Baishui travel guide and discussion

The key is to avoid paying for tea, charging, or tickets just because you're too shy to ask 😏 10 things you can get for free in China. For search: free — free — 免费 I’m used to travel money vanishing just by looking at a station vending machine. But in China, many useful things are actually available for free—if you know where to look and what to ask. 1. Hot Water — 开水 / 热水 At train stations, airports, and some public buildings, there are hot water dispensers. Bring a thermos or a mug, as disposable cups aren't always provided. Look for the sign 小心烫, which means "caution, hot" ♨️ 2. Public Toilets — 公共厕所 They are free in most cities. Search for 公共厕所 or 卫生间. Toilet paper isn't always available, so keeping tissues in your bag is a small investment in your emotional peace of mind. 3. State Museums — 公共博物馆 Many museums are free to visit, but they require a booking: Free Reservation — 免费预约. You usually need a passport, and bookings are made through the museum's official WeChat account. "Free" here doesn't mean "just walk in and smile nicely" 🏛️ 4. City Parks — 城市公园 Regular parks, walking areas, and green zones are often open for free. Use 公园 (park) or 免费开放 (free admission) to find them. Note that rides or specific pavilions inside might still charge a fee. 5. Riverside Viewpoints — 免费观景台 Look for: City Terrace — 城市阳台 Riverside Park — 江滩公园 Viewing Platform — 观景台 Sometimes the best view of a paid attraction is from the free bank across the river. China knows how to do financial irony 🌉 6. Hotel Luggage Storage — 酒店行李寄存 Many hotels store guests' bags for free before check-in or after check-out. Ask: Can I store my luggage for free? 可以免费寄存行李吗? Storage at train stations and private lockers usually costs money. 7. Water or Tea in Restaurants — 白开水 / 茶水 In many simple eateries, hot water or basic tea is provided for free, but not everywhere. Clarify: Is this free? 这个免费吗? Because that teapot on the table might not be hospitality—it could be a paid plot twist 🍵 8. Charging Outlets — 充电插座 Free outlets can be found on high-speed trains, at stations, airports, and in libraries. Look for 免费充电 (free charging). However, rental power banks (共享充电宝) are not free and can sometimes be as pricey as a good restaurant meal. 9. Tourist Assistance and Maps — 旅游咨询 At Tourist Service Centers (游客服务中心), you can get free info on routes, transport, and schedules. Sometimes they provide paper maps: Free Tourist Map — 免费旅游地图. 10. Free Samples — 免费试吃 / 免费试喝 At food markets, tea exhibitions, and some shops, you can sample food or tea. 试吃 means "try food," and 试喝 means "try a drink." Remember, it’s a tasting, not an all-you-can-eat buffet—stay classy 😄 My go-to Chinese "spell": 这个免费吗? Is this free? This one short question helps you get useful services without finding surprise charges for tea on your bill. In China, many things are free—except for tourist carelessness ❤️

If you're planning a trip to Shangri-La, be sure to schedule a visit to two breathtaking natural locations. These are places of pristine beauty, the power of water, and unique geological landscapes. 1. Tiger Leaping Gorge · English: Tiger Leaping Gorge | Chinese: 跳虎峡 (Tiàohǔ Xiá) This is one of the deepest and most spectacular river gorges in the world, located on the Jinsha River (upper reaches of the Yangtze River). · Impressive facts and history: The gorge is sandwiched between two monumental mountain ranges—Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong) and Haba Snow Mountain. The elevation difference from the mountain peaks to the raging river is approximately 3,900 meters! According to an ancient local legend, a tiger pursued by hunters was able to leap across the river at the narrowest point of the gorge (only about 25 meters) by jumping off a huge boulder in the middle of the roaring torrent. This stone still lies in the riverbed and is called "Tiger Leaping Stone." · Why visit: To experience the incredible, pristine power of nature. The roar of the raging water here is so loud that it drowns out any voices. Travelers can enjoy comfortable and safe wooden viewing platforms directly above the roaring water, and for those who enjoy active recreation, one of the best trekking routes in Asia runs along the upper bed of the gorge. 2. Baishuitai Water Terraces · English: Baishuitai Water Terraces (White Water Terraces) | Chinese: 白水台 (Báishuǐtái) These fantastic cascading mineral pools, often called "China's Pamukkale," are located at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain. · Impressive facts and history: These dazzling white cascades took over 200,000–300,000 years to form. Calcium carbonate-rich spring water, flowing down the mountain slopes, left behind travertine deposits over centuries, which over time formed into perfect layered basins. For the local Naxi people, this place has deep historical and sacred significance: it was here that their ancient, distinctive Dongba culture originated, and the terraces themselves are considered a symbol of the harmony between man and nature. · Worth visiting for: To witness with your own eyes the surreal landscape, reminiscent of frozen ice fountains or multi-tiered white marble cascades filled with turquoise water. The sun's rays refract through the pools, creating a stunning palette of colors from azure to emerald. This is the perfect location for unique and aesthetically pleasing photographs, virtually unparalleled anywhere in the world. You can find a private driver and arrange a ride with one of them on the streets of the Old Town. They'll hand out their business cards there, and a full-day trip to both locations will cost approximately 100-150 RMB per person. Tickets can be purchased separately at the entrance to each location. 🎫 Tiger Gorge - entrance 45 RMB 🎫 White Terraces - entrance 30 RMB Alternatively, you can book a package tour through an agency, which will cost 300-400 RMB per person and include a group trip in a minivan. Or, you can book a full-day transfer at your hotel reception for 200 yuan and pay for tickets at the entrance. #shangrila #tigerleapinggorge #baishubai #travelchina #traveltibet #tibetmountains

