Agra castle

#celebrateit Agra Castle, which overlooks the magnificent Taj Mahal across the Yamna River in northern India, was built in 1565 by Akbar, the third emperor of the Mughal Empire. Surrounded by a wall more than 20 metres high, the castle is the red sandstone "Jahangir Palace", which is said to have been built by Akbar for his son, and the 5th Emperor Shah Jahan, who was driven out of his position by his son after the completion of the Taj Mahal, are imprisoned. Buildings from the glamorous era that were the centre of the Mughal Empire, such as the tower "Musanman Burj", remain. Agra Castle, where successive emperors of the Mughal Empire lived for about 300 years, was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1983.
