Big cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York never made my list, and I never planned to explore Seattle thoroughly. I only saw it as a gateway to Alaska, a stopover for Mount Rainier and Olympic National Park. Unexpectedly, having no expectations often brings surprises. The calm, artistic, and joyful vibe here really attracts me. Los Angeles attractions are too spread out, San Francisco’s hills are exhausting, but Seattle’s nature is right in the city. Just look up and you see the bay, the harbor, and ferries. You can walk to many places. Today’s itinerary was all on foot: from Pike Place Market to the glass museum, then to the Space Needle, and back to Pike Place Market and the waterfront Ferris wheel. Along the way, art and modern architecture blend with nature and daily life. Pike Place Market buzzes with life. At the fish market, vendors’ shouts, fish-throwing shows, laughter, and the scent of seafood mix together; the aroma from coffee shops is warm and relaxing. Stepping out of the market, there’s the vast bay. Ferries glide slowly by, the sky and water merge, and the distant city skyline unfolds quietly. Moving forward, the city streets are quiet, alternating between modern and artistic vibes. Inside the glass museum, light filters through colored glass, turning the whole space into a giant artwork. The garden at the museum entrance blooms like spring, perfectly blending flowers and glass art. Next, I went up the Space Needle. Sitting on the rotating glass floor, I watched the streets, market, and bay I had just walked through unfold 360 degrees before me. Looking east, the distant mountains are faintly visible. Where is Mount Rainier? I’m not sure, but I know it adds grandeur and majesty to the city. Looking west, Puget Sound spreads out with the sea, ferries, islands, and harbor weaving a peaceful, expansive scene under the bright sun. Finally, I strolled back to Pike Place Market for dinner, then waited for the sunset by the waterfront below the market. There were many lounge chairs, and I lay on one. Few people were around; everyone quietly waited. One end faced the Ferris wheel, the other the sunset. Watching the Ferris wheel turn slowly, the sun inch closer to the water, and the light gradually change the city’s colors, I remembered all the maple trees I had seen along the way. I’m already imagining coming back next fall when the city is dyed red with maple leaves. How gentle will this city, embraced by the bay, forests, and mountains, look then?

There are many free public parking lots nearby. Then start the seaside walk! There are lots of little seal sculptures. The one on page 3 lying on the stairs is really cute and thoughtful. Not far from the seaside is Main Street. The street is very clean, quite suitable for a slow city walk when the weather isn’t too hot. The familiar layout of souvenir shops, trinkets, and boutique bookstores. Found some cute little things that, as always, look like they came from Yiwu. 📍 Teri's Toybox A well-stocked Jellycat toy store. The rare dachshund shoulder bag appeared. I really like this sad face… Also, the World Cup soccer stock is moving fast! Plus a few inexplicable plush rings (?) that are super cute for photos. Really regret not eating a lobster roll at MARKET Seafood Eatery and instead choosing a bar. Pike Place Market and Waterfront 🧡🧡🧡🧡 (p1-4) The liveliest spot in Seattle. The world's first Starbucks: It was incredibly crowded during the World Cup. We arrived at 1 PM and were told we could only enter at 6 PM. So, we went out to explore and returned later. Bought some mugs, badges, and fridge magnets as souvenirs. Robot vs Sloth fridge magnet shop: Magnets are priced at $8, and badges at $15, which is pricier than Starbucks. Ended up buying just one magnet—it’s adorable. Ferris Wheel: Walking from Pike Place Market to the waterfront, you’ll pass by the Ferris Wheel and the rooftop of the aquarium. The views are stunning. Brainbridge Ferry 💙💙💙💙💙 (p5-9) Head to the Bainbridge Island Ferry terminal to buy tickets. The ferry ride takes about half an hour one way. Once on the island, you can stroll around before heading back. The seats on the ferry are very comfortable, and the deck offers fantastic views of the city skyline—perfect for photos. There are puzzles on the tables to pass the time. The gentle rocking of the boat makes it a great place to nap, arguably more enjoyable than sitting in a coffee shop. We visited in the afternoon and didn’t go to the manor, just wandered around the streets. There’s a supermarket called Town & Country Market Bainbridge. The fruits on the island are incredibly fresh—I had the best cherries of my life here, possibly 4J quality, and only $8 for a big bag. Kerry Park 🤍🤍🤍 (p10-12) Why is this called a park? It’s just a roadside hill with an activity area the size of a parking lot. While you can get a good shot of the Space Needle here, I think the views from the ferry are just as nice. Took a cab here for $30, snapped a photo in 2 minutes, and left because I didn’t want to stand in the wind. Another $30 for the ride back. University of Washington 🩵🩵🩵🩵 (p13-15) The library is truly stunning—it feels like stepping into Harry Potter. Didn’t want to disturb the students, so I quickly took a photo and left. The fountain is beautiful, but it was a cloudy day, so I couldn’t see the snow-capped mountains. Stopped by a nearby Trader Joe’s to buy some souvenirs but couldn’t find any tote bags. Chinatown 🍲🍲🍲🍲🍲 After days of Western food, I was craving something different and headed to Chinatown. Had the best meal of the trip at Happy Lamb Hot Pot! It’s incredibly authentic.
