The Saihanba guide everyone is asking about! 2-day, 1-night classic itinerary, no backtracking
Saihanba in Chengde is absolutely breathtaking 😭 This forest and grassland area is incredible. I've put together a super practical 2-day, 1-night itinerary that I've personally tested—no traps here 👇
I. Basic park information (Bashang Forest and Grassland, Chengde, Hebei)
📍Full name: Saihanba National Forest Park (5A, million-acre man-made forest)
📍Address: Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm, Weichang Manchu and Mongol Autonomous County, Chengde
⏰Open: Open for self-driving entry 24/7, open for sightseeing 24/7; open year-round, peak season June–October
🎫Ticket policy (must-read, no individual tickets)
1. Joint ticket CNY 130 (Saihanba + Yudaokou, valid for 3 days, valid for self-driving)
2. Including Hongsongwa Nature Reserve: Joint ticket CNY 150
3. Discounts: Free admission for seniors 65+, military personnel, and people with disabilities; half-price for students; free for children under 1.2m
✅Important reminder: There are no sightseeing shuttles in the park. You must drive or charter a car. Private cars can be driven to all attractions
II. Transportation guide (only suitable for self-driving, public transport is extremely inconvenient)
1. Self-driving (recommended)
· From Beijing: Approx. 6–7 hours; navigate to Weichang North highway exit, do not take Weichang South to avoid mountain roads
· Entering the park: Take the Qisai Line directly to the Mechanical Forest Farm (accommodation hub)
· Parking: Free parking at all hotels in the forest farm town; free roadside parking at all attractions
2. Public transport (not recommended)
High-speed train to Siheyong Station → taxi to Weichang County → shuttle bus to the Mechanical Forest Farm; once there, you can only charter a car to get around, which is very expensive
III. Accommodation recommendations (stay in the Mechanical Forest Farm for a central location)

✅Highlights: Yurts with private bathrooms and floor heating; Mongolian costumes available for photos, bonfire every night; owner helps plan itineraries; high cost-performance, suitable for couples and families looking for a unique stay

VI. Best travel season & clothing guide
1. July–August (summer retreat): Average temperature 15–25℃, lush green grasslands and dense forests, top choice for escaping the heat; huge temperature difference between day and night, short sleeves during the day, must wear a light down jacket/windbreaker in the morning and evening
2. Mid-September–early October (peak autumn): Forests painted in layers of color, golden birch + red pine forests, golden period for photography, fewer crowds and beautiful scenery
3. Clothing requirements:
· All-season essentials: Windproof jacket, long pants, hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen (UV rays are very strong)
· Autumn: Long johns + thick jacket; temperatures near 0℃ at night
· Rain gear: Weather on the Bashang plateau is changeable, always carry a raincoat
VII. Practical tips to avoid pitfalls
1. Book tickets online in advance. Valid for 3 days. Tickets are checked repeatedly when entering/exiting the park, so keep them with you at all times. Do not buy tickets from scalpers on the roadside.
2. Prioritize booking in the Mechanical Forest Farm hub. It's central, with a 30-minute drive to both Saihanba and Yudaokou. Don't stay in outlying villages; you'll waste time traveling back and forth.
3. For dining, prioritize restaurants with group set meals and avoid small shops that solicit customers on the street. It's recommended to book roasted lamb leg in advance.
4. Self-driving note: Some sections of the Qisai Line are winding, so slow down. There are very few gas stations inside the park; fill up your tank before entering.
5. For horseback riding and off-road vehicles, agree on the full price beforehand to avoid mid-trip price hikes. Only choose legitimate stables.
6. Respect forest fire prevention regulations. Open flames are strictly prohibited in the forest area; bonfires are only allowed in designated hotel areas.
7. During peak season (summer vacation, National Day), book hotels at least 7 days in advance; rooms are hard to come by.

📌 **Tips:**
· The temperature difference between day and night is really big, remember to bring a jacket—don't ask me how I know 🥶
· Mosquito repellent and sunscreen are a must, don't underestimate the UV rays on the Bashang plateau!
· Self-driving is the most convenient; a car with higher ground clearance is safer.
Go for it, girls! Saihanba is worth the trip 💚
