If you are burned out on stressful travel schedules, crazy airport transfers, and constant planning, this place is the ultimate breather. Navigating around is almost ridiculously simple. The entire lake is wrapped in a flat 6-kilometer paved walkway, meaning you can just lace up your sneakers and stroll the whole loop at your own pace without ever getting lost or needing a car. I spent my first afternoon doing exactly that, stopping whenever I felt like sitting on a bench to watch the swans glide across the water. Everything here moves at a relaxed, blissful tempo. I took one of the traditional wooden pletna boats, hand-rowed by local oarsmen over to the tiny island sitting right in the middle of the lake. Very pretty lake. We only stayed one evening on our way South. The area was clean with space to sit and take in the views in spite of many tourists. We were impressed with how many outdoor activities were on offer, including hiking, biking and wild swimming. A local legend about a grieving widow and a sunken bell is a bit far fetched but the lake doesn't need a story to make you feel its charms.
