Property Description
UNIQUE PRIVATE COTTAGE, offered by YORKTOWN COTTAGES.
Family-owned and operated.
Welcome to Yorktown Cottages, where you can enjoy the privacy of an entire cottage for your trip to Historic Yorktown, in walking distance of all Yorktown attractions, and free trolley pick up in front of the cottage (most of the year). You will find no other properties quite like Yorktown Cottages in the historic district. Unlike other options, Yorktown Cottages owners/managers are not required onsite or adjacent to the property, so it is truly a private rental experience.
LATEST UPGRADES: Enhanced Cable TV package and WiFi, air purifiers, lighting upgrades, contactless entry, new SHOWER (March 2023), kitchen appliances (Jan 2024), leather couch, QN plush mattress (memory foam/hybrid, 2025).
This cottage uniquely offers much privacy for this destination, but the owners are nearby should you need them during your stay. There are no shared spaces with other travelers. Yorktown Cottages are the last "tourist homes" to be approved in Yorktown to allow operation without the owners co-located onsite during your stay, thus we offer a unique private home experience, close to everything.
With 2000 sq ft of private rental space, this "cottage" is a wonderful value and will exceed your lodging expectations.
This cottage offers 2 BR, 2BA, a full kitchen, dining area / den, great room with fireplace, and laundry room with washer & dryer. Linens are provided, and there is ample parking. The French doors in the great room open to your own private garden.
Please come and experience Yorktown by immersing yourself in the heart of the Historic Village.
NEARBY ATTRACTIONS:
The cottage is surrounded by U.S. National Park Service land, including the Yorktown Battlefields where George Washington secured America’s independence in 1781.
This lovely immaculate cottage is a short 1-block walk to Main Street, and a 2-block walk to the Yorktown Beach and all Historic Yorktown waterfront attractions.
Dine at the local restaurants and pubs, shop on the boardwalk, visit the museums, grab an ice cream cone, and stroll through history and its 18th century architecture.
Take a stroll to Riverwalk Landing or to the sandy beach at the edge of the York River and the Chesapeake Bay. You can even take a tall ship sailing cruise, bike miles of scenic historic trails or the Colonial Parkway, or hike or fly a kite on the battlefields. The Riverwalk area has many seasonal attractions that bring people to the waterfront every weekend. There is music, and oftentimes wineries / breweries at the events, plus a fresh farmers market on Saturdays. This location is also a stop for the Yorktown Trolley that will take you to both the Victory Center and Visitor Center, and other Village locations. (Check the Visit Yorktown website trolley schedule.)
COLONIAL PARKWAY AND HISTORIC TRIANGLE:
The Colonial Parkway that connects the Historic Triangle (Williamsburg-Jamestown-Yorktown) is accessible less than ¼ mile from the cottage. As you venture out into the Historic Triangle, return home along the scenic riverfront Colonial Parkway, and relax in this comfortable and unique cottage.

COTTAGE HISTORY:
The cottage is a special place to be. Not only is it perfectly located, it is a true landmark in local history, and a lovely, quaint place to spend your vacation. Formerly the home, studio, and gallery of Nancy Thomas, renowned contemporary folk artist; this is where Nancy Thomas worked and lived for 32 years. We are honored to have the great fortune of owning this piece of Yorktown ‘contemporary history’. Nancy’s work is in the homes of thousands of collectors and often seen in magazines, decorator books, films, on Broadway and on television, as well as at Colonial Williamsburg, The Museum of American Folk Art, and the White House.

We found this cottage to be exactly as described and pictured. We loved being in the historic district of Yorktown. The cottage is charming and hosts were friendly and responsive through the VRBO chat.

Cozy, beautiful, perfect!
The Yorktown Cottage at 301 Ballard Street was so perfectly decorated, had everything we needed for making home cooked meals, and resting comfortably after hours touring Yorktown’s museums or driving to Virginia Beach where we played in the ocean with fighter jets flying over! Jim and Christi were so kind and considerate! They left healthy snacks to welcome us and the place was spotless! We enjoyed reading several of their children’s books and the sweet garden was ideal for catching (and releasing) fireflies!

Home away from home
We have stayed here many times, so it has become a home away from home. We have family in the area, and love staying here! The location in historic Yorktown is perfect. We can walk to the shops and restaurants, and the battle fields. We love going to Mobjack Coffee Roasters. The cottage is always clean, and the owners are very responsive to any questions.

Beautiful property and great location
From ease of check-in to the amenities at this cottage everything was spot-on for our perfect mini get-away to Yorktown! And the trolley service just outside our door was super convenient to downtown for the beach, shopping, museums, walking trails, etc. A

Long weekend
This was a charming cottage in a wonderful location, stocked with everything we needed for a long weekend with friends. It was clean, the family room bright and comfortable and we had many book and game choices. The little patio & garden off the family room were perfect for sipping morning coffee. Even though I give it 5 stars, there are two things that would’ve made the stay a little more comfortable. 1) the downstairs bedroom has no air flow with the doors closed so at night the room got really warm/stuffy. A room fan would’ve been nice to keep the air circulating. 2) the twin beds in the downstairs bedroom creak like crazy. Every time one of us moved in the bed, the other noticed. On the positive side , the room was spacious and the mattresses were very comfortable. . We would definitely stay here again and will recommend this cottage to friends visiting the area. Thank y’all so much for sharing your place with us!

Great cottage walkable to Yorktown sights
Stayed here with my mother, husband and our 2 kids ages 8 and 12. We enjoyed walking down to the waterfront and the Yorktown battlefield National Park. The great room is comfortable and well stocked with games. There are only 2 bedrooms, so it is a bit tight with 3 adults and 2 kids, but one kid took the couch which worked fine. We were not interested in cooking, but it had a small functional kitchen for anyone who is.
