When talking about Beihai, one cannot help but mention its enchanting sunset scene, which is like the gentle brushstrokes of nature, painting a series of breathtaking paintings on the horizon. When the setting sun slowly sinks into the horizon, the horizon is gradually stained with a layer of gorgeous golden red, and the sunset in Beihai quietly kicks off. Under the shining of the setting sun, the sea surface seems to be covered with a layer of flowing gold, sparkling, and the clouds in the distant sky complement each other, which is so beautiful that it makes people feel relaxed and happy. At this time, whether you are walking on the Silver Beach, letting the soft sand caress your feet, or standing on the top of Guantouling, overlooking the boundless sea view and sunset glow, you can deeply feel the unique tranquility and magnificence of the Beihai sunset.

Off-season Beihai is back, highly recommended!

Off-season Beihai is back, highly recommended!

Lunar New Year came early this year, leaving a longer post-holiday period. After some research, I decided on Guangxi, visiting Nanning, Beihai, and Chongzuo. Guilin was on the itinerary, but a cold snap made it less appealing, so I skipped it. Overall, the trip was great, and the off-season had its perks. Here's a detailed account of my second stop, Beihai. The high-speed train from Nanning to Beihai is super convenient, just over an hour. Beihai felt noticeably warmer, several degrees higher than Nanning. From the Beihai train station, a rideshare to my hotel was incredibly cheap, only around CNY 10. I booked an oceanfront room with a balcony at Qiaogang Beach for under CNY 300 a night, including breakfast—what a steal! Now, why not stay near Silver Beach? Hotels and guesthouses there are set back from the beach itself. Silver Beach Park, while free, is fenced with limited access points. If your accommodation isn't close to an entrance, getting to the beach can be a hassle. Qiaogang Beach has a few hotels right on the sand, offering oceanfront rooms. Mine was one of them, with a balcony directly facing the sea—the cover photo was taken right from there. Besides the beachfront rooms, Qiaogang Beach's biggest advantage is its tranquility—it's blissfully uncrowded! The sand is fine and soft, perfect for beachcombing. The amenities are good too, with plenty of affordable restaurants near the beach entrance. A CNY 94 seafood meal for two included a huge plate of salt and pepper mantis shrimp, steamed scallops with vermicelli, cuttlefish cakes, stir-fried clams, greens, and a pitcher of passion fruit juice. It was amazing, exceeding all expectations. Off-season Weizhou Island was also fantastic. My guesthouse room near the Xijiao Pier was spacious, with a nice view and a reasonable price of under CNY 300 per night. I rented an e-bike and toured the island, visiting Crocodile Mountain, Dishuidanping, the Catholic Church, Shell Beach, and Colorful Beach—every spot was worth exploring. The seafood dinners for two on Nanwan Commercial Street were excellent. If you know your seafood, you can buy it fresh at the market and have a restaurant cook it for you—convenient and budget-friendly. Of course, the off-season has its downsides. The weather wasn't ideal; it was overcast almost every day in Beihai. The coastal scenery loses some of its magic without sunshine.

🌊Infinity pool🌊Floor-to-ceiling windows🌊Sea view terrace The pool and sea view terrace in the public area are perfect for taking photos. If you're planning to visit Weizhou Island, just go for it! 🌟I was really shocked when I entered the room. The space is very spacious and the sea view from the floor-to-ceiling windows is amazing. There is also a small table and a pool. 🌟The toiletries and facilities are very complete, and the bedding is carefully selected. 🌟There are snacks and various drinks in the room, all of which are FREE. 🌟The service is really thoughtful. If you have any questions, they will reply to your messages immediately and tell you about the surrounding travel strategies. You will never forget it once you stay. 📍The homestay is located on the west coast of Weizhou Island, Dishui Village. You can watch a sea sunset without leaving the house! The nearby Dishui Danping Scenic Area is within walking distance. There are electric cars for rent at the door, and it is quite close to everywhere.

Weizhou Island, Beihai! The sea view courtyard is stunningly beautiful. A 2-minute walk from the beach, the hotel is located on the sunset side of the island. Every day, you can enjoy the healing orange sunset over the sea. The sea water of Weizhou Island is really clear, and you will remember a city because of a hotel. Volcano Crater

Volcano Crater

The Beihai Volcano Crater Park is located on Weizhou Island in Beihai, which is the largest volcanic island in China. The lava erupted by the volcano, after ten thousand years of wind and rain, still leaves those astonishing traces of the years. The vibrant and colorful living corals are a major feature of Weizhou Island; on the beach, there are many weathered white coral fragments and shells gathered together to form a long scenic line. It is said that when the sea is calm, you don't need to dive to see living corals in shallow waters.

Beihai, Waisha Island

Beihai, Waisha Island

It was quite far from Royal Bay Mansion to Waisha Island. I took bus No. 17 to the terminal station Beibuwan Square, then walked north along Sichuan Road for two stops to Waisha Island. Walking on Sichuan Road, passing by the banyan trees and old buildings on both sides, I felt the uniqueness of Beihai. Later, I found that the west entrance of Beihai Old Street was here, but I went east that day. After crossing Waisha Bridge, I was on the island. There was nothing special here. Some entertainment venues that were developed before were in ruins. The only attraction was the white internet-famous plank road. The viewing platform was bustling with people.
