Ciwidey travel guide and discussion

Vacationing in Bali is not enough, how about curing your longing with a staycation in Bandung that feels like Bali ✨ I recommend staying here ✨ A tropical Bali-themed resort located in Ciwidey, Bandung Regency, offering an intimate stay experience with 24/7 hot private pool facilities. With mountain and garden views, this place is perfect for honeymoons, family staycations, or gatherings. Strategic Location: Located near Happy Farm Ciwidey (about 400 meters away) and easy access to Kawah Putih and Ranca Upas.

Kawah Putih in Ciwidey, Bandung is straight-up otherworldly, giving major “alien planet” vibes! This epic volcanic crater lake is roughly 50 km south of Bandung and is open daily from 7 AM to 5 PM. Just punch in: Jalan Raya Soreang Ciwidey, Sugihmukti, Pasirjambu, Bandung, West Java. First things first: snag your tickets at the lower entrance before entering the park. From there, you’ve got options, either hop on the park’s shuttle (called Ontang Anting, which honestly is an adventure in itself!) or drive your own ride up the twisty 5 km road. The air gets so much cooler as you climb, so bring a hoodie if you’re sensitive to cold. Once you reach the top, it’s a chill and easy stroll to the crater. Kawah Putih was created after a volcanic eruption back in the 1930s, and it’s still geothermally active today. The turquoise-blue water? Absolute showstopper! The color shifts depending on sunlight and temperature because of the crazy-high sulphur and mineral content. You’ll notice a strong sulphur smell in the air, so don’t be surprised! This place is jaw-droppingly gorgeous and soooo Instagrammable but fair warning: don’t linger too long. People with respiratory issues, young kids, pregnant peeps, or anyone sensitive to sulphur should limit their time near the water and wear a mask if you’ve got one. Get ready for local vendors approaching with umbrellas and photo services. Heads up: nothing’s free here! Always check the price for any extra photo ops. There are fancy paid photo spots, but honestly, you’ll get awesome views (and pics!) of the main crater without spending extra coins. Kawah Putih is a bucket-list natural wonder, best enjoyed calmly, quickly, and with full respect for the wild vibes of Mother Nature. Hot tip: don’t forget to peep trip.com for updated tickets and deals before you go! #KawahPutih #Ciwidey #BandungTrip #WestJava #VolcanicLake #NatureInIndonesia #BandungTravel #IndonesiaNature #TravelNotes #ScenicIndonesia #FamilyTravel #ShortGetaway

This park or hill has its own uniqueness. Its uniqueness can be seen from the different shapes of fir trees. Not the same as in general, the cypress trees on this hill are short and resemble mushrooms. Surely, you can imagine how cute that tree is. Mushroom Hill, this name was given not without reason. Maybe some people who are new to this place, will think that this hill is full of growing mushrooms. But this is a big mistake. The name of the mushroom is taken from the shape and the trees on this hill. This hill in Bandung is in the shape of a half ball. It is located in the highlands and is filled with mushroom-shaped spruce trees. That's why local people always refer to this place as a hill or mushroom garden. Talking about the conditions, the air around this hill is quite cold. This is because of its location in the highlands and filled with green trees. Another reason that causes the temperature here is quite cold because it is located at the foot of Mount Patuha and Mount Tilu. This place may not be popular everywhere yet. This is because it cannot be said to be a tourist spot in Ciwidey. It is only shaped like a garden, but beautiful. The form of the park which is presented in the form of a hill with unique pine trees will make visitors feel at home. It is known, there is also very suitable to be used as a place for selfies. #naturalwonders#themepark

The sound of birds chirping also adds to the cheerful atmosphere in the morning. One of the uniqueness of this lake comes from the folk legend that is stored behind it. The name of this place comes from the story of Ki Santang and Dewi Rengganis who had to be separated. They tried to find each other, until one day they met in this place. Patenggang is said to come from the word 'pateangan-teangan' which means looking for each other. After meeting, Rengganis asked Ki Santang to build a lake with a small island in the middle. This small land is now called Sasuka Island or better known as Asmara Island. #beautifulsunsets#naturalwonders

Located at the foot of Mount Patuha, Rancabali District, Bandung Regency, West Java Province, the White Crater of Bandung is one of the natural attractions in Bandung that is very uplifted thanks to the Instagramable photos taken here. In fact, behind its popularity as one of the favorite tourist attractions in South Bandung, there is another thing that makes the White Crater Ciwidey Bandung impressive: this natural tourist spot in Bandung is one of the best tourist locations to hunt sunrise in Bandung! Kawah Putih itself is a crater lake formed from the eruption of the peak of Mount Patuha, one of the volcanoes in West Java. The water in this crater lake has a very high acid content, which causes its surface to appear greenish white or even blue and brown - the color of this surface can change according to the sulfur concentration in it and the temperature. Let's To Visit! #summervacation#hikingtrails#urbanexplorer

