Trains of the West by Uncommon Journeys was both enjoyable and fascinating! We began in Salt Lake City, driving to Ely, Nevada, with a stop at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Then, we experienced the No Nevada Railroad, continued by car to Reno, rode the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, visited the National Car Museum in Reno, and cruised on the stunning Lake Tahoe. The adventure also included two days in Yosemite, a ride on the Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad, and the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railroad. Along the way, the scenic beauty was breathtaking, and we were lucky to have Joe Jorns as our tour guide and driver. Joe and Steve ensured everything ran smoothly at every stop. It was an absolutely wonderful trip!

One trail, two Eastern Sierra wonders. This easy day hike near Mammoth Lakes takes you from a wall of giant rock columns all the way to a waterfall with its own rainbow. The trail · Start at the Devils Postpile ranger station, where the sign reads: Devils Postpile 0.4 miles, Rainbow Falls 2.5 miles. The first stretch follows the famous John Muir Trail through tall pines. · Stop 1, Devils Postpile: after a short, flat walk you reach a wall of near-perfect basalt columns, stacked like giant pencils, with a field of broken columns piled up below. · Keep heading south through quiet forest and golden meadows. Signs along the way share stories about the wildlife living in the canopy. · Further on, the forest opens up into a wide, sunny stretch dotted with fallen logs. · Stop 2, Rainbow Falls: the trail ends above a deep canyon where the water drops into a pool, and on a sunny day the spray paints a rainbow across the falls. · Head down to the rocky river below the falls for a snack break before walking back the same way, about 5 miles return in total. Address: Devils Postpile National Monument, Mammoth Lakes, California Hours: Daily 9am to 5pm Price range: US$15 per adult for the shuttle (children 3 to 17 US$7) How to get there: · Take the Reds Meadow shuttle from the Panorama Gondola building at Mammoth Mountain, 10001 Minaret Rd Tips: · The shuttle is required for most visitors when it's running, so book ahead · Bring water and sun protection, parts of the trail have little shade · Wear comfy shoes, the path is dusty and rocky near the falls Nature's geometry and a rainbow waterfall on one trail. An Eastern Sierra highlight.

Coming from Yosemite, on the other side lies Mammoth Lakes—a premier ski destination and an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Located at an altitude of 2,400 to 3,000 meters, the air is crisp, the starry skies are breathtaking, and alpine lakes dot the landscape like stars. You can go horseback riding🐎, fishing🎣, or boating🚣... there’s so much to do, yet it feels far less crowded than the national parks. Absolutely loved it. We also found a wild hot spring nestled in the mountains called Crab Cooker—perfect for a certain Cancer in our group! (Note: The road to the hot spring is very bumpy; high-clearance SUVs are recommended!) Classic spots you shouldn't miss: 💧 Twin Lakes · Located at the base of Mammoth Mountain. · Very easy to access. · Stunning reflections of forests and peaks on the water. · Perfect for a casual stroll or photography. 🌋 Devils Postpile National Monument · Incredible basalt columns. · These hexagonal pillars are so perfectly arranged they look man-made. · You can also hike to Rainbow Falls from here. 🏔️ Minaret Vista · The best viewpoint for the Sierra Nevada peaks. · No long hike required. · Breathtaking at sunset. 💦 June Lake Loop If you have a car, highly recommended. It’s particularly stunning in the fall when the aspens along the road turn brilliant gold.

🌸 A Symphony in Bloom The world has traded its winter coat for a masterpiece of color. Beneath an unending canopy of brilliant blue, the garden has become a bustling workshop of life. Listen closely, and you can hear the steady, rhythmic hum of the bees—nature’s tireless artisans. They are hard at work, dancing from the snow-white clusters to the vibrant magenta boughs, weaving through every petal to ensure the promise of tomorrow. In this moment, everything is in perfect harmony: The vibrant pinks reaching for the sun. The soft white blooms drifting like grounded clouds. The golden-green ferns swaying in the breeze. It’s a gentle reminder that while we rush, nature takes its time—and yet, not a single second is wasted. 🐝✨

An endless expanse of blue sky and water🩵 Feel the calmness, just like the serene waters of Bass Lake😌 💞Why we recommend it 　Gazing at the vast lake and sky makes you feel as if you've stepped into another world♪ 　There's a small shopping street nearby, and spending an afternoon with a coffee bought there is truly special☕️ 　I saw people playing in the water, and I slightly regretted not bringing a swimsuit🤏 📍Location California, USA

The day before our Yosemite itinerary, we stopped by Bass Lake near the lodge. We went without much expectation, but it turned out to be much better than we imagined. The lake was vast and tranquil, surrounded by incredibly peaceful scenery. There were hardly any people around, making it feel like a secret spot only we knew about, completely detached from the noise of the city. Just walking along the lakeside helped clear our minds, and even the air felt fresh and clean. As the sun set, the sky's colors spread across the water, creating a scene that remains vivid in my memory. Although it was an unplanned visit, I can't think of a better place to spend a quiet moment. Location: Bass Lake, California

Before heading to Yosemite, I stayed at a lodge near Bass Lake for a day. I discovered this place by chance on the map, and it exceeded my expectations. There were hardly any people, and the lake was calm and serene. The sunlight gently filtered through the trees, and the only sound was the breeze, creating a peaceful atmosphere that I absolutely loved. The reflections of the sky and trees on the water were striking, making it a perfect spot for a short walk and relaxation. It wasn’t crowded like typical tourist spots, which made it even better. It’s an ideal place for a picnic or a quiet break. Experiencing such a tranquil location before entering Yosemite made it all the more memorable. Location: Bass Lake, California

#JapanFlightEvent Bass Lake, near Oakhurst, was an impressive calm lake. The natural scenery reflected on the calm water was so beautiful that I couldn't help but exclaim in admiration. It had a simple yet peaceful charm, making it the perfect place to stay for a while and enjoy some leisure time.

At the height of summer queues to get into California’s famous Yosemite national park can be anything up to 2 hours and with a $35 fee to enter many can be put off. However little over 30 minutes drive away you can find the stunning mammoth lakes. One of the best hikes is to take the shuttle to the visitor centre where a 5 mile (relatively easy) round trip takes you to the stunning Rainbow falls. Aim to arrive arround midday for the best chance to view the rainbow emitting out of the waterfall #waterfall #rainbow #Mammoth lakes

If you're looking for a really nice LA restaurant for Christmas, I recommend La Piazza in The Grove. The LA The Grove shopping mall starts decorating for Christmas from mid-November, and this La Pizza restaurant is located in a prime spot with a good view of the tree🧡 The terrace seats are the best, and even on chilly days, there are sofas so you can eat warmly I ordered pizza, French fries, and two glasses of sparkling wine! They came out with giant French fries that were almost as big as the pizza. 🤣 This all came to $72.27 With a 20% tip, it came to $15 So it came to about $87 One pizza, one French fries, and two glasses of wine for 120,000 won ^_^..! The prices in the US are really... outrageous, but the atmosphere is good, the food is good, and the staff is very friendly, so I want to recommend it. Address: 189 The Grove Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90036 USA Opening hours: Weekdays 11:00-22:30, Weekends 10:00-22:30 #USATravel
