We spent two lovely nights in this quiet tropical location. It is super close to Volcanos National Park. We really enjoyed talking to Sarah each morning, while eating a healthy breakfast and listening to Hawaiian music, to start our day. She gave us great suggestions on what to see locally including the Nene ducks :) She knows the Big Island well and we stopped at several great places she mentioned even as we traveled away. The B&B and our room were just beautiful and squeaky clean. We also met Rhonda, who is very sweet and informative too. We look forward to coming back in the future!

What a great experience! The lodge is in a quiet and private location, surrounded by beautiful forest. Morning breakfast included fresh fruits - Way better fruit than we can get on the East Coast of the mainland - And some more hearty fare. Sarah was very friendly and helpful and offered tips on places to see and eat. We stayed in the loft, and it is cozy and very private. This is a GREAT place to stay and explore. It's just a few minutes to the main entrance to Volcanoes National Park, and an easy drive down to the Kahuku Unit of the Volcanoes National Park, as well as a pretty easy drive back towards Hilo. Would definitely stay again!

Sarah was so nice and accommodating, and gave great suggestions for the area. Super comfortable room. We had the loft and it was perfect for my husband and me. The fresh papaya every morning was a highlight. We loved staying in a home in a neighborhood instead of a touristy hotel complex. It was the perfect home base for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes NP!

Lava Pond Lodge ended up being my favorite accommodations on my trip (I also stayed in 3 hotels). Everything was so clean, comfortable, and spacious. I read about mold problems at other places in Volcano, but there was zero mold at Lava Pond Lodge (I'm very allergic). The breakfasts were fantastic! Every day we had a papaya boat plus something cooked, like pancakes, egg McMuffins, or quiche. I really enjoyed eating breakfast with the hostess and other residents and getting travel tips from them. I also enjoyed being surrounded by the rainforest. When you're there, be sure to look up at the night sky -- you'll be shocked by how many stars there are! My experience was so positive that I'm going to try to stay in B&Bs rather than hotels in the future!

A phenomenal B&B in the heart of a tropical rainforest and convenient location to the National Park, Volcano Winery, and high-quality restaurants! I stayed in the Royal Orchid room over the Memorial Day holiday. I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay! Rebecca (the property owners' sister/sister-in-law) was a fantastic hostess who provided a custom breakfast experience, I loved their papaya-pineapple-banana boats!. I loved the hot tub, especially after the 2 days of hiking in the Volcanoes National Park. The nights were cool, so the fireplace came in handy. They use rainwater, so if environmental responsibility is important to you, then that's a bonus for this place. One day I drove around almost the entire island. I saw a sea turtle at the black sand beach. I loved hearing the frogs at night. If you're coming to the big island, THIS is the place to stay!

We love beautiful surroundings and Lava Pond Lodge has them inside and out. On gorgeous property, with soaring living room windows looking out onto jungle beyond, every detail seems to have been considered: Hawaiian music at breakfast while you munch on fruits and pastries from the local farmer's market, lit walkways at night, electric towel dryers, on and on. The owner, Sarah, is a delightful hostess, fun to talk to, and knowledgeable about the area. You really can't ask for more from any lodging, especially one as reasonably priced as this one.

Great place close to Volcano NP. Host is very thoughtful with breakfast, snacks and dry provided. We had the upper room, very quiet. It’s a nice B&B in the jungle with tree frogs serenading you to sleep. Good wifi and hot egg dish, fresh fruit for breakfast.

Our family of 9 rented the entire house (Lava Pond Lodge) for 4 nights so our stay did not utilize the property as a bed and breakfast. We did all of our own cooking. The way the house is set up though, it would work nicely if you were looking for a bed and breakfast. It was clean, very comfortable and nicely decorated. The grounds were also lovely offering privacy from neighbors. We chose this property as it is very close to the entrance to Volcanoes NP, as well as the town of Volcano, and were definitely pleased with our choice. Sarah was very responsive and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

I had stayed at the Lava Pond Lodge previously with my wife, but this was a quick trip over from Oahu to see the eruption at Kilauea Volcano. We enjoyed our first stay, but during my second stay, I got what most folks hope for at Bed and Breakfasts, a chance to visit a very pleasant place with very pleasant folks who treat you like family. While I spent lots of time in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, I also had plenty of time to interact with the owner, Sarah's Mom who has recently moved to the Islands. Enjoying a nice breakfast full of local fruit as well as pastries and a breakfast sandwich was enjoyable, but chatting with a lovely couple from New Hampshire was extraordinarily entertaining. The very short drive to the park made for a very relaxing stay, as did the fireplace in the room and the Hot Tub on a deck near the front door. The Rain Forest that surrounds the house is full of wonderful plants and animals, whose noises are both pleasant and surrounding. During my visit, the fumes from the Volcano were being blown west by the Trade Winds leaving no VOG or unpleasant scents in the air. Knowledgeable Volcano visitors will remember to dress warmly for the evenings, bring a flashlight (Which Sarah kindly provides) and also bring a folding chair as watching the eruption from dusk into total darkness is a fantastic experience, but one best done with the least amount of discomfort. Bring, too, a pair of binoculars, a camera and a knit hat. While breakfast is provided, a handful of local stores and restaurants can provide you with food and drinks so that you can stay in the park to see the eruption (The park is actually open 24 hours a day-Seven days a week). I found the nearby Thai Restaurant extremely convenient, fun and with superior food and excellent service. I can heartily recommend the Lava Pond Lodge as a quiet, comfortable, friendly and convenient place from which to enjoy The Big Island, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and without a doubt, the volcanic eruptions at Kilauea Volcano. The Lodge has televisions in the rooms, snacks for late night and a Great Room with books, a Large Screen Television, a DVD player and Internet connections. Its most important feature, however, is the feeling that you are going home.
