Hiking in Yubeng Village

Went to a small village in Yunnan called Yubeng. It was such a magical place to relax and hike within the Tibetan Mountain Range. I will most definitely be visiting again and I enjoyed every moment I spent here. The hikes were beautiful and it was so surreal to be able to hike within these Mountains. I never thought in my lifetime I’d be immersed in snowy mountain as big as these. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves hiking and being out in nature. Even if you don’t enjoy hiking it’s nice to just spend time in the cozy village at the local cafes and enjoying the views. Getting there was not the easiest or the quickest but it is worth it. You have to travel to Shangri-la and then take a bus to Deqen. It’s quite a long ride but beautiful views along the ways. Then stay at any of the hotels/hostels near the Meili Snow mountains when you get off the bus. You then stay over night and wake up bright and early for the sunrise. After that there will be cars waiting to bring travelers to Yubeng. You take a car and then arrive just below the Yubeng village. You buy a ticket into the village and then a jeep will come and pick you up to take you into the village. #yunnantravel #travelchina #snowmountain

Death Hiking Guide

Death Hiking Guide

(🔺3050m) Start to reach the God Lake (🔺4400m), then climb up 🔝500m to reach the Cuka Ridge (🔺4900m), see the Goddess Peak and the Five Crown Peak. The whole journey is 13km round trip, with an altitude climb of about 🔝1850m. Hiking Difficulty: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, advanced route, the most difficult route in Yubeng. ℹ️⚠️ Not recommended for hiking beginners. ❗️You can go to God Lake without a guide, the track is obvious. ℹ️But for God Lake plus, it is recommended to hire a guide, one is that the plus section is more dangerous, and the other is that it is safer to have a guide when there is snow or rain on the mountain. 🔶Transportation🔶 1⃣ Shangri-La—Ni Nong—Lower Yubeng Village➡️See the previous guide—Reverse through Yubeng; 2⃣Lijiang or Shangri-La—Xi Dang—Lower Yubeng Village➡️ Direct or transfer to Lijiang from all over the place, after arriving in Lijiang, share a car to Xi Dang (270 yuan/person), takes 6h✔️Direct or transfer to Shangri-La from all over the place, then share a car to Xi Dang (120 yuan/person), takes 4h✔️After arriving in Xi Dang, buy a 55 yuan ticket. 🔺How to enter the village🔺↘️Hiking. (The whole journey is about 13km, takes 5-7h, cross the Nan Zheng Pass, climb 1000m, descend 550m.) ↘️Take an off-road vehicle, to Upper Yubeng (200 yuan/person), to Lower Yubeng (260 yuan/person). 🔶Equipment List🔶 Backpack (15L—20L), hiking shoes, quick-drying clothes, storm jacket (bright color, for taking photos), fleece hat, warm gloves, headlamp, hiking stick, knee pads (steep slope, used for downhill), sunglasses, snow cover, simple ice claws, 2L water, one meal on the road, 500ml thermos cup of hot water (remember to bring), energy gel. 🔶God Lake Route Introduction🔶 1⃣ Start from Lower Yubeng Village at 8 am and walk the God Lake plus line. At the beginning, it is a long-distance climb, the track is clear, you can feel the change of different vegetation, you will pass through a large bamboo forest, the whole journey is a dirt road. 2⃣Arrive at the crosscut section at 11 o'clock, the gentle path on the hillside, about 1 kilometer, you can see a large rhododendron forest. 3⃣After this section, enter the snow line, the snow starts to get thicker, there is a small section of gravel road, cross two passes to reach God Lake. 4⃣After a rest, walk the plus section from the left and right sides, both sides have routes. ℹ️If you are an old donkey, you can follow the two-step track. If you are a beginner, you need to hire a guide. I think both sides can be called the God Lake plus section, the left section is more dangerous, the right section is more gentle in the climbing process. We walked on both sides, I walked on the left route. It is recommended to bring knee pads for downhill, the downhill is enough to abuse, protect the knees.

