Hilton Wenchang is a fantastic hotel to escape from the hustle city. The amenities and facilities are good. The staff are friendly and helpful. Some of them can speak English. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice bathtub and a big balcony with stunning views. Regarding the exterior, there were multiple pools but some of them were under maintenance. The beach area was incredible, clear water and white sand. Hilton Wenchang is definitely a nice place to stay and relax. Hainan Wenchang Pan Cun Former Residence.

Pan Cun Former Residence was built in the Qing dynasty. It originally had a two-wing layout with a gate tower, main house, two rows of side houses, and walls, covering an area of 392 square meters. During the Japanese invasion of Hainan, most of it was destroyed, leaving only two main houses. The layout is basically the same, with brick and wood structure, gable roof, three bays, and wooden walls on both sides of the main room. The former residence has an ancient well and two old houses, which have been damaged to varying degrees due to age and lack of funds for cultural relic protection. The old houses were also damaged by Typhoon Rammasun. In 2017, the Wenchang Municipal Government restored it. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Hainan Province. Pan Cun (1818–1893), courtesy name Zhongmo, was a Qing dynasty official and writer from Gangtou Village, Puzhen Town, Wenchang County, Hainan Province. In the first year of Xianfeng (1851), Pan Cun passed the provincial examination and was soon appointed as an official in the Ministry of Revenue and the Fujian Department. He stayed in Beijing for 30 years, taking the metropolitan examination more than ten times without success. At the age of 66, he resigned and returned to his hometown, moving to Baishayuan Village. In the ninth year of Guangxu (1883), when French colonists launched an invasion war, the two governors of Guangdong and Guangxi, Zhang Shusheng and Zhang Zhidong, appointed Pan Cun as the commander of the militias in Leizhou and Qiongzhou to train sailors to guard the coastal defense. He was awarded the fourth rank of official. In his later years, he devoted himself to education and taught at Fenghu Academy in Huizhou, Guangdong, Weiwen Academy in Wenchang, Hainan, and Suquan Academy in Qiongshan. He later co-founded Xibei Academy in Wenchang County with Inspector Zhu Liangsheng. In the 19th year of Guangxu (1893), Pan Cun died at the age of 75.

Yueliangwan in Wenchang with My Wife & Son 😌

At first glance, Wenchang seems like another normal remote location in Hainan, but when you look deeper you can see that it is an oasis for anyone looking for peace & quiet. Yueliangwan beach is about an hour taxi ride away from Wenchang train station and it where we found ourselves during the second half of our trip in Wenchang. The food there was great, especially the fish. They also specialize in chicken with their signature Wenchang Chicken dish. Yueliangwan is literally in the middle of nowhere, but it’s perfect for some like me. When you get to the water, the coast stretches for as long as the eyes can see. This beach is very different from other beaches in Hainan because the sand is completely flat, leading to a smooth walk on the beach. There are so many different types of little clams, crabs, and shell fish. You can literally see so many people casting nets in the water. The people are also very nice and happy people. You can tell that they really enjoy their lives. We spent hours there collecting shells, admiring the sky, and jumping into the water. If you are taking a long trip around Hainan, definitely take a side quest to Yueliangwan for a day or two. You’ll definitely enjoy yourself! #beachlife #china #hainan #summervacation
