Arusha travel guide and discussion

#arrivalguide 📍 Place: Arusha & Dar es Salaam, Tanzania ✨ What it felt like: From the lively streets of Dar es Salaam to the safari gateway of Arusha, every experience felt more enjoyable after learning a few local customs. Small details, like greeting people politely or understanding local transport, really made a difference. 👀 What stood out: I learned that it's always best to agree on a taxi fare before the journey or use trusted ride apps where available. Asking permission before photographing people is a sign of respect, and carrying some Tanzanian Shillings makes shopping and eating at local markets much easier. I also discovered that evenings in Arusha can be cooler than expected because of the higher elevation, while Dar es Salaam's weather can change quickly with sudden tropical showers. 💡 Exclusive tip: Learn a few simple Swahili phrases like "Jambo," "Mambo," or "Asante." Even a small effort to speak the local language often brings warm smiles and friendlier conversations. ❤️ Personal feeling: Travel becomes much more meaningful when you embrace local customs instead of rushing from one attraction to another. These little lessons made me feel more connected to Tanzania and its welcoming people. #Tanzania #Arusha #DarEsSalaam #TravelTips #TripMoments #AfricaTravel #SafariAdventure #TravelSmart #ExploreTanzania

Standing tall as the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano that commands respect from every traveler. It is a true bucket-list challenge, offering a unique journey that takes you through five distinct ecological zones, from lush tropical rainforests to the desolate, arctic-like summit. Reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point, as the sun rises over the African plains, is an achievement that stays with you forever. It is a powerful testament to human perseverance and the sheer scale of the natural world. 🏔️☀️ . 📅 What to experience · The Ascent: Choosing the right route is key. Whether it’s the popular Marangu, the scenic Lemosho, or the challenging Barranco Wall on the Machame route, each path offers a different perspective of the mountain’s diverse landscape. · Uhuru Peak: This is the ultimate goal. Standing at 5,895 meters above sea level, you are quite literally standing on top of the continent, looking down at the clouds. · Ecological Diversity: It is fascinating to watch the world change around you as you climb, from the humid, wildlife-rich forests at the base to the stark, frozen landscapes near the top. . 🏨 Where to stay · Most climbers base themselves in the town of Moshi or Arusha. You will find a variety of hotels and lodges here that specialize in supporting trekking expeditions, providing the perfect place to rest before and after your climb. 🛏️🌿 . 🍴 Food Recommendations · You will be well-fed by your mountain crew during the trek, but once you return to town, treat yourself to some delicious Tanzanian *Ugali* served with grilled meat or fresh vegetables. It is the perfect reward after days of high-altitude exertion. 🥘🥩 . 📌 Pro Tips · Pole, Pole: This is the most important phrase you will learn, meaning "slowly, slowly." Climbing too fast is the biggest mistake; keeping a steady, slow pace is the best way to acclimatize and reach the top successfully. · Gear Matters: Don't underestimate the temperature difference. You will need high-quality layers, from lightweight hiking clothes to heavy-duty thermal gear for the summit night. · Choose a Licensed Operator: Your safety is paramount. Always book your trek with a reputable, licensed tour operator that prioritizes the health of its climbers and the welfare of its porters and guides. 📸🎒 . #Kilimanjaro #TanzaniaTravel #VisitTanzania #TravelDeep #RoofOfAfrica #HikingAdventures #MountainClimbing #BucketList #ExploreTanzania #AdventureTravel

📍 Location & Transport My trip to Tanzania started with a flight from London to Dar Salam. From there we took a domestic flight to Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s safari parks. From there we began a three-day safari adventure with a driver and private chef. The journey took us through the spectacular Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the legendary Serengeti National Park, sleeping in tented camps surrounded by nature. The final stop of the trip was Dar es Salaam, reached by a short internal flight. We spent two days there exploring the coastal city before returning to London. 🦓 Activities & Highlights The safari experience was the highlight of the trip. In Serengeti National Park, we saw incredible wildlife including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and countless antelopes roaming freely across the savannah. The landscape is vast and dramatic, especially at sunrise when the plains are filled with golden light. The Ngorongoro Crater felt like a natural wildlife amphitheatre. Descending into the crater was unforgettable, with animals visible in every direction and an extraordinary sense of untouched wilderness. Sleeping in tents inside the parks made the experience even more immersive; at night you could hear distant animal calls echoing across the plains. Meanwhile Dar es Salaam offered a more urban atmosphere, with local markets, seafood restaurants and views of the Indian Ocean. 🍽 Food & Accommodation Having a private chef during the safari made the experience surprisingly comfortable, with freshly prepared meals even in the middle of the wilderness. In coastal areas like Dar es Salaam, seafood is a must-try. Grilled fish, octopus and local spices reflect the strong Swahili and Indian Ocean culinary influences. 💡 Travel Tips · Domestic flights are the easiest way to move between Arusha and Dar es Salaam. · A guided safari with driver and chef makes logistics much easier and allows you to focus entirely on wildlife and landscapes. · Early mornings during safari offer the best chances to see predators active. #tanzaniatravel #serengetisafari #africasafari #wildlifeadventure #exploretanzania #bucketlisttravel #safariexperience #ngorongorocrater