Hiking paradise

Another well frequented sport by China expats, this is a gorgeous and peaceful village in the Yunnan mountains. There are two villages (Upper and Lower) with most people staying at the upper village. Its quite a challenging hike to get here but absolutely worth it The primary reason for these villages is to act as a camp of sorts for the various hiking trails that are nearby, including Glacier Lake ans Sacred Waterfall. The trails are well signposted and easy to follow. But are extremely difficult. The village has some charm and character as well as having a couple of restaurants and cafes. It's all basic accommodation but it does the job nicely. A wonderful, beautiful place that I was privileged to visit. The weather is very changeable here so be prepared #yearofrabbit #newyearadventure #tripblazers #china #hiking #outdoors

Before Hiking Meili Snow Mountain, Be Sure to Visit Feilai Temple

Before Hiking Meili Snow Mountain, Be Sure to Visit Feilai Temple

If you plan to hike to Rainstorm Village (Yubeng) or Mingyong Glacier, you'll inevitably pass through Feilai Temple. This small town, known as the best viewing spot for Meili Snow Mountain, is not only the starting point for many hiking routes but also the most unmissable place to witness the "Golden Mountain" sunrise over Meili Snow Mountain. 📌 What is the "Golden Mountain" sunrise? * "Golden Mountain" refers to the spectacular sight of the sun's rays illuminating the main peak of Meili Snow Mountain, Kawagebo (6,740m above sea level), in a golden glow during early morning or evening. * Due to the year-round clouds and mist surrounding Meili Snow Mountain, the chance of seeing a complete "Golden Mountain" sunrise is rare, making it a truly special experience. Best Viewing Locations * Feilai Temple Viewing Platform (recommended, widest view) * Hotel balconies near Feilai Temple (some rooms offer direct views of the snow mountain) * First Bend of the Yangtze River Viewpoint (slightly further away, different perspective) ⏰ Best Viewing Time * Winter (November to February): Clear weather offers the highest probability of witnessing the "Golden Mountain" sunrise. * Early morning 6:30-7:30 (sunrise): The most magnificent moment, as golden light bathes Kawagebo Peak. * Evening 18:00-19:00 (sunset): The changing light and shadow on the snow mountain at sunset are also beautiful. 📷 Photography Tips ✅ Arrive early: Secure a good spot half an hour before sunrise to avoid crowds. ✅ Camera settings: Use manual mode to adjust exposure and prevent overexposure of the snow mountain. ✅ Tripod + telephoto lens: Ensures stability for long-distance shots; a focal length of 70-200mm is recommended. 🚶 Recommended Hiking Routes from Feilai Temple 1️⃣ Feilai Temple → Rainstorm Village (Yubeng) (Classic Hiking Route) 🔹 Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ 🔹 Hiking time: 6-8 hours one way 🔹 Route: Feilai Temple → Xidang Village (40-minute drive) → Nanzong Pass (3,700m) → Rainstorm Village (Yubeng) 🔹 Highlights: Hike through primeval forests, close-up views of Meili Snow Mountain, Yubeng God Waterfall, and Ice Lake 🚩 Tips: * You can take a car to Xidang Village (the starting point of the hike) and then begin your trek over Nanzong Pass. The scenery is spectacular but demanding. * After arriving at Rainstorm Village (Yubeng), you can continue to explore the Ice Lake (3,900m above sea level) or the God Waterfall (a Tibetan pilgrimage site). 2️⃣ Feilai Temple → Mingyong Glacier (Easy Hike) 🔹 Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ 🔹 Hiking time: 2-3 hours one way 🔹 Route: Feilai Temple → Mingyong Village (1-hour drive) → Mingyong Glacier boardwalk (hike) 🔹 Highlights: Close-up views of Meili Snow Mountain glacier and Tibetan villages 🚩 Tips: * Suitable for visitors with average physical fitness. The entire route is a wooden boardwalk with beautiful scenery. * The glacier is spectacular in winter, while some areas experience snowmelt in summer. 🚗 Transportation Guide How to reach Feilai Temple: 🛫 By air: * Shangri-La Diqing Airport → Feilai Temple (approx. 5 hours by car) 🚌 By bus: * Lijiang/Shangri-La → Deqin County (8-10 hours by bus) * Deqin County → Feilai Temple (30 minutes by minibus) 🚗 By car: * Lijiang → Shangri-La → Deqin → Feilai Temple (approx. 8-10 hours, challenging road conditions)