One of the activities in Southern Bandung was the opportunity to get close to the deer at Kampung Cai Ranca Upas and for those travelling to Kawah Putih, it's just a few hundred meters away from the main entrance. Penangkara Rusa - meaning captive deer in Bahasa Indonesia. If you like animals, then you’re going to enjoy this next stop. Kampung Cai Ranca Upas is a popular camping spot in Ciwidey that’s also famous for its Javan deer conservation program. For IDR 10,000, you can buy buckets of carrots to feed the deer. The deer are used to being fed so they aren’t afraid of getting close and demanding carrots from you! We were here just to feed the deer but there are other activities as well like mountain biking, archery, and paintball. #urbanexplorer #besttrip #summerdays

Kampung cai Rancaupas is located in Ciwidey, Bandung. 2 hours drive from Bandung and 5 hours drive from Jakarta without traffic. This place is good for family vacation because this place has it all and it’s safe for kids. #urbanexplorer #qingmingtravel #urbanexplorer#qingmingtravel

The lake and its surroundings is great. It is like a ship stranded on a small mountain. You will have to walk across a hanging bridge which can swing here and there. haha. when you reach the ship, you will have to go up to the upper deck to have a great view of the lake and mountain. Go early in the morning to avoid traffic and crowd. It stinks of sulphur in the later part of the morning. There is a nasi padang restaurant on top of the ship. Around the area are some gift shops. There are two lorries that sells food also reasonable price. Overall worthy experience due to its cost, scenic view and cool weather there. #urbanexplorer #qingmingtravel #urbanexplorer#qingmingtravel

Cibuni Rengganis Crater. Had an awesome time here. Took the Gojek bike ride up since it will be a long way up and down. It was scary since the road is very steep. But we survive. Natural hot spring and mud bath available. The area is clean but they need to maintain it since there are many people visiting the area everyday. Love this natural scenic place. Its a fine walk in approx 1km and smells full of sulphur upon approaching the attraction. The village people there are nice and friendly too. Worth the visit and try if you are in Bandung. #wintergetaway #happynewyear #tripinspired #wintergetaway#tripinspired#happynewyear

Excellent place to visit while in Ciwidey area, with its cool and fresh air, surrounded with natural greenery, and not-so-wild deer to play around with. The landscape was really nice but could have been improved like better path ways and cleaner rest rooms. I think its best to visit during weekdays where there are less people in the facility. Fun experience to be up close with the deers. It’s safe if you have kids but the deers might chase after you if you have their snacks in hand where you can buy it before you enter the Ranch. #wintergetaway #happynewyear #tripinspired #wintergetaway#tripinspired#happynewyear

Have trip with the girls is the most crazy trip as well, we are talking without limits and finally we found cool resort in Ciwidey, Bandung, Indonesia. Always gotta make time for a durian break, right? 🚗🌟 Somewhere on the drive from Ciwidey back to Bandung, we pulled over for a roadside durian FEAST—because in Indonesia, you KNOW what’s up! This country is basically the durian capital, with each region serving its own iconic vibes and mouthwatering flavors. Here’s the scoop: Java’s local durians are suuuper fragrant with a bittersweet kick (trust me, the aroma hits different 👃). Then you’ve got Sulawesi’s famous Monthong—think next-level creamy, tiny seeds, and gloriously thick flesh. Taste-test pro tip: you’ll totally notice the differences! The unique combo of season, soil, and climate is the secret sauce that makes every bite an adventure. No two durians are ever the same—snacking here never gets boring! Tip: It’s easier to travel around in Bandung if you have your own car and vehicle, Grab is available but for many stops and long distance, hiring a day vehicle is more convenient This pit stop, we went all-in with two heavy hitters: the local white durian (classic!) and the ultra-premium Monthong imported fresh from Palu, Sulawesi. The Monthong was literally DREAMY—so creamy, bursting with flavor, naturally sweet, and totally balanced. Plus, that tiny seed + massive fluffy flesh combo? Major W. Honestly, it tasted like the best kind of slow-ripened, sunshine-kissed goodness. 🥰 You’ll spot roadside durian stalls like these all over the main routes in West Java, especially along Jl. Propinsi in Pasirjambu (exact location: Kp Mekar Rasa Desa No.151, RT.002/ RW.009, Pasirjambu, Kec. Pasirjambu, Kabupaten Bandung, Jawa Barat 40972, Indonesia). Most are open every day from morning until late at night, so you can swing by whenever the craving hits. Next time you’re cruising between Ciwidey and Bandung, don’t sleep on these epic durian pit stops. Grab a few friends, crack open a fruit on the spot, and snack like a local!
