Go underground at Tytyri mine in Lohja

Tytyri mine is a still active limestone mine in the town of Lohja in southern Finland. The current main mine is about 350 meter deep but visitors are allowed to take the fastest elevator in Finland to visit the 110 level which is practically 80 meters below the ground level under the town of Lohja. There are only guided tours to the mine and the visits lasts about two hours in total. There are some permanent exhibitions inside the mine showing Finnish mining history and the mine itself. You can also rent a hall inside mine if you want to organize a get together or a party. Getting to the mine is fairly easy. From Helsinki direction: Motorway E18 branches northward to Lohja at intersection 23. From there, drive 25 km along the Hanko–Hyvinkää road to the centre of Lohja. Continue straight along Suurlohjankatu and on to Karstuntie, and from there follow the signs. At the third roundabout after the intersection, turn onto Kuilukatu and drive to the end of that street. Kuilukatu ends in a car park, and next to it is the visitors’ entrance center for Tytyri Mine Experience. You can check the opening hours and prices from the web but the admission prices in 2021 are 18 euros for an adult and 10 euros for a child. There is also a family ticket for 53 euros for two adults and up to three children.