after our struggle but worth hiking experience at Kilimanjaro peak, we decided for a safari adventure at The Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is a protected 8292km area and labelled as a UNESCO World Heritage Site The main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. we thought it was a very expansive area where Masaai people and wildlifes live harmonily. Personally, i like Ngorongoro because we see more animals, faunas and wildlifes here. they are everywhere. we had the best guide Anthony who drove us around this area on jeep. #safari #wildlifes #wildlifepark

Day 2 Safari: still at Ngorongoro Conservation Area after the tour with the cool Masaai peeps, we continue to hunt for the Big 5. which is the most wanted animals people looking for are looking for in safari. They are lion, elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo & leopard. we excited to spot simba, angry buffalo, leopard hanging on the trer & elephants looking for foodz unfortunately, rhino was nowhere to be found. borengggg we saw abundance of zebras, impala & hyena! we had the feeling of Lion King set #travel3sixty #thebigfivesafari #safari #ngorongoroconservationarea #ngorongoro #tanzania #eastafrica #africa

We want to commend RA Safari for such a transformative adventure! We just returned from a personalized 23-day safari across Kenya and Tanzania, organized by RA Safari. During the trip, we experienced the big five multiple times in the Maasai Mara and northern/central Serengeti, witnessed the wildebeest crossing the Mara River, saw pink flamingos and rhinos at Lake Nakuru, got close to hippos at Lake Naivasha, and watched Jane Goodall’s chimps at Gombe. We wrapped up with a “blue safari” in Zanzibar, swimming with dolphins in Nungwi. Truly AMAZING! On our first night in Nairobi, Zeph (the owner) and his son greeted us warmly with traditional Maasai blankets and attire. At the Kenya-Tanzania border, Eric (the coordinator) and his team assisted us through customs, vaccination verification, and Tanzania insurance checks, flawlessly guiding us through the multiple queues. Eric and our driver transported us to our hotel, where Zeph and our new guide joined us for breakfast the next morning. Upon arriving in Zanzibar, RA representative Misamidi constantly checked in with us and met us multiple times to ensure we were cared for. RA Safari ensured we never felt lost. Our guides were exceptional. Dunkin led us through Kenya and was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. He uncovered spots in the Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru that felt secluded and even arranged an impromptu boat ride on Lake Naivasha, which wasn’t part of the original itinerary. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the wildlife and local culture during the boat trip. Our second main guide, Johnson, was our expert in Tanzania for seven days. He passionately taught us about the animals, culture, and history, and his enthusiasm made every moment memorable. It was clear that both our main and supporting guides loved their jobs and were proud of their countries, ensuring we embraced every aspect of the safari. Zeph and Eric meticulously planned everything, from lodgings with unique settings—like bush tents surrounded by roaming animals, treehouse tents, historic hotels, and upscale resort accommodations—to delicious meals, comfortable beds, hot showers, and toilets. Many places offered breathtaking views and stunning sunrises/sunsets. The trip highlights included witnessing the wildebeest crossing at the Mara, seeing 75-100 elephants cross right before our jeep in Amboseli, the serene boat ride on Lake Naivasha, incredible close encounters with cats like a pride of 24+ in the Serengeti, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins, and relaxing beach time in Nungwi, Zanzibar. It was all incredible and profoundly life-changing. Asante sanas! 😊

