"This is the worst onsen hotel stay I have ever experienced in Japan. The hotel room was randomly assigned by the hotel, and we were given a room infested with mosquitoes and flies. I have caught seven mosquitoes during the stay (please see the included photo with mosquito stains which are caught using the information sheet provided by the hotel). I am not sure if this is related to the wrong practice of a previous guest by opening the window, or due to improper management by staff by airing the room by opening the windows due to cigarette smell (there is mild cigarette smell when checking in the room and all guests are non-smokers in the current stay). There is a card in the room saying that the hotel is located in a natural environment and it reminds guests to keep windows closed and it is expected that there will be bugs, however the room is not acceptable with so many insects and there are many other onsen hotels close to the natural environment which do not have the same problem. Placing a card in the room is ridiculous and doesn’t improve the room experience . We asked the receptionist in person if there is a potential room change, however we were declined of room change, just being given a simple word “Sorry” in English and we were given an electronic insect repellent machine and insect killer spray. To our understanding that night the hotel is not full and we doubt the reason for rejection of room change. No compensation was offered by the hotel. Although the room has a panoramic ocean view, the view actually partially overlooks another hotel which has closed down for more than 10 years which feels creepy when looking out at night. Given the price I have paid for the hotel stay, the service and facilities are totally not worth the price. Please do not be fooled by the marketing photos posted on this website as well as the official website, the actual facilities are really outdated and not that well maintained. Mosquito nets needs to be installed in this facility. I do not recommend anyone choosing this hotel."

"I saw their hotel was cheap and decided to give it a try. It was a lucky find! Although it's a bit older, it's very well maintained, with a traditional hot spring hotel feel. It's located near Kisui-ji Temple, so it's very convenient to visit if you're passing by. The hot spring itself is quite nice; there's an open-air bath, and both the warm and cold pools are good. The only downside is the limited opening hours, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It would be even better if it were open in the morning too."

"Dishonest Hotel Staff and Extremely Poor Service – Avoid at All Costs I had an unauthorized double booking through Agoda, which I only discovered upon check-in. The staff — Nguyen Van Tu and 大島 — initially promised to help cancel the duplicate booking, but once Agoda reached out, they completely denied responsibility and refused to cooperate. Their dishonesty and unprofessional behavior caused unnecessary stress and financial loss. The hotel management clearly lacks integrity, and the staff cannot be trusted. In addition, the common areas were dirty, the service was appalling, and the onsen was hugely overrated. This is one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. "I stayed in July 2026. Kayama Onsen is impressive enough just for the power of brown water and precipitates covering the bathtub, but as a hot spring lover, I would like you to pay attention to "hot spring use" and take a bath. The source is a high-strength hot spring called 25.2℃, dissolved substance 17, 120mg/kg, and is a very individual source, including free carbon dioxide 2, 631mg/kg and iron 50.0mg/kg.
