Sveitsi Ski Center

The meaning of Sveitsi in Finnish language equals Switzerland. But this is not real Switzerland, this is a town called Hyvinkää where the Sveitsi district is located. The district got its name from a German speaking family that used to live in the area. It’s just a coincidence that the local ski center is located there. But that area has been the local center of winter sports (and actually summer sports too) already from 1950’s. There are 4 lightened ski slopes with elevations ranging from 40 to 80 meters and slope length between 250 and 400 meters. Despite its small size the ski resort has been investing heavily in the artificial snow machines hence leading to one of the longest seasons in the southern Finland. The ski center opens typically late November or early December after sufficiently cold nights. Actually they need only a few days of cold weather. They are trying to keep the center open until late spring which is exceptionally long considering the location in the very south Finland. You can get to Sveitsi Ski Center by train or by car from Helsinki. It takes about an hour to come. The prices are stated in the last picture. The price table was in Finnish only but “tunti” means an hour in Finnish and there are also evening- and day tickets available with free admission to children under 6 using a helmet. I think the center itself is very basic but I really appreciate the efforts of providing a long season this south.