We have nothing but praise for Duma Explorer / Alika Travels! Everything was seamlessly organized from beginning to end, and with all the detailed information we received beforehand, we felt fully prepared for the journey. Climbing Kilimanjaro was an experience of a lifetime, but it was the extraordinary crew that truly made it exceptional! They were not only highly professional but also warm, kind, approachable, and genuinely caring. Thanks to them, we didn't just climb a mountain — we learned so much about Tanzania, its people, and its culture. The entire journey felt safe and comfortable; we shared countless laughs and created timeless memories that we will treasure forever. A heartfelt thank you to our fantastic guides, Emanuel and Ernesto, who will always hold a special place in our hearts! ❤️ A special shout-out to Kilonso for helping us reach the summit, our ever-cheerful waiter Herman, and our talented cook Jamal, who spoiled us with delicious meals and his absolutely amazing pancakes! And a huge thanks to every other crew member who made this adventure unforgettable. What a phenomenal group of individuals! We came to Tanzania to conquer Kilimanjaro but are leaving with so much more than just a memory of the summit. Asante sana for everything! ❤️🇹🇿

Samora Lodge was a delightful spot to kick off our safari vacation. The grounds and rooms were beautiful. Situated in a serene neighborhood away from the busy city of Arusha, the location offered tranquility. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and delivered outstanding service. Highly recommend Samora Lodge, unless you're looking for something closer to the city center.

The Victory Safari was truly an unforgettable experience packed with adventure, excitement, and lasting memories. From the moment we stepped into the wilderness, we were surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes and incredible wildlife. We encountered majestic lions, elegant giraffes, lively monkeys, and impressive herds of elephants in their natural environment. The serene atmosphere, crisp air, and stunning views elevated every moment. Our guides were both knowledgeable and warm, ensuring the journey was safe and informative. This safari deepened our appreciation for nature and wildlife, leaving us with cherished memories to hold onto forever.

I recently came back from a safari organized by Trailfinders and managed by Ranger Safaris, and I can sincerely say it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. We stayed at four different accommodations ranging from fantastic lodges with swimming pools to a tent in the Serengeti. That tent, in particular, stood out for its authenticity—complete with bucket showers, a large double bed, and waking up to see a herd of zebras strolling by as we unzipped the tent. Our driver and guide, Geoff, was phenomenal. He possessed extensive knowledge of the countryside, local customs, and, most importantly, the animals and birds. Whenever we spotted something, Geoff would go out of his way to position our jeep perfectly for photos. The four parks we visited offered diverse landscapes—from open plains to jungle-like environments with monkeys and vibrant birds. Our last stop, Ngorongoro Crater, was awe-inspiring in terms of wildlife, though it’s worth noting that the high number of vehicles made it quite busy. Nevertheless, that didn’t diminish the remarkable amount of wildlife we encountered. It was an unforgettable trip filled with wonderful memories, all thanks to Geoff, our outstanding guide. 👍

Our guide Meshak took us on a day trip from our hotel in Arusha to the crater! The car was comfortable and well-equipped for the long journey. We managed to see 4 out of the Big 5, with the elusive leopard being the only one missing. The black rhino sightings were especially fantastic. I was also very impressed with the lunch provided; it was much nicer compared to other tour companies we saw nearby. The wildlife was abundant, and Meshak was very accommodating, even stopping by a gift shop afterward for souvenirs and beer—a perfect finish to a long day of safari. Overall, a great experience that I would highly recommend!

We recently had the most amazing adventure visiting Tarangire NP, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater, guided by the incredibly knowledgeable Salvatore (Salva). Throughout the journey, we felt completely safe under his skillful navigation across the parks' bumpy and dusty roads. His remarkable understanding of wildlife and bird species truly impressed us. Salva consistently positioned us perfectly for the best views. Witnessing the Big 5 in one day at Ngorongoro Crater was an unforgettable highlight, and spotting a leopard on our way out of the reserve was an incredible bonus!

We shared our safari with three groups, each having different expectations and varying levels of safari experience. Boniface (Boni) was patient and considerate throughout, making every effort to ensure everyone felt included and fully enjoyed their time. His expertise and experience made a significant difference, helping us understand the wildlife and truly appreciate what we saw. His enthusiasm made each sighting feel extraordinary, and it was clear how much he cared about providing the best possible experience. A safari is something you anticipate for so long, and the guide becomes a major part of those cherished memories. We’re so grateful Boni was part of ours. Thank you for your kindness, patience, and dedication!

My friends and I just had the most incredible time in Tanzania. We did a five-day safari, starting with a day in Tarangire, then two days in Serengeti, and finishing at Ngorongoro. We were incredibly fortunate to see the Big Five, all thanks to our amazing driver, Kelvin Kanankira. He gave us the most exceptional experience we could ever imagine! Kelvin was the perfect guide, driver, and companion we could have hoped for. Thank you so much, Kelvin, for all the unforgettable moments and memories. We will cherish this experience forever and never forget you! We hope to meet again!