Chenzhou Wugaishan Rime + Hemei Yuemian Hotel Ultimate Guide ❄️ As soon as the cold snap passed, I couldn't resist embarking on a date with the southern rime! 1.5 hours from Chenzhou city center, enter the ice and snow wonderland of Wugaishan at an altitude of 1600 meters. During the day, take stunning photos among the jade trees and crystal branches, and at night, stay in the incredibly cost-effective Hemei Yuemian Hotel. This spontaneous winter trip was absolutely breathtaking~ 🌨️ Wugaishan Rime: A Southern Fairytale for Free As a limited-time winter spectacle in Chenzhou, Wugaishan gets its name from being perpetually covered by "frost, snow, clouds, fog, and dew." Its 99.35% forest coverage makes it an ice and snow world bursting with negative oxygen ions. Choosing the right time is crucial! It's recommended to depart on a clear morning 1-2 days after a cold snap moves south. At this time, the rime is at its fullest, and the sunlight sparkles on the ice crystals, as if you've entered a fairytale wonderland. 📸 Photo Guide (Proven to produce great shots): · Wear bright colored jackets like red or ginger yellow, creating a strong contrast with the pure white rime, making every casual shot a visual focal point. · The best shooting time is 7-9 AM. Side lighting or backlighting can highlight the crystalline texture of the rime. Remember to focus your phone and then swipe up to increase exposure compensation (+1 to +2 stops) to make the snow appear perfectly white. · Key photo spots: Take silhouette shots walking on the mountain boardwalk, and capture the sea of clouds and rime together from the observation deck. For detail-oriented photographers, don't miss the branches covered in icicles and the tiny footprints in the snow. ⚠️ Practical Tips: · The temperature at the summit is around 0℃, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes, scarves, and gloves to stay warm and prevent slipping. · Self-driving is recommended. Navigate to "Wugaishan International Forest Resort." The mountain roads have many curves, so drive slowly. Public transportation is less convenient. · The entire area is free to enter, no tickets required. 2.5 hours is just right for viewing the rime, not too tiring. 🏨 Hemei Yuemian Hotel: A Warm Haven on Your Journey After enjoying the rime and descending the mountain, nothing beats staying in a warm and comfortable hotel! Choosing Hemei Yuemian Hotel was definitely the right decision. Its 4.6-star high rating is well-deserved, offering incredible value for money~ 📍 Excellent Location: The hotel is located at No. 46 Nanling Avenue, Beihu District (next to Beihu District Government), only 2.4 kilometers from Wuling Square. You can wash and dry your dirty jackets from hiking, ready for a fresh return journey the next day. In the picturesque landscape of Guizhou, I found a poetic retreat called "Yuanfu Xiadu." It is not just a guesthouse but more like an art gallery suspended above the canyon, perfectly blending the grandeur of the Baling River with Eastern Zen, each frame so beautiful it inspires poetry. Location and Transportation: The guesthouse is located in Baishui Town within the Huangguoshu Tourist Area, boasting an excellent geographical position. It is only a 20-minute drive from the Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area. Self-driving navigation is very convenient, and the guesthouse also offers shuttle services (advance contact with the housekeeper required). It takes about 1.5 hours from Guiyang Airport or the high-speed rail station, making transportation easy and hassle-free. Design Style and Rooms: The design concept of the guesthouse is truly stunning. Built on the edge of a cliff, it cleverly integrates the architecture into the mountain, preserving the spatial texture of the local village. There are only 12 rooms, each offering an exceptional view. The room I stayed in was equipped with an oversized bathtub and a viewing terrace, with the roaring Dishuitan Waterfall and the majestic Baling River Bridge right outside the window. The room features a natural wood style, paired with high-end amenities like a Dyson hairdryer and smart toilet, providing privacy and luxury. Lying in bed feels like being deep inside a landscape painting. Intangible Cultural Heritage Handicraft Experience: Here, you can not only enjoy the scenery but also touch culture with your own hands. The guesthouse regularly hosts intangible cultural heritage batik dyeing workshops, with Buyei artisans providing on-site guidance. Even beginners can create unique handmade pieces to take home, which is more meaningful than any souvenir. Hot Spring Pools and Infinity Pool: The public area design is absolutely amazing! The cliffside infinity pool is a perfect photo spot, with the blue water blending seamlessly into the canyon clouds behind it—every shot looks like a masterpiece. You can swim in summer and soak in the hot spring pool under the starry sky in winter, listening to the roar of the waterfall and feeling the healing power of nature. Dining and Housekeeping Service: Dining is another highlight. The guesthouse offers customized meal packages, from authentic Anshun silk rolls to exquisite farmhouse dishes, letting your taste buds savor the gifts of the mountains and fields. The housekeeping service is extremely thoughtful, from itinerary planning to late-night goodnight soup, every detail makes you feel warm and truly at home. If you want to find a hidden place near Huangguoshu where you can enjoy stunning views and luxurious comfort, Yuanfu Xiadu is definitely worth a try! 🏠 Huangguoshu Yuanfu·Xiadu Boutique Guesthouse [RoundNails] Manzhai Village, Baishui Town, Huangguoshu Tourist Area, Guanling, 500 meters west of the Baling River Bridge Education Center on Huruixian Road

