I lived in Daegu for almost nine years, and one of my favorite hobbies was finding beautiful cafes. It didn't matter if they were tucked into the mountains, hidden in a quiet neighborhood, or spread across three floors with rooftop views. If a cafe had great coffee and a space where I wanted to linger, I was there. Some of my favorites are still Sweet spots like A.Nook, where brunch comes with sweeping views of the city, and Orda, where I could watch the sunset from the rooftop. I also loved Chelsea-style spaces like Libra Cafe near Camp Walker, The Differ's European-inspired interior, and the greenhouse feel at Slow Life Cafe. Honestly, I thought you could only find this kind of scenery overseas, but with the recent opening of an abandoned quarry, a new spot has emerged in Korea where you can enjoy truly exotic views. This is a quarry located in Gachang, Daegu. Because the water is incredibly deep at around 30 meters, you can see a striking emerald water color 🩵 The harmony between the surrounding rocky cliffs, the trees, and the sky creates an absolutely spectacular view :) When you visit in person, the color of the water is so mesmerizing and beautiful that you just can't take your eyes off it. Admission is free, so you can visit without any hesitation, and there are plenty of great spots to take photos all around, making it a truly healing experience! I finally visited "stable moment," a large bakery cafe in Dalseo-gu that I'd been wanting to go to for a long time! The exterior is overwhelmingly large, and the interior is a beautifully spacious area from corner to corner. The moment I opened the door, I was enveloped in the fragrant aroma of bread, cakes, and baked goods, making me feel incredibly happy… The drink menu is also quite extensive, making it difficult to choose what to pair with your meal. Korean bread seems a little more expensive than in Japan, but the portion sizes are enormous! It seems that "sharing and enjoying together" is part of the culture here. In addition, everything is visually stunning and photogenic. Everything looked so delicious that I ended up wandering around the sales floor multiple times with my tray in hand…! The building has three floors, with the first floor being the bakery and eat-in space. As you go up to the second and third floors, the interior concept and atmosphere change dramatically on each floor, which is very stylish and shows great attention to detail. The spacious interior of the shop is a major plus, allowing for a relaxed and unhurried experience without feeling crowded. We sat on the third floor, and with fewer people, we were able to enjoy a quiet and leisurely time. Actually, we bought two loaves of bread for two people, but they were so big that one was more than enough! We had the other one beautifully wrapped and took it home (we appreciate this kind of flexibility!). Most of them weren't famous places with long queues, but the food was seriously delicious. I don't have a high tolerance for spicy food, so I was initially worried it wouldn't suit my taste. My friend always made sure to order one mild dish and one hot and sour dish. Every single one was incredible, and even I could handle the spice! Plus, the weather was amazingly comfortable☀️☁️ We had some rainy days, which were cool and pleasant enough for just a shirt. When the sun came out, it wasn't humid at all; Daegu is more on the dry and hot side. ❤️ My Favorites Ranked: 1️⃣ Cold noodles: I prefer the soup version, absolutely loved the refreshing buckwheat noodles! 2️⃣ Sweet and sour pork: I easily devoured 3/4 of the plate myself. 3️⃣ Fried chicken: Went drinking in Gyodong and randomly hit up a late-night spot with some Koreans. Dookki Tteokbokki Hot Pot has actually opened branches in Taiwan, but I've never tried it there. I figured if I was going to have it, I might as well enjoy the most authentic version right here in South Korea. Dookki is a famous all-you-can-eat Korean tteokbokki hot pot restaurant. The brand's core concept is exactly what its Korean name implies: First Meal: Start by enjoying a delicious tteokbokki hot pot. Second Meal: Use the leftover broth, add white rice, seaweed, kimchi, and other toppings to make fried rice. After eating, you'll be so full and satisfied that it truly feels like you've eaten two meals in one. The restaurant offers a variety of sauces and rice cakes for customers to mix and match to their liking. The moment you arrive, you can spot the iconic, cute yellow cable cars zipping through the valley. First-Time High-Altitude Views: As the cable car slowly ascends, your field of vision instantly expands. Looking out the window, the magnificent valleys of the Palgongsan mountain range unfold right before your eyes, with varying shades of green interwoven with pops of pastel pink mountain flowers. Our timing for this visit was just impeccable! We happened to catch a Children’s Day special event (어린이날 행사) held inside the station. According to the schedule on the wall, early May featured a variety of interactive activities like sketching, face painting, cotton candy, and a "Lucky Roulette Wheel" (행운의 돌림판). Just for the fun of it, we decided to give the prize wheel a spin. Who knew Lady Luck was on our side! When the pointer stopped, we actually won a free lunch on the spot! The hiking paths at the peak of Mount Palgong are incredibly well-maintained. The whole way features gentle, easy-to-walk wooden boardwalks and clear signage, making it super friendly for independent travelers looking for a nice hike. A Natural Forest Bath: Heading up the stairs, we were surrounded by a dense, lush canopy. We even spotted a few highly conspicuous, out-of-season red maple leaves that looked absolutely stunning against the emerald green foliage. We queued from 12 PM until 2:30 PM, enduring a full 2.5 hours before finally getting in! Although the queue outside was ridiculously long, after actually eating it, the rich, spicy flavor and the incredibly tender, braised pork ribs made us exclaim, "It was totally worth the wait!" 🌍 Internationally friendly!
