I visited Yufuin on a 2-day, 1-night hot spring trip! I chose to walk from the station to see the sights, but the road there was actually rough and difficult. It's quite uphill, so it's hard to go by carrier, but since it's so high up on foot, the view is really the best. You can use the minibar for alcohol or water... but vending machines and convenience stores are a bit expensive, so I recommend purchasing them in advance!
