In the evening, Jindaiji Temple is A bit less crowded than during the day, Making it the perfect time to slowly take in the rustling of the trees and the scent of incense. Taking a leisurely walk along the temple approach, I enjoyed their famous soba noodles, And then explored the quiet temple grounds. Jindaiji Temple's "Ganzan Daishi Mikuji" is Famous for being the "origin of omikuji (fortune slips)". What's more, the omikuji here is Also known for yielding "a lot of bad luck (kyo)", So my heart was pounding a little the moment I drew it... When I gently opened it, To my surprise, the result was "Great Blessing (Daikichi)" ✨ The fresh greenery of May is also truly stunning, Making it a place where you just want to take a slow, deep breath. 🚩 Chofu The adventure begins the moment you step out of Chofu Station! Hunting for traces of Kitaro along the way. From the sidewalks and little parks to Tenjin-dori Shopping Street, there are surprising yokai statues everywhere: Kitaro, Medama Oyaji, Nezumi Otoko, Ittan Momen... and more! It feels like stepping into the yokai world created by Shigeru Mizuki. Little surprises are hidden around every corner, making it impossible not to stop and snap photos. It's just so cute~ 🚩 Ghibli Museum, Mitaka This was a highly anticipated part of the trip. I was so bummed about not getting tickets last year. Tried our luck grabbing tickets again this year—huge thanks to my awesome friends! 💪 From the very moment you walk through the doors, every stained glass window, mechanical contraption, and the Giant Warrior on the roof is brimming with endless imagination. The entire museum is packed with hidden details waiting to be discovered. My absolute favorite was the room showcasing the original sketches. Looking at those pencil strokes, that's where all the magic begins ahhhh~~~ After visiting the sketch room, my respect for Hayao Miyazaki's animated world grew even deeper. 🚩 Evening shopping at the arcade next to Kichijoji Station Stumbled upon Kamukura Ramen by chance. The broth was incredibly light and refreshing with plenty of veggies, what a pleasant surprise!!! (Already added to my go-to food list)

PokéPark KANTO: The world’s first Pokémon park, already sold out months ahead On February 5, 2026, PokéPark KANTO opened as the world’s first permanent outdoor Pokémon park. It’s located within Yomiuriland, an amusement park nestled in the Tama Hills in western Tokyo. Covering 2.6 hectares, the park is divided into two zones: Pokémon Forest—a 500-meter nature trail featuring over 600 Pokémon in recreated natural habitats—and Kayatsuri Town, a mini-city with a Pokémon Center, Gym, attractions, parades, and a Trainer’s Market. Tickets are selling like hotcakes. As of January, many dates through the end of March were already marked as "sold out." But don’t panic—read on for tips. Getting there: The gondola is key Yomiuriland (よみうりランド) 📍 4015-1 Yanokuchi, Inagi-shi, Tokyo (東京都稲城市矢野口4015-1) 🚇 25 minutes from Shinjuku to Keio-Yomiuriland Station (Keio Sagamihara Line) → Sky Shuttle gondola (~5 min, ¥300 one way) / Odakyu bus (~5 min) Yomiuriland is about 25 minutes from Shinjuku—take the Keio Sagamihara Line to Keio-Yomiuriland Station. Our advice: On weekdays or with kids, the gondola is delightful. On weekends during peak season, go straight for the bus—no hesitation. Both options take the same amount of time, but the bus skips the queue. Tickets: Three types, each offering different access Elite Trainer’s Pass: Adult from ¥14,000 / Child from ¥11,000. Squirtle by a small pond. Bulbasaur in fern thickets. Note: Due to the challenging terrain, children under 5 and their guardians cannot enter Pokémon Forest. For them, there’s Sedge Town. Sedge Town: When a Pokémon Center becomes real Sedge Town features a Trainers’ Market with exclusive merchandise, a Pokémon Center, Poké Mart, Primarina Fountain, and Sedge Gym with the Pika Pika Sparks! show several times a day. Sedge Town attractions: Pika Pika Paradise—a ride featuring Pikachu and over 30 Electric-types in the air. Vee Vee Voyage—a carousel with Eevee and Ponyta for the little ones. Both cost ¥1,200 for adults and ¥800 for children—purchase separately at the Trainer’s Market via mobile kiosk. At the Trainers’ Market, you’ll find hats, T-shirts, pins, and stickers. It seems he visited Fudatan Shrine during his stroll, and the entire area is dotted with things related to Gegege no Kitaro! #Japan Attractions After an interesting approach to the temple, you will arrive at Jindaiji Temple, which has a long history. It is the second most ancient temple in Tokyo after Sensoji Temple. The Sanmon Gate is the oldest existing building in Jindaiji Temple. The core of the temple, the Main Hall, houses a statue of Amitabha Buddha. It was originally burned down in a fire during the Edo period and was later rebuilt during the Taisho period. Lions, dragons and elephants are carved on the beams and pillars, and phoenixes are carved under the windshields, reflecting the architectural features of the Edo period. The Shakado Hall next to the main hall enshrines the Hakuho Buddha, a national treasure of Japan, and there is a fee for visiting. The Gensandaishi Hall houses a statue of Jikedaishi (Gensandaishi) from the Heian period, commemorating his achievements on Mount Hiei. We also saw two of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods, Daikokuten (the god of medicine and wealth who specializes in curing diseases) and Ebisu (the guardian god of the sea), they were so chubby and cute🤣🤣 The various Buddha statues are exquisitely carved and look calm, which is very eye-opening and suitable for worship🤗🤗🤗

