Fortunately, after a passing shower, we got some post-rain sunshine at dusk, and the coast even treated us to a double rainbow. It looked like the evening fireworks festival would go ahead as planned. We checked into Rakuten Stay Atami. Our room was on a lower floor with a large balcony facing the breakwater, though it wasn't exactly in the front row by the sea. Initially, I was worried that the buildings ahead might block our view of the fireworks, but they test-fired a few around 6 PM, and they were perfectly in our direct line of sight from the balcony. And so, we watched the fireworks going off about 500 meters away from our balcony. Even though we weren't as close as we would be on the shore, the impact was still mind-blowing. At an elevation of about 770 meters, the most amazing part about the summit isn't just Mount Fuji— it's the breathtaking, unobstructed 360° panoramic view you can enjoy from up here 👀 On a clear day, you can spot Mount Fuji to the north 🗻 Suruga Bay to the west, and Sagami Bay to the east. In the distance, you can even catch a glimpse of the Boso Peninsula, the Miura Peninsula, and the Izu Islands. As for the origin of the name "Jukkokutoge," in the old days, standing on this mountain allowed you to overlook Izu, Suruga, Totomi, Kai, Shinano, Sagami, Musashi, Kazusa, Shimosa, and Awa. These were known as the "Ten Provinces," which is exactly how Jukkokutoge got its name. It's actually been a renowned observation spot for a very long time. Back in the Edo period, people would travel here specifically to paint the landscape, and even Katsushika Hokusai depicted the scenery of Mount Higane in his artwork 🎨 Nowadays, you can hop on the Jukkokutoge Cable Car and ride straight from the base of the mountain up to PANORAMA TERRACE 1059 at the summit. No need for an exhausting, soul-crushing hike 😂 you can head straight up and soak in the magnificent skyline views. If you're lucky enough to have great weather with Mount Fuji making an appearance, you won't be able to stop snapping away with your camera 📸🗻 Just a quick heads-up, though: the current cable car at Jukkokutoge is scheduled to be replaced by a new "Slope Car" in the summer of 2027. Paired with the fluffy bread, it's absolutely delicious ✨ 📍 Irori Chaya Located less than a 5-minute walk from the station, this Japanese restaurant offers delicious seafood from Izu and Atami prepared in various ways. The interior is spacious with a calm atmosphere, making it a very comfortable place to dine. While they offer a wide variety of dishes like sashimi and fried seafood, this time I went with the 3-piece dried fish set meal and treated myself to the simmered Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino). The meat was so plump and satisfying—it was simply the best! 📍 Atami Yogurt Their "Drinkable Atami Yogurt" has the perfect, exquisite thickness that lands exactly right between "eating" and "drinking"! I had it on my first day while exploring the town, and it was so good that I went back to buy more the very next day! Since it requires refrigeration, you can only enjoy it locally or by ordering online, so I highly recommend grabbing one when you visit Atami! Be sure to keep an eye out for their seasonal fruit flavors, too ✨ (I visited in July and tried the peach yogurt drink.) 📍 Kinomiya Shrine When it comes to famous shrines in Atami, this is the one ⛩️ It's renowned for its sacred tree, which is over 2,000 years old, and it has long been worshipped as a power spot and deity of good fortune and luck! Legend has it that your wish will come true if you make it while walking counterclockwise around the sacred tree. The shrine grounds also feature some stylish cafes where you can relax. It's just one stop away from Atami Station, but I definitely recommend making the short trip out there!

The interior really looks just like a traditional Japanese bathhouse~~ If you dine in, they serve your order in a small wooden basin typically used for Japanese baths. It's incredibly cute! The puddings come in several flavors, but I personally think the original one is the best~ I absolutely love this rich, mousse-like texture!! The coffee milk has a very classic, nostalgic Japanese vibe! The bottle is super cute and perfectly sized to hold and drink on the go! A highly recommended hot spring inn for your Atami trip♨️ Let me show you the ocean view room I stayed in at Atami Fuga!
