Just awful from start and couldn't wait to check out. On arrival the lady checking us in was rudely interrupted by a man who took over and assertively told us that they do not serve alcohol on the premises, rooms do not come with breakfast- have to pay extra for this and the front door is locked at 10am. We were given room 405 (fourth floor, no lift). On route to the room there were open dried paint pots along the landings? No obvious explaination -maybe expecting a leaky roof? We passed a lavatory on route to the room which had the door ajar and a most awful smell coming from within. The room - the standard of clean was clearly very low. The room was very dusty, headboard, TV, ceiling beams, bedside lamps all had a covering of dust. None of the bed linen matched as was a mismatch of faded overwashed whites. The drawers to the desk had opened biscuits, obviously left from previous guests. There was no TV remote in the room so unable to turn on the TV. The bed had one foot/wheel missing which caused the bed to slant to one side. The windows were the original sash however were rotten and did not fully close - thankfully the weather was not cold else there would have been a draft. The furniture was all mismatched and damaged - edging broken off etc. The bathroom was again lacking in cleaning. The shower head did not appear to ever have been cleaned the sink was blocked. There was limited water pressure, leaving a trickle of water from the taps/shower. The water in the toilet then continued to 'run' for a good 10mins after flushing. The toilet seat was marked and stained. Unable to use the shelf in the bathroom was this had sunk causing anything to slide off the edge. Before going out for the evening I was going to use the toilets in the reception area, only to find a key-code lock fixed to the door and a sign stating for guests use only and the door firmly locked. (I didn't bother using these then as I wasn't using the smelly ones I passed earlier nor walking back up 4flights of stairs). On returning to the hotel at midnight (after the door was locked) I called the mobile number provided to contact the "security" to be let in. All four attempts to call the number were met with a message diverting me to voicemail...(three days later and the voice message I left had still not been returned). After simply ringing the doorbell I was let in. I was woken at 2am and 3.15am by the "locals" who spent a good 10mins shouting, fighting and smashing glass. I finally got 2.30hours uninterrupted sleep. When checking out (as soon as possible the next morning) and complaining about the room (my husband also added about the mattress being on the wrong months meaning the had not been changed/flipped - they were still on Jan-March) to be told thanks for letting us know and the mattresses being flipped "Is a man's job so the cleaning girls can't do that". No apology was offered in any way and she just wrote down our list. Madball88 has uploaded photos from
