Introduction
Some information may have been translated by Google Translate

Wuxi, this ancient and beautiful city, becomes a sea of cherry blossoms every spring.

Yuantouzhu is particularly famous. The cherry blossoms on the island are like clouds and fog, blooming along the shore of Taihu Lake. The breeze blows and the petals fall like snow, which is extremely romantic. Beside Changchun Bridge, the pink and white cherry blossoms, the ancient bridge body and the shimmering lake water complement each other, forming a beautiful picture, attracting countless tourists to stop and take pictures. Liyuan cleverly integrates the elegance of gardens. The winding corridors are dotted with double cherry blossoms and mountain cherry blossoms. The eaves are flying with flowers and koi chasing petals, showing the oriental Zen. Changguangxi Wetland is known for its wildness. Cherry blossoms are on both sides of the bank, accompanied by swaying reeds, and occasionally water birds fly by, adding agility and vitality.

In March, the sea of flowers at Wuxi's Turtle Head Isle becomes a hidden gem for night cherry blossom viewing

In March, the sea of flowers at Wuxi's Turtle Head Isle becomes a hidden gem for night cherry blossom viewing

Every peak bloom season, Turtle Head Isle in Wuxi puts on a night light show, and as the ancients said, fearing that the flowers might sleep too deep into the night, Wuxi decides to keep all the cherry blossoms awake and lively. The evening tickets for Turtle Head Isle are slightly cheaper, but that doesn't compensate for the traffic jams and the overwhelming crowds. To view the night cherry blossoms and avoid the crowds, timing is crucial—don't go too early! Don't go too early! Don't go too early! Because from dusk till around seven or eight o'clock, when it's most crowded, the afternoon visitors want to make the most of their tickets by staying for the night show before leaving, while those who come to see the night cherry blossoms are just entering. So, don't go too early. Going around eight or nine o'clock, right before ticket sales stop, is fine. Last year, I chatted with the staff of the scenic area, and they said that during the peak bloom, the night cherry blossoms are not closed off because the area is too large to clear out, and since the viewing time is short, the scenic area wants all visitors to leave satisfied. They ensure visitor safety by keeping the lights on all night and patrolling throughout. So, go later! Regarding transportation, Turtle Head Isle is under traffic control at night, with only the main entrance open. It's recommended to take the bus there, as it's too congested and there's no parking available. For the night tour route, you can take the scenic shuttle bus directly from the main entrance to the Cherry Blossom Valley parking spot. For the return trip, the shuttle bus is also recommended, as most people take it. If you're returning from the mountain road to the main entrance, you might not encounter many people. If you decide to walk back to the main entrance, it's suggested to follow the scenic shuttle bus route along Cao Bay and the Ten Li Fragrant Embankment. There are two directions to choose from when you get off the bus: one is towards Changchun Bridge, and the other is Cherry Blossom Valley. Personally, I think the area around Changchun Bridge, with its many water surfaces, offers more beautiful night views, especially the bridge itself and the ancient buildings by the water—it's just so atmospheric. The area near the Cherry Blossom Valley's Viewing Pavilion also has water, and finding a good spot opposite the pavilion for the light show is great. Additionally, it's important to note that the light colors are constantly changing. I personally feel that some of the colder tones make the cherry blossoms look too desolate, so pay attention to the alternating light colors when taking photos!

