🇨🇳 11 Days in China — 4 Cities, 4 Completely Different Experiences
If you only have 11 days in China, where should you go?
For me, China is not a country you can truly experience by visiting just one city. Every destination has its own personality, different food, different landscapes, different energy, and a completely different feeling.
That’s why this route caught my attention:
Chengdu → Chongqing → Zhangjiajie → Guangzhou
In just 11 days, you can experience relaxed Sichuan culture, futuristic city lights, dramatic mountain landscapes, and the modern energy of southern China.
Sometimes, travel is not about how many places you visit.
It’s about how each place makes you feel. ❤️

🐼 DAY 1–3 — CHENGDU
Food, Culture & The Art of Slow Living
Chengdu is a city that seems to know how to slow down.
Even though it is a major Chinese city, the atmosphere can feel surprisingly relaxed. Spending time in local food streets, traditional neighborhoods, tea houses and lively night streets is part of the experience.
📍 Highlights
· Sichuan food & local snacks
· Traditional cultural streets
· Relaxed Chengdu lifestyle
· Modern architecture & night cityscapes
· Sichuan Opera
· Traditional Face-Changing — Bian Lian
Watching Bian Lian live is completely different from simply reading about it. The speed, costumes and traditional performance make it one of those experiences that stays in your memory.
For me, Chengdu feels like the perfect place to slow down before the adventure begins.
📸 Photo Tip: Visit traditional streets from late afternoon into blue hour. The combination of traditional architecture and city lights can create beautiful photos.

🌃 DAY 4–5 — CHONGQING
China’s Real-Life Cyberpunk City
After the relaxed atmosphere of Chengdu, arriving in Chongqing feels like entering another world.
High-rise buildings rise across the mountains, roads run on different levels, neon lights illuminate the streets, and bridges glow above the river.
Sometimes you may even wonder:
“Which level am I actually standing on?” 😄
📍 Highlights
· Multi-level mountain city views
· Neon-lit night streets
· River & illuminated bridge views
· Historic architecture mixed with modern skyscrapers
· Skyline viewpoints
· Night walks
· Drone/light shows on selected dates
Chongqing is especially magical after sunset.
The city lights, mountains and rivers come together to create a skyline that feels almost unreal.
A mountain city this futuristic is something you really have to see for yourself.
📸 Photo Tip: Photograph the skyline twice, once during daylight and again during blue hour/night. The atmosphere is completely different.

⛰️ DAY 6–8 — ZHANGJIAJIE
Where Nature Feels Almost Unreal
After the neon lights of Chongqing, the journey changes completely.
Suddenly, you are surrounded by towering sandstone pillars disappearing into mist.
And the first thought might simply be:
“Is this place real?”
Zhangjiajie is famous worldwide for its dramatic mountain landscapes, which have also become widely associated with the visual inspiration behind Avatar.
📍 Adventure Highlights
· Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
· Towering sandstone pillars
· Cable car experiences
· High-altitude viewpoints
· Glass skywalk experiences
· Cliffside walking routes
· Rope bridge experiences
· Deep gorge scenery
· Misty mountain views
These three days are less about city sightseeing and more about nature, adventure and simply standing still for a moment to take it all in.
There is something special about reaching a mountain viewpoint, watching the mist move between the peaks, and realizing how small we are compared with nature.
📸 Photography Tip: Early morning and misty conditions can create some of the most dramatic mountain photographs.
⚠️ Travel Tip: Expect plenty of walking. Comfortable shoes are essential, and a light jacket plus rain protection can be useful because mountain weather can change quickly.

🌆 DAY 9–11 — GUANGZHOU
Modern China Meets Entertainment & Adventure
For the final three days, the journey moves back into the modern side of China.
Guangzhou offers a completely different atmosphere, metropolitan city life, modern architecture, food, entertainment and access to attractions around Guangdong.
📍 Experience Ideas
· Modern skyline & night views
· Futuristic attractions
· Theme parks & immersive entertainment
· Glass-bridge and waterfall experiences in nearby Guangdong areas
· Water activities & slides
· Indoor snow / ski experiences
· Scenic rail experiences
· Cantonese food
And of course, don't leave Guangzhou without trying its food culture.
Dim Sum and Cantonese cuisine are more than just meals, they are part of the experience of being in southern China.
After 11 days of mountains, adventures and city lights, ending the journey with a great Cantonese meal feels like the perfect final chapter. ❤️

🚄 HOW TO PLAN THIS 11-DAY ROUTE
Day 1–3: Chengdu
Day 4–5: Chongqing
Day 6–8: Zhangjiajie
Day 9–11: Guangzhou
For transportation between cities, you can consider high-speed rail or domestic flights, depending on your schedule, budget and preferred travel style.
The most important thing is not to pack every day with too many attractions.
Give yourself enough time to actually experience each destination.
A good itinerary should leave you with memories, not just exhaustion.

💡 PRACTICAL CHINA TRAVEL TIPS
📱 1. Prepare Your Apps Before You Go
Before travelling, prepare the apps you may need for maps, translation, transportation, communication and payments.
Having everything ready before arrival can save a lot of time and stress.
💳 2. Set Up Cashless Payment in Advance
Mobile payment is widely used in China, so before your trip, set up either Alipay or WeChat Pay and link it to your Visa or Mastercard.
This can make everyday payments such as restaurants, shopping and transportation much more convenient.
Tip: Complete the account verification and make sure your card is successfully linked before you leave home. It is also wise to carry a small amount of cash as a backup.
🚄 3. Plan Your Train Tickets Early
For popular routes, convenient train times can sell out, especially during busy travel periods.
Once your itinerary is confirmed, check your preferred train schedules and book ahead when possible.
🌦️ 4. Check the Weather
Weather and humidity can affect your experience, especially in Chengdu, Chongqing and Zhangjiajie.
Always check the forecast before heading out.
👟 5. Comfortable Shoes Are Essential
This route includes plenty of walking, especially in Zhangjiajie.
Comfort should come before fashion when choosing your travel shoes.
🎟️ 6. Check Attraction Tickets in Advance
For popular scenic areas, performances and theme parks, check ticket availability, opening hours and booking requirements before your visit.

Looking back at this route, what makes it special isn't just the number of places.
It’s how different every city feels.
Chengdu shows you the beauty of slowing down.
Chongqing shows you a city that seems to glow all night.
Zhangjiajie reminds you how powerful and beautiful nature can be.
And Guangzhou brings you back into the energy of modern China.
Eleven days are nowhere near enough to discover all of China.
But they can be enough to experience four completely different sides of this incredible country. 🇨🇳❤️
If China is on your travel list, save this route for your next adventure.