Behind Yingzhi's hometown is a mountain called Qishan. As a child, I was very curious about what was on the other side of the mountain. Later, after climbing to the summit, I found that the mountains continued endlessly, vast and flat, with an elevation of over a thousand meters. It is a typical high mountain area, equivalent to a "Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau" in the northern Sichuan mountainous region. The mountain originally had villages such as Zaolin, Yonghe, and Motan. Climbing from Qishan towards Zaolin Township, you ascend the Cramp Slope, passing through Bainiya, Xianrenyan (Immortal Rock), Fotai Ping, Sacred Stone, Diaoma Rock, and finally reaching Cizhuya, forming an east-west trending fault zone with strange peaks, hanging cliffs, beautiful forest mists, and magnificent scenery. On the ridge between Fotai Ping and Diaoma Rock, there are natural wonders known as the Sacred Stone, Sacred Frog, and Sacred Water, collectively called the Three Sacred Blessings. In recent years, a man named Zeng Xingan retired and invested in developing the "Three Sacred Blessings" scenic area. A trail was opened along the ridge, with plank roads and suspension bridges built along the way, creating a free tourist attraction. On February 17, 2026, Yingzhi visited the Three Sacred Blessings. The mountain is high and the road is long, with no signs along the way. Asking for directions and stopping frequently, I finally saw the Sacred Stone and the surrounding scenery. If time permits, you can park your car at Zaolin Tea House, walk along the road to the Three Sacred Blessings scenic area, then return along the ridge trail towards Diaoma Rock back to the tea house, forming a perfect loop. At the entrance, there is a stone half-buried in the ground, with the exposed part resembling a frog sitting alone looking at the sky, known as the Sacred Frog. On a nearby stone, the words "Three Sacred Blessings" are inscribed, with the Sacred Frog welcoming visitors. Below the nearby cliff is a well where water seeps from the rock crevices, never drying up throughout the year, called the Sacred Water. It is said that drinking this sacred water brings health and safety, so villagers often come to drink it seeking protection. However, with fewer people in the mountains now, the well is covered with fallen leaves and no longer holds the old legends. Among the trees on the ridge stands a solitary stone with a majestic aura, surrounded by local mystical legends, known as the Sacred Stone. The top of the stone is flat, and there used to be a wooden ladder to climb and play on top, offering a panoramic view of the endless mountain mists. Unfortunately, the wooden ladder has rotted and is no longer climbable; only drones can capture the flat top of the stone. The Sacred Stone holds a sacred place in the hearts of locals, many of whom support the rock with firewood. It is said that this way, both ends rely on the mountain, called "leaning on the mountain," also known as standing tall and firm. There is also a folk legend that people with back pain can relieve it by supporting the rock with firewood or stones, a magical hope and spiritual comfort. The east-west ridge line undulates endlessly. From the Three Sacred Blessings towards Diaoma Rock, you can enjoy the scenery along the trail, a great place for leisure and fitness. Yingzhi’s trip also included a visit to Xianrenyan. On the northern ridge of Bainiya, between red hanging cliffs and sheer walls, there is a natural horizontal crack forming a unique aerial corridor resembling an eagle’s path. Carvings of Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) are on the cliff walls, so it is called Xianrenyan or Guanyin Rock. When Yingzhi was in fourth grade at Guihua Primary School, the school organized a spring outing to Xianrenyan, making it Yingzhi’s first travel destination. Returning to this place brought mixed emotions. To the north of the Three Sacred Blessings ridge is a cliff, with Yangjiapo and Sujiapo villages below. Across the valley are Moujiapo and Yangjiapo, offering a broad view. To the south of the ridge is a gently rolling vast hilly forest landscape. The original Zaolin Township of Wangcang County is located here, with people living high in the mountains. When Yingzhi was in ninth grade at Zhanghua, a classmate named Jiang Yongyuan was from Zaolin Township. Yingzhi once visited his home but now does not know the exact location. Back then, walking from Zhanghua School, passing Jiutai Village and crossing Zhangkoushi, though the road was long and difficult, the journey was joyful with company. Jiang Yongyuan’s older brother was the first university graduate from Zaolin Township, working at the Sichuan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and he had a beautiful younger sister in middle school. After graduating from middle school, they never met again, and their current situation is unknown. Nearby Leyuan Reservoir is a typical high mountain reservoir, with valleys crisscrossing the mountains and winding waterways that seem endless. From a high altitude, it looks like tree branches with many forks. It is located at the junction of Longwang Town in Cangxi County, Motan Town in Zhaohua District, and Zhanghua and Baishui Towns in Wangcang County. Walking around the reservoir would take several days without stopping. The mountaintop reservoir, with its lake and mountain scenery, sits high on the mountain like a heavenly pool and could be developed into a tourist scenic area.

