It made the whole trip so much more relaxing! Actually walking on thousand-year-old blue ice and seeing the glacier up close is a completely different feeling than just taking photos from an observation deck 😭 There was also a boat tour of the glacier lagoon, where you can sail right next to massive chunks of blue floating ice. If you’re lucky, you might even spot "wild seals"! Compared to starting a guide from scratch, this method is perfect for people like me who "want freedom but don't want to plan everything themselves" 😂 3️⃣ A full Ring Road tour, not just the South Coast This was one of the reasons I chose this package. Besides the must-see spots like the Golden Circle, Vik, and the South Coast, we also went all the way to Höfn, Egilsstaðir in the east, and Akureyri in the north before returning via Borgarnes. Over the 8 days, we saw everything from the south to the east and the north. Seeing all the different landscapes of Iceland in one trip is perfect for those who want a comprehensive experience. Many websites and travel guides refer to it as the "Capital of the North," which filled me with anticipation as I planned a two-day trip, including a whale-watching tour 🐳. However, after visiting, my feelings were mixed—while there were interesting spots, the overall experience wasn't particularly stunning. The city itself is small, and its most distinctive feature is the shopping street 📍 Address: Hafnarstræti 🛍️. Although the street isn't long, it boasts stylish boutiques, handmade crafts, and cozy cafes. In winter, the street is adorned with lights and snow, creating a lovely atmosphere. Beyond that, though, the city center felt somewhat ordinary, especially under the gray and rainy weather 🌫️. I also visited Akureyri's iconic church, Akureyrarkirkja. However, upon learning that there was an entrance fee, I decided against going inside 🙅♂️. Instead, I took photos outside. The day's itinerary is relaxed. From Húsavík to Akureyri is a 97 km drive, with only one planned stop along the way: Goðafoss. The drive from Húsavík to Goðafoss is 47 km. Half an hour after leaving Húsavík, we could see Goðafoss in the distance. We arrived at the Goðafoss east parking lot around 11:35 AM. Parking is free, and the restroom costs 200 ISK per person. We first took photos and enjoyed the view from the various observation decks on the east bank of the river. There is a pedestrian bridge connecting the east and west banks of the river. The information board at the site describes Goðafoss (via Google Translate): Legend has it that in the year 1000, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, a chieftain and "law speaker" of the Althing (Icelandic Parliament), was tasked with deciding whether Icelanders should convert to Christianity. He successfully persuaded his countrymen to accept the new religion. Upon returning home, he threw his pagan idols into the waterfall.