#Japan Attractions Jindaiji Temple can be reached by taking the Chofu 34 bus from Chofu Station, getting off at Jindaiji Elementary School-mae and walking for 5 minutes. You can also walk there after visiting Futaten Shrine. In Jindaiji Temple, you can meet various monsters from the Gegege no Kitaro comics and the Yokai Bus 🚌, Gegege no Kitaro, Ghost Eyes Dad, Star Mouse, Granny Sand, Grandpa Wa Wa, Cloth Vanguard, Wall Monster, full of childhood memories There is also a teahouse with a Gegege no Kitaro theme on the main street. The first floor sells simple refreshments, and the second floor is a small exhibition hall with an introduction to the Gegege no Kitaro comics and the author. Before visiting Jindaiji Temple, take a photo with Kitaro's friends. You can also try the famous soba noodles here and enjoy the scenery along the way.

#Japan Attractions I bought the Keio Line day trip voucher to have the most fun. From Takao Pass, I can take a direct ride to Tiaofu Station to see Kitaro's countryside Once you arrive at the station, you will see the Budoten Shrine According to legend, Sugawara Michika was born in the Year of the Ox. At that time, the cow holding the coffin was lying on the ground when passing by the current Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine area and was unwilling to move forward, so the coffin was placed on the spot. After that, the cow became the messenger of the gods Because when I arrived in Kitaro's countryside, I saw his statues everywhere, which was quite interesting😊😊

40 minutes by train from Shinjuku, you can get off at Chofu Station.. This is Jindaiji, loved by locals.. It is a place with an Edo-period feel and is also famous as a soba town. It is famous as the place where the author of the yokai anime Gegegege Kitaro lived, so there are Kitaro characters here and there, and there are tea houses commemorating them, so it is a fun place to stop by. I came to see Jindaiji Temple and eat the famous soba at Jindaiji Temple. It is so famous that I couldn't leave without eating it. Fried soba is 1,200 yen, but the taste was not bad. You can easily find a soba restaurant anywhere, so choose a good location and go.

