5 Pagodas, classic India style in Hohhot

A last minute decision to squeeze in a visit to the Five Pagoda Temple was wise. It is a little out of the way, near the Qingcheng Park. There are several small temple structures leading to the pagoda, that have beautiful traditional wall paintings and large central sculptures, but there was also a lovely display of golden sacred statuary worthy of any museum. The main structure is a large gray temple consisting of a stupa surrounded by 5 pagodas. The stupa has 1,563 images of Buddha carved into the walls. They all seem the same but as you focus on them each is slightly different. The pagoda was constructed in 1732. It was a hot sunny summer day when we visited but there many shady places filled with flowers. #awesomepic #urbanexplorer #awesomepic

Hohhot - A city of Culture

Surrounded by fresh air, green grasslands and mountain hikes- Hohhot is the perfect starting point for a Inner Mongolian adventure. Considering the climate and the relative comfort of the city, it’s a good introduction to the rest of the province, giving you things to see without starting off too extreme. One such great thing to do is to just wander around. Starting in the heart of downtown you can quickly walk through multiple temple complexes, as well as a couple of mosques - that diversity being a notable point of reference that makes for an interesting view. Then, when you’re ready, grab a bowl of hot noodles and it’s time to get ready for the rest of your adventure. #ancienttomb#museumquest#culturalattractions

Hohhot Dazhao Temple

Hohhot Dazhao Temple

Dazhao Temple, also known as Wuliang Temple, is also called the 'Silver Buddha Temple' because it houses a silver Buddha statue. It is one of the most famous temples in Hohhot and the earliest Tibetan Buddhist temple built in the city. Belonging to the Gelug sect (Yellow Hat sect), it covers an area of more than 30,000 square meters and adopts the architectural layout of a Han temple. The main buildings include the Mountain Gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Bodhi Hall, the Main Hall, the Sutra Pavilion, and the Scripture Hall. The most important buildings in Dazhao Temple are historical relics from the Ming Dynasty . The Silver Buddha is a 3-meter-high seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, cast from 30,000 taels of pure silver, making it one of the largest existing silver Buddhas in China. The magnificent temple architecture, precious cultural relics and artworks, and the mysterious shaman dances and music constitute the unique 'Temple Culture' of Dazhao. 🌟Highlights: The grand 'Drying the Buddha' ceremonies held twice a year. On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month and the fifteenth day of the sixth lunar month, a future Buddha image, 2 zhang long and 1.5 zhang wide, is taken out and hung in front of the Buddha Hall for display. Devotees bow to the Buddha, offer khatas, and donate money and goods to seek a glimpse of the Buddha's visage and bathe in the Buddha's grace. 📍Detailed Address: Dazhao Front Street, Yuquan District, Hohhot 🕙Opening Hours: 8:00 to 18:00 all year round Adult Ticket: 35 yuan, discounts for children and students, additional charges for guided tours
