River's Edge Resort

In February 2024 I reserved a 3 bedroom cabin at Rivers Edge. The 3 bedroom cabin has 4 beds and 2 bathrooms. The 4 of us arrived and were giving a 2 bedroom cabin with 2 beds and one bathroom. We had just driven 5 hours to get there and had food that needed to be put in the refrigerator and we needed a kitchen to be able to cook. We had no viable option than to move in. The check in lady could not adjust our bill because she was not authorized to but assured me that it would be adjusted before we checked out, 4 days later. It was not adjusted but again I was told it would be. Well they finally adjusted our bill from $1494.12 to $1414.12. A whopping $80 to sleep on a couch and a rollaway that was closer to a hammock than a bed! I know the difference in price between a 3 bedroom and 2 bedroom at the time I booked was closer to $500. I had enjoyed my stay there in past years but this is inexcusable and I won't be back. My group had reserved 5 rooms and we won't be reserving 5 next year.

We will not be going back. The customer service was the worst we have experienced. They expect you to sign an online consent before you check in. For example you must take out your own garbage or you will be charged $50; they charged me $90 without my consent when I had mentioned my son might be joining my husband and me for the weekend. He did not attend due to illness but they refused to refund the $90. To make matters worse, they charged me the $90 but didn’t provide the linens for the extra bed i was “paying” for. There were over 20 dead bugs on the bathroom wall. We have stayed in other places at Winthrop with 1000% better customer service than River’s Edge. There are better places to stay in Winthrop.

Terrible customer service. Watch for the fine print. I called to cancel my reservation a few weeks in advance when my plans changed, only to discover that they had already processed my $500+ charge because my stay fell on a weekend that there was some event in the town and per their policy could not cancel less than 30 days prior. I went over my confirmation email with the person at the front desk. The section about the 30 days was buried down long after you would stop reading because the first thing it says is that stays of less than a week can be cancelled with no penalty one week in advance. I asked how I would have known there was an event in the town that weekend. They said they didn’t know, but that was the policy. I asked to speak with a manager and I was told no. $500 is a huge deal for me, so I asked if I could speak with anyone and I was told no again. Finally they agreed to leave my number but that the managers “weren’t there and she didn’t know when they would be back and did not know if they would call me.” Needless to say I have not heard from anyone.

We had reservations for July 23 and 24 but couldn't get there because of the Route 20 road closure due to the Easy Fire. After numerous attempts to reach them by phone and email, we didn't hear back from someone until 16 hours later. She indicated that there were alternative routes but wasn't familiar with them as she had only been there since January. The alternative routes added 5 hours each way to our two day trip to the park. We asked if they could rent the room out and reimburse us. She said "Why would I do that, it's already rented." Surely if we couldn't go east on Rt 20, there were people that couldn't go west and would have been pleased to see an availability. Being senior citizens driving into a smoke area would not have been wise. No compassion, no willingness to try to help. They got their money from us even in our absence and that surely was their main concern. Will not recommend to anyone because of their attitude. Definitely partial or full reimbursement should have been offered since getting there was out of our control.

Everything was amazing at this resort! Jodi, The Lady at the front desk was really helpful and sweet. She gave us a river front cabin with a personal hot tub on the deck which was so relaxing. Also had a stove in the living room and fully equipped kitchen. The place was super clean and quiet. The location is fantastic, walking distance from restaurants and bars. Just what we needed! What a fabulous find this was! I loved the individual (detached) little cabin, nice kitchen area/sitting room, lovely sun porch, the bed was comfortable, all very clean and comfortable and well appointed. Only issue was the bedroom is at the front (by the road/pavement) and the blinds don't fully cover the gaps to the sides so when sitting in bed you can see out behind the blind! Felt a little exposed... We had a great chat with the lovely (super friendly and super helpful) lady on reception and another guest (who had stayed there multiple times). Sorry I didn't get your name but you gave me a packet of spices for fruit and I wanted to say thank you! Highly recommend this resort (but make sure you wear a night shirt!)
