5th Street Ohana

The Sir Spencer suite was very nice. Pros: very quiet, roomy, huge kitchen, nice bathroom, friendly staff, easy parking, convenient to National Park and small village of Volcano cons: constant problems with cable TV, kitchen was huge but understocked other: no A/C (which we didn't need but good to know); this is a duplex but we never heard or saw the other occupants except their car coming/going I would stay here again if ever in the area.

We absolutely loved staying at this secluded and peaceful location. The tropical forest surrounding us with its melodies was quite enjoyable!! We spent our days exploring and our nights reminiscing on the large porch and enjoyed every minute of it. Loved the large home with a full kitchen and lots of space to unwind. The beds were very comfortable and the large parking area was nice. A little sad that there was no laundry machines available only because it rained often and everything was so damp in this location. My only wish was for lots more pathway lighting along the exterior of the property and along the driveway as it was pitch black at night without it. We arrived at night and has difficulty finding the property. There is a property with the same exact address with a different town name on the same street half a mile away which was extremely confusing. All in all we really enjoyed the home and loved the experience very much!! Closeness to Volcano National Park was the best and Hilo not far away for essentials!! Definitely recommend and would return!!

I loved my stay at 5th Street Ohana. I visited with my mother and we were both charmed by the location (nestled in a rain forest) and the accommodations. The space was incredibly clean, with good-sized bedrooms and beds, lovely linens, and a wonderful kitchen (we both like to cook). I highly recommend 5th Street Ohana for the comfort and proximity to the park. Take advantage of the spacious kitchen and come prepared with your own groceries to help you feel right at home.

Hey, do you overthink every decision? Have you been researching every available place on the big island only to not book anything and then repeat the process several times because you're looking for the place that's just right? Stop what you're doing and book this place. We stayed at three separate locations across Oahu and the big island and 5th street Ohana was my favorite place. The owner is top notch. We stayed here in the middle of October 2022. I would write more, but the longer you read this, the less time you are going to be booking this place.

Not a lot of good options in Volcano. Owner was responsive. There is another unit at the location. Luckily, they were polite and quiet. Gave us a good tip about where to view night lava. Secluded location. Spacious. Extremely close to national park. Kitchen and overall cleanliness a little disappointing. No dishwasher. Old fridge that wound up leaking and they were going to replace. Odd things like only 4 forks. Some dirty plates and pans. Wobbly chairs. Volcano not close to good grocery/restaurant options, so a little surprising at basic things needed to live there comfortably that were lacking. We stayed 3 nights, which felt like too many in hindsight.

This is a great location and easy to find in the daylight! Upon arrival there was confusion getting access to Sir Spencer as we looked on the property for the access information, as instructed. Instead the information was provided by text message! So make sure you have your data roaming turned on. Very comfortable furniture and beds. Lots of fluffy towels in the bathroom . Great kitchen but in need of extra cutlery and wine glasses. Also could use more dishcloths and dish towels for washing up the dishes. Overall, this was definitely a great place to stay and we had a most enjoyable time. Thank you for adding enjoyment to our Hawaii vacation. Note:Communication with owner/manager is excellent if you have a cell phone!

What a fantastic place to stay while we visited the Volcano National Park. The 5th Street Ohana is beautifully furnished with all the comforts of home. It is very spacious, quiet and clean. We felt very safe in this tropical rain forest setting. The lovely day lilies reminded me of my sweet mother-in-law who raised them on the side of her house. I had a question about how to work something and the owners were very quick to respond! Thank you very much for a wonderful holiday.

We said there this past weekend and it is an excellent location for the National Park and Black sand beach! We have 5 kids (13, 10, 5, 6, baby). It was clean. Free parking. Excellent location. A full set of towels for each person. Super easy checking in! Excellent customer service. Pack N Play was all set up. It’s about a 5 minute drive from the National Park. Lava viewing with recent eruption was unforgettable! From door to door- night viewing lava at Devastation Point (including hike with littles) was about 1.5 hours. Kids looooved it!! My only suggestion is to put more silverware in the drawer. There were only 4 forks. Would stay again! Also the Thai food place that is in volcano was the best Thai food I’ve ever had! Place a call ahead order to skip the long line. Kids gobbled it up. Also the grocery stores close very early. So you might want to think about that if you have little kids and are coming in after 6 or 7 PM.
