Zhongshan, known as Xiangshan in ancient times, is located in the southern part of the Pearl River Delta. It borders Guangzhou in the north and is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau in the south. It is the hometown of Sun Yat-sen, China's great revolutionary pioneer, as well as the hometown of many overseas Chinese. Many attractions within Zhongshan commemorate Sun Yat-sen, for example, the Memorial Museum of Sun Yat-sen's former residence located in South Tsui Heng Village. There are also ancient buildings such as those on Sun Wen Lao Street and in Xiaolan Town, which have both cultural and artistic value.
The best seasons to visit Zhongshan are the spring (from March to mid-May) and autumn (from late September to early December). In the summer (from late May to mid-September), the temperature frequently reaches as high as 31°C. There is plenty of rainfall during this time, so it’s a good idea to bring an umbrella. During the winter (from mid-December to late February), the temperature is known to drop quite low, so coats and other outwear are necessary.
There are two railway stations in Zhongshan - Zhongshan Station and Zhongshan North Station. At present, only the Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity railway passes through Zhongshan and stops at the stations between Guangzhou South Railway Station and Zhuhai North Station. The trip takes about thirty minutes. Many hotels in Zhongshan are located within close proximity to the train stations.
