, but we requested a slightly later checkout at 12 which the hotel happily obliged. Finally, like all hotels in Iceland - this has no AC, and with the heat cranked up it gets hot in the night. So keep windows open, and dress lightly in the night as a recommendation from us!