I visited Kitaro Teahouse and Jindaiji Temple. Kitaro Teahouse was very cute as you can see in the picture. There were a lot of goods for sale, so I recommend that fans visit. There were cute cups and handkerchiefs☺️ Jindaiji Temple has a calm atmosphere, so we walked slowly while chatting and had the famous soba noodles. The Nogawa River, a tributary of the Tama River, flows for about 20 km through Kokubunji City, Koganei City, Mitaka City, Chofu City, and Komae City, and merges with the Tama River in Setagaya Ward. There are promenades on both banks, and there are many places where several to 10 cherry trees are planted, but the best place to see it is about 650 meters downstream from Mitaka Street between Enokibashi and Hosodabashi. From the bridge, you can see the branches of Somei Yoshino cherry trees planted along a quiet residential area drooping over the riverbank. There is a promenade with a car stop and a walking path on the riverbank, so you can enjoy it from any spot. This is the 47th of the 88 cherry blossom temple pilgrimage. It is not only a temple with a long history, but also one of the three major Daruma cities in Japan. The origin of Jindaiji Temple comes from a legend. There was a young man named Fuman who fell in love with the daughter of a wealthy family. However, the girl's parents strongly opposed it and isolated their daughter on a small island on the lake. Fuman, who was at his wits' end, prayed to King Shensha and a magical turtle appeared, which carried Fuman to the isolated island. After the girl's parents learned about this, they finally agreed to marry their daughter to Fuman. The child born to this couple was Master Man Gong. It is said that in order to fulfill his father's wish to worship King Shensha, Master Man Gong became a monk and founded Shenda Temple. Away from the crowded city center, enjoy greenery Jindaiji Temple, black fossil Onsen, and handmade soba noodle like a local. 0. Starting point: Shinjuku Station #shinjuku Take Keio Line for 20 mins to Chofu Station by Express or Limited Express train. No additional fee needed. 1. Chofu Station (調布駅) #chofu #調布 There's many venue for shopping, leisure, and food. Big Camera, game center, book store, movie theater, local restaurant alley... you can excercise life in Tokyo suburb. However, your first destination is Jindaiji, so don't eat lunch or explore too much yet! Keep it for your evening! 2. Jindaiji Temple (深大寺) #jindaijitemple #深大寺 This temple is famous for expelling bad luck & with greenery atmosphere. It's free of charge to just walk around, but if you want to casually pray, use coins to do so. If you head towards left, there's a buddha statue designated as a national treasure. There's really less international tourists here so I highly recommend to just walk freely and explore around the gardens, soba restaurants, local ice cream shops near the temple. 3. Soba restaurant #深大寺そば Jindaiji Area is famous for handmade soba. Every soba restaurants taste great, but if you don't like lining up and also looking for a good view lunch, go to Shimadaya (元祖 嶋田家). The second floor offers a beautiful garden view with a pond, bonsais and Japanese carps. 4. Onsen Yumorinosato (深大寺天然温泉 湯守の里) #onsen #温泉 This onsen offers a unique black hot spring with various outdoor baths, including a cave bath and a waterfall bath. The spring is black because it includes plants from fossil era. 1 hour course (¥1000) should be enough. [How to enter and pay at this facility] 1. Take off your shoes at the entrance and put your shoes in the shoe box. 2. Bring your shoe box key to the reception and tell them the course (crow course /hour course). 3. You will receive a wrest band so keep it with you while you are in the facility. You will pay by handing out the band when you exit. The band has a barcode which the staff will charge you later if you eat or buy something in the facility. And importantly, it's your locker key in the dressing room. 4. If you don't have your towel, grab one from the store (smaller one around ¥200 should be more than enough) and bring it to the reception. They will charge you money by scanning your barcode. 5. Take an onsen. Enjoy unique sodas sold in the shop. 6. Hand out your wrist band to the reception and pay. Get your shoe key in exchange. After you had enjoyed your onsen, take a bus back to Chofu station. There's many restaurants, so eat an early dinner and finish your day by having a coffee at a random cafe.

A 10-minute bus ride from Tsutsujigaoka Station on the Keio Line. I stopped by on my way back from Jindaiji Temple. I enjoyed a limited-edition melon parfait, fruit sandwich, and coffee in a calm, traditional Japanese-style building. The terrace seating is also lovely. Melon Parfait: 2,200 yen Coffee Set: +450 yen It's always crowded. It takes about 30 minutes after checking in before you can enter. They'll call you to let you know when it's your turn, so I recommend taking a walk in the nearby park while you wait.

To get there, take a 10-minute bus ride or a 20-minute walk from Chofu Station on the Keio Line; Chofu City also offers convenient business hotels (like the Chofu Creston Hotel). I highly recommend watching the games at Jindaiji because it hits the perfect trifecta of "Temple + Beer Garden + World Cup." Watching European powerhouses face off surrounded by the aroma of Edo-style soba feels like weaving the thrill of the tournament right into the fabric of an ancient capital. It's truly one of the most poetic spots to catch a match in the Kanto suburbs.

FC Tokyo vs Kawasaki Frontale, 2 PM, May 2nd, 2026 (local time) At 11 AM, I took the Keio Line train from the train station near the Airbnb in Sumida City to Ajinomoto Stadium, home of FC Tokyo. I got off at Tobitakyū Station. It's about a 5-minute walk from the station, and you can see the stadium from the station. At 12 PM, after about an hour, we arrived at Ajinomoto Stadium. Wow! It's a huge stadium, very fitting for Japan. There's even a cafe outside the stadium for guests to wait for matchday. At 1 PM, we entered the stadium. There were so many people! The commentator announced that there were approximately 33,000 spectators – the most I've ever seen at a football match. At 2 PM... The game kicked off with a tactical battle in mind. I forgot to mention, I was sitting in the Frontale supporters' section; they were jumping and cheering non-stop, even though their team was 2 goals down. At 4:00 PM, the game ended, and people started boarding trains back into the city at Tobitakyū Station. As I said, it's only a 5-minute walk from the stadium.