Cherry Blossom Viewing at Yuantouzhu

Cherry Blossom Viewing at Yuantouzhu

It's cherry blossom season again in March. This spring has been colder than usual, so the cherry blossom season has been delayed by about ten days. Taking advantage of a beautiful, sunny weekend, our family went to Yuantouzhu to see the first cherry blossoms in bloom. Under the warm spring sun, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Although only the early-blooming cherry blossoms are currently showing their fragrance on the branches, there is still the beauty of falling petals. However, Yuantouzhu was extremely crowded on the weekend, with visitors packed shoulder to shoulder, and long queues everywhere. Whether entering the park, taking a boat trip, or even taking pictures by the lake, it took a long time to queue. This level of crowding significantly diminished the experience, and our original plan to savor the beauty of the cherry blossoms had to be changed to a rushed tour. Despite this, it was still worthwhile to see the delicate beauty of the cherry blossoms in person. I just hope that next time we come, we can avoid the peak crowds and enjoy the stunning beauty of the Yuantouzhu cherry blossoms more fully. 🌈Highlights: Cherry blossom viewing in spring, boat trips on Taihu Lake, and exploring Taihu Lake Fairy Island. 🚗Address & Transportation: Cherry blossom season is from March to April, and traffic control is in place every weekend. Whether driving or using other means of transport, it is recommended to transfer to the special cherry blossom shuttle bus at the Mei Garden bus stop. The journey takes 10 minutes and costs 5 yuan per person. 🎫Tickets: 90 yuan (including a boat trip to Taihu Lake Fairy Island) ✨Tips: 1. Avoid crowds: Visit on a working day to avoid weekends and holidays. Enter the park when it opens in the morning, as there are fewer visitors at this time, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful cherry blossom viewing experience and possibly encounter early birds and dew-kissed cherry blossoms. 2. Transportation tips: Choose public transport, as driving is prone to traffic jams and parking is difficult. Check the subway and bus schedules in advance to avoid difficulties returning after your visit. 3. Recommended cherry blossom viewing spots: Within the Yuantouzhu scenic area, the cherry blossoms by Changchun Bridge are like snow, the Changguangxi Wetland offers distant views of Taihu Lake dotted with cherry blossoms, and the Cherry Blossom Valley is an excellent spot for cherry blossom viewing. These less-crowded locations can help you avoid the crowds. 4. Photography tips: Use your phone's portrait mode or a camera with a large aperture to highlight the cherry blossoms and blur the background. Use natural light, side lighting, or backlighting. Use a reflector or white paper to reflect light and make the cherry blossoms appear brighter and more vibrant. 5. Sun and wind protection: There is often a breeze during cherry blossom season, so bring a light jacket and sunscreen to prevent colds and sunburn. Bring a small umbrella for sun protection and to add a romantic touch in the cherry blossom rain.

A Time-Saving Guide to Cherry Blossom Viewing at Yuantouzhu

A Time-Saving Guide to Cherry Blossom Viewing at Yuantouzhu

March 25, 2025, is the perfect time to admire the cherry blossoms at Yuantouzhu, Wuxi. The early cherry blossoms are beginning to wither, the mid-season cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the late cherry blossoms are budding. There are three entrances to Yuantouzhu: Chongshan Gate, Dushan Gate, and Guanshe Villa Pier (Guanshe Villa Pier No. 3, also known as Fisherman's Wharf, offers parking; if it's full, you can park in the opposite residential area). The first two gates are usually crowded, especially Chongshan Gate, which is far from Yuantouzhu. Although there are sightseeing trams, they are not recommended due to the long queues. For a time-saving experience, enter through Guanshe Villa Pier. You can purchase both Yuantouzhu entrance tickets (90 yuan/person) and speedboat tickets (45 yuan/person, one-way; return tickets must be purchased again at Changchun Bridge). A ten-minute speedboat ride takes you directly to Changchun Bridge (inside the Yuantouzhu scenic area). The cherry blossoms at Yuantouzhu are mainly concentrated around Changchun Bridge and Cherry Blossom Valley (including the Cherry Blossom Viewing Tower). No need for flowery words—the photos speak for themselves. After seeing these two spots, the cherry blossoms elsewhere might not seem as impressive. After disembarking at Changchun Bridge, go left to Cherry Blossom Valley, or right along the lake to Guangfu Temple, where you can enjoy a bowl of vegetarian noodles for 20 yuan (quite tasty). From Guangfu Temple, head east and pass through a bamboo forest to reach Cherry Blossom Valley. We parked at the residential area opposite Guanshe Villa Pier at 10:00 am and returned to our car at 1:30 pm after enjoying the cherry blossoms. The entire trip was leisurely, including a coffee break and a bowl of noodles, taking a total of 3.5 hours and costing 180 yuan/person (90 yuan for the entrance ticket + 90 yuan for the round-trip speedboat). We felt it was well worth it to admire the cherry blossoms at Yuantouzhu, Wuxi, one of the three major international cherry blossom festivals.