Lin'gao Slow City is a land where time gently decelerates. Upon entering the scenic area, you are greeted by lush green rice fields interwoven with winding paths, babbling streams, and the faint sounds of chickens and dogs. Here, there is no urban clamor, only the fresh scent of the fields and the whispers of the wind. I rented a bicycle and rode along the lake, flanked by weeping willows swaying gently. In the distance, smoke curled up from small cottages, creating a scene reminiscent of a utopia. At a lakeside teahouse, a cup of tea and a moment of tranquility allowed time to flow slowly through my fingers. The sunset painted the water's surface red, and the evening breeze carried the fragrance of rice blossoms, as if even my heartbeat had slowed. Lin'gao Slow City teaches you to let go and rediscover the most genuine sounds of life.

“Qingming Festival to worship the Yellow Emperor, Grain Rain Festival to worship Cangjie.” Legend has it that after Cangjie invented Chinese characters, “millet rained from the sky, and ghosts cried at night.” This is because the invention of writing changed the way humans recorded events, heralding the progress of civilization. The Cangjie Tomb and Temple in Baishui County, Weinan City, is home to ancient cypress trees, which, along with the ancient cypress trees at the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum in Shaanxi and the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong, are known as the “Three Great Ancient Temple Cypress Groves of China.” They have high historical and cultural value.

To understand the progenitor of culture, it has to be our Shaanxi... The historical and cultural heritage is so profound! A few days ago, I visited the Cangjie Temple in Baishui, strolling around, naturally immersing myself, feeling the sediment of history, as if every breath was filled with the flavor of culture. ⛩•••There are more than 40 Cangjie Temples nationwide, and the Cangjie Temple in Baishui, Shaanxi, has a long history and is very famous! Although the temple complex is not large, its content is very rich, integrating temple, tomb, stele, and cypress into one, and it is a 3A-level scenic spot. 🌲•••The current buildings in the temple are mainly from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The most impressive sight in the temple is the ancient cypress grove with more than 40 trees – each cypress here has a history of two to three thousand years, the longest average lifespan in the country! The cypress planted by Cangjie himself in the Cangjie Temple has been around for more than 5000 years – it is known as a living green national treasure. It is said that there are only five ancient trees over 5000 years old in the whole country, and all of them are in Shaanxi! 📷··Taking photos under the ancient cypress trees is very photogenic, regret not bringing a camera (a camera would add more texture and atmosphere). Of course, it's also suitable for children's study tours – it's said that the pictographic stone carvings on the temple are Cangjie's own handwriting from those years, which is very interesting! The new stele's inscriptions can be guessed by looking at the pictures with the kids, and then explained, enhancing the children's interest in Chinese characters! Baishui also has a super cost-effective amusement park for parents and children 🎠, perfect for a weekend day trip!
