Detroit: the Motor City

Detroit is often a forgotten city in the USA. It does get a bad rep for being a city of urban decay. However beyond this gritty image there lies a city to be explored and a city that's reimagining itself. The downtown core does have its fair share of decaying and abandoned buildings but it still does have many fine examples of art deco buildings that date back to the booming years of Detroit as an industrial powerhouse. As such it's interesting to see this contrast of the post and present. The city has a Greek town where you can still find many Greek restaurants. A bit further you'll find the Renaissance center which could be seen as a world away from the gritty side of Detroit. It's a very modern and clean center that's owned by GM and right on the riverside, making it also a very relaxing place to sit and relax. Overall, Detroit is a safe enough city. Use common sense of course especially in more rundown parts of the city. When all is said and done, Detroit has a vibrant downtown scene with picturesque majestic buildings. #travel #explore #city #detroit #usa
