Our group of retired nurses booked a guided tour through Lisbon, Fatima, Batalha, Nazare, Porto, and Baiona before starting our Camino (Portuguese Coastal Route) in April/May 2026. David, our exceptional host and guide, also led us during the final four days of our journey after completing the Camino. Picking us up from Santiago, he took us south to Porto, allowing us to reflect on the routes we had walked. He even took an inland detour to showcase Portugal’s stunning vineyards, rolling hills, and scenic meadows. As a wonderful surprise, we made a stop in Mealhada for a feast of leitao (suckling pig) on our way to Seville, Setenil de las Bodegas, Ronda, and finally Madrid. David introduced us to hidden gems and local dining spots that we never would have found on our own. The itinerary was both packed and easy-paced—perfect for our age group of 60 to 70-year-olds. David is incredibly knowledgeable, adaptable, and a consummate professional. His humor, kindness, trustworthiness, and caring nature stood out, and his energy was absolutely contagious! Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and more, he made us feel like we were traveling with a close friend or family member we’d known forever. If his lovely wife Michelle is available to join, as she did for us, you’re in for an even more extraordinary A+ experience! David and Michelle truly became our Camino “angels”—I cannot recommend him highly enough for anyone visiting Portugal, Spain, or planning their first Camino Santiago journey.

#summervacay Mirador de Setenil de las Bodegas is one of those spots where you stop, look around, and just go “whoa.” It’s not super high up or anything crazy, but the view gives you the perfect angle of this wild little town built right into the rocks. You see the white houses squeezed under massive slabs of stone, and it’s like the cliffs and buildings are having a permanent hug. It’s a chill spot to pause and take it all in. Great for photos, obviously, but also just cool to stand there and think about how people have lived like this for centuries. The vibe is super quiet and peaceful, especially early in the morning or late afternoon when the light hits the town just right. You don’t need to spend a ton of time here, just take a stroll, grab a pic, and enjoy how weird and awesome Setenil is from above. Definitely worth the short climb for the “wow” moment.

It is very well preserved and restored, having won the 'National Tourism Award for the Beautification and Improvement of Spanish Villages.' The village of #setenil de las Bodegas is an ancient Spanish village that still maintains its ancient state. The houses that are renovated or added on to fit in with the original environment are not outstanding. I went to buy some fruit in the shop and saw some walls that were made of rocks that were part of the mountain. Walking along the road, I saw a sedan that had parked under the rocks. They acted as part of the mountain, building houses to follow the shape of the rocks without cutting or damaging them. It was an amazing village. After walking around until I was tired, I went back to the parking lot to look around the car to see how much damage there was. There were no dents at all, just a few scratches that were barely visible. I didn't have to worry about this because I had bought full protection insurance. They would fix everything themselves without having to check the car when I took it back. So I felt somewhat relieved. I read that you shouldn't miss eating at the restaurant under the rocks. It was past 2 pm, so I walked to see the restaurant under the rocks, which was near the parking lot. There were about ten restaurants lined up. They were under large rocks. On the other side was a large canal. Right now, the water level was very low, almost dry, with small rocks paving the floor of the canal. At that time, it was late afternoon and the restaurant was starting to get empty. I looked at the pictures of the food in front of each shop, but I didn't like any of them. None of them sold steak. Until I came to the last shop. Looking at the pictures, it seemed like I could eat, so I stopped at this shop. A staff came to ask me. This person could speak some English, so I asked him to recommend something that wasn't a big plate. He recommended barbecue, so I ordered 1 stick and 1 can of Coke. After waiting for a while, the food came. It wasn't really big, but it was enough to fill me up. Looking at the other tables, most of the dishes were very big. My plate was so small that it was funny. Other people must have thought, what did I order? 😂🤣😂 The price was not cheap at all. It must be because everyone thinks the same thing. When you come here, you have to come and eat. After sitting for a while, tourists came and sat down until it was full. I was very lucky to come early. When I had already walked around the parking lot, it was noon. It was all full of tourists. After that, I set the navigator to Ronda, entered the old town, drove to the parking lot...full... went to another place...full... also full along the road. After driving around for several times, I decided to go back. Driving back to the hotel, the navigator told me to drive into the military area again, so I went in again and circled out without asking.