Yubeng Village in Diqing | A paradise for hiking enthusiasts

Yubeng Village in Diqing | A paradise for hiking enthusiasts

Enjoying nature is key right now🍃, and the best part is that even beginners can do it! Especially since I usually don't exercise, being a lazy person, I managed to walk it too! Some hiking experience sharing: 🏔️About the route The Divine Waterfall route is a well-established hiking trail, with clear road signs throughout. The entrance is at P3, after which you'll walk a gentle path, similar to strolling in a forest park, then reach a mountain pass with beautiful scenery and a direct view of the snow-capped mountains. There's a simple supply and rest area here. The second half of the journey starts to ascend along prayer flags, with endless stairs that are incredibly tiring and desperate. You can vividly feel your body in hell while your eyes are in heaven, and then you arrive at the foot of the Divine Waterfall. Reaching the mountaintop is like the real-life reproduction of the scene from childhood poems 'The sun shines on the incense burner, producing purple smoke; from afar, the waterfall hangs before the stream.' 🚘About transportation Shangri-La ➡️ Deqin ➡️ Xidang Village You can buy bus tickets through gzh (Diqing Transportation) or contact local drivers for a chartered car. Xidang Village ➡️ Yubeng Village You can hike or take an off-road vehicle. 🛏️About accommodation If you're only walking the Divine Waterfall route, stay in Lower Yubeng. If you're taking other routes, Upper Yubeng is recommended for a broader view. 🥣About food Yubeng Village has nice little restaurants, or you can eat at guesthouses. Remember to bring Snickers🍫 and Coke when hiking, a bite when you're tired. 🧣About clothing My outfit from October to November: Thermal underwear + wool sweater + 3-in-1 jacket (start taking off halfway) Thermal pants + work pants Hiking shoes (recommend buying one size larger and must be soft, otherwise, you'll end up like me, losing a toenail) Backpack (raincoat, thermos, food) Little tips: Shoes are quite important, comfortable sports shoes are fine for walking the Divine Waterfall. Trekking poles are not necessary, but if you have bad knees, consider knee protection. 🌳About altitude sickness: If you don't get altitude sickness in Shangri-La, you can rest assured to enter Yubeng, as the vegetation there is lush and the oxygen content is high! You can bring an oxygen canister and glucose as a precaution. 🧩A bit of rambling In Yubeng, I saw the sunlit golden mountain and the stars twinkling in the night sky🌟. Walking in the empty mountain pass felt like I was the only person left in the world. Academic stress and worries in life all seemed less important. Perhaps this is the meaning of travel.

Deqin Hiking: A Local's Secret Feilai Temple Hiking Route!

Deqin Hiking: A Local's Secret Feilai Temple Hiking Route!

If you're traveling to Deqin and don't want to do the more difficult Yubeng hike, you can choose this less-traveled hiking route near Feilai Temple. / Feilai Temple is an excellent place to view the magnificent Meili Snow Mountain. In addition to the landmark viewing platform, there is also a very private Feilai Temple hilltop viewing platform. / This small hilltop is very hidden! Unless you are led by a local, it is not recommended to try to hike up on your own. / The entire hiking route takes about an hour. It passes through the residential houses of Feilai Temple, through some fields, and continues to climb up the mountain. The road becomes more difficult to walk later on, and basically only local villagers know how to walk the small paths. / The scenery along the way is quite good. Near the bottom is the small village view of Feilai Temple, and in the distance is the Meili Snow Mountain. The destination of this trip is a small hilltop, which is relatively high, so the view is quite good! Come here in the morning to see the golden sunrise over Meili Snow Mountain, it's absolutely beautiful! / Unfortunately, I encountered a cloudy day and waited for an hour, but the clouds still didn't dissipate, so I went down the mountain. I look forward to going again next time! / ⭕️ "Transportation Guide": To get to Feilai Temple from Deqin County, it is recommended to take a taxi. To reach the viewing platform, you need to be led by a local and hike up the mountain.
