Punaluu Black Sand Beach, a black dream on Hawaii's Big Island

Follow Highway 11 to Punaluu Black Sand Beach, and you'll feel like you've stepped into a mysterious world forgotten by time. The black sand is a precious gift from ancient volcanoes, fine and soft, with each grain carrying the stories of time and the secrets of the Earth. They shimmer with a metallic luster in the sunlight, contrasting with the clear blue sea to create a painting of intense yet harmonious colors. The sea here is majestic and ever-changing, with white waves rushing to the shore and gently spreading on the black sand, as if whispering to the beach. Not far away, sea turtles, like ancient sailors, slowly paddle their limbs, leaving elegant traces in the dark sea. They are the spirits of this beach, adding vitality to it. The sea breeze gently blows, bringing the salty scent of the deep sea mixed with the unique mineral smell of the beach, lingering at the tip of your nose and stirring the softest strings in your heart. Resting on the high coast, gazing at the sea and the people playing, time seems to stand still, and the troubles of the world gradually fade away, leaving only inner peace and awe for the wonders of nature.

Helicopters over volcanos

#grouptravel Helicopter tours are everywhere on the Big Island Hawaii. But it really can be a special experience to do this with your group or family. Our helicopter held 6 guests so not the largest available but a comfortable size for our group. Flying over the volcanoes and coastline and sharing in the excitement with my special people was something I will never forget. Getting There - Our helicopter left from Hilo airport. Next to the commuter terminal. If you stay on the Kona side of the island it’s about a 1.5 hr drive over the saddle road (one of big islands best maintained roads) Attractions - volcanoes, lava devastation, waterfalls, desert and rainforests are all items you will see in the hour long flight. After the helicopter ride you can also make your way to Volcano National Park for an up close look at the sites. Cost - $$$$ the helicopter ride was about $250AUD each and worth every cent. Or entry to Volcanoes National Park is $30 for 7 days. Big fun on Big Island

Big Island is actually called Hawaii island, it gets its name from being the biggest island in the state of Hawaii. I arrived via a short plane ride from Honolulu to Kona. You can also fly into Hilo on the other side of the island. Kona is a lovely small town and it is quite compact to spend a morning roaming around. Its location on the sea makes it all the more picturesque. The bulk of accomodation options are also around this area. Similar to neighboring Oahu, there's plenty to do! But unlike Oahu, it's much less busy and feels more laid-back and slow, something which 'island time' really reinforces. You'll want to rent a car and a car with enough horsepower, as the winding roads can be tough for a smaller car, especially when going up steep hills. On the island, you'll find both active and inactive volcanoes. A great place to discover more would he Volcanoes National Park, where you can see fumes coming out of a crater. You'll see the massive impact the lava has had on the Hawaiian landscape, where roads and towns were completely swallowed by it. The island also hosts many black sand beaches, which is a result from the constant volcanic activity in the vicinity. One of the most famous is Punalu'u Beach. There you can also spot sea turtles! Of course you'll also find numerous other beaches doting the coast. Some of them do incur a cost for parking but otherwise are free to enter. You'll also find many hiking trails which you'll be rewarded with beautiful waterfalls. Hiilawe Falls comes to mind. It's a very steep hike so do come prepared! Finally you can't leave Kona without trying some famous Kona coffee! Try some and take some home with you. Overall, Hawaii is a wonderful island to visit where you'll be rewarded with stunning and amazing landscapes. Hawaii, the unique richness and diversity of the Big Island

The Big Island is the largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, with a large area and sparse population. There is an airport on each side of the Big Island, east and west. To enjoy both sides, you can enter from Hilo and exit from Kona. There will be corresponding cross-city car rental fees. The main attractions on the east side are the Volcano Park, South Point Park, black/green sand beaches, and waterfalls. It is recommended to stay in Kupukupu in the Volcano Village on the east side. It is a two-bedroom detached villa. After booking on the official website, you will receive the passwords for entering the gate and the room. You can check in by yourself with the password. We never saw the landlord or the service person. Everyone is worry-free. The room is located in a tropical rainforest in the village, and the air is really good. The gardens in the front and back are carefully arranged. The entrance fee to the Volcano Park is valid for 7 days, which is a conscience price. The two active volcanoes on the Big Island - Kilauea and Mauna Loa are considered the safest volcanoes in the world. Every eruption increases the area of the Big Island. The cooled lava flows into the sea and forms a new piece of land. If you don't catch the volcano eruption, there will be lava hiking, and you can also take a helicopter to see the entire east coast. The most common sight on the Big Island is such a piece of land formed by cooled black lava. Witnessing destruction, creation, and rebirth with your own eyes can make you respect nature even more. Such a wide expanse of black lava, naturally cooled into different shapes, occasionally sprouting green life, some are crispy when stepped on. At the same time, the low latitude of 20 degrees north latitude can almost see the sky of the northern and southern hemispheres. So that night, we were completely shocked by the starry sky and the clear Milky Way. Volunteers on the top of the mountain will bring out telescopes for everyone to watch. The starry sky that you can see when you look up is unforgettable. The scenery on the mountain is also good, just like the scenery of the grassland. There are also some craters on the top of the mountain. Climbing to the top of the mountain, the clouds are under your feet, and you marvel at the magic of nature again. The temperature on the top of the mountain is low, so you need to wear a down jacket. If you don't bring children and have a four-wheel drive, you can go to the higher mountain top to see the observatory. Going to Kona, you will pass by the black sand beach, green sand beach, and South Point Park. The scenery of South Point Park is also good. Along the way, you will pass through grasslands, free-range cattle and sheep, brave divers, and beautiful rainbows. The main component of the green sand on the green sand beach is olivine. The locals say they are the tears of the volcano goddess. If the sun is just right, the beach will be greener. It is said that there are now two green sand beaches in the world. You can only get there by local pickup trucks, a piece of primitive and undeveloped grassland scenery.
