Shanghai’s Bustling Classical Garden

Believed to have been built in the Ming Dynasty (more than 400 years ago) Yuyuan Garden is by far the busiest, and most popular, classical Chinese 'gardens' I've been to. If you want to visit, you'll definitely need at least around 1 or 2 hours to fully explore the area, because there is plenty of classical Chinese architecture, sculptures and carvings, and a bustling bazaar to admire! Plus, there's a blend of decorative halls, pavillions, bridges, pagodas and more to wander through. With the number 9 said to bring luck, don't miss out on crossing the Jiu Qu Bridge (9-Turn Bridge) and at the end of your auspicious crossing, you can dive into the oldest teahouse in Shanghai for some mcuh needed refreshements (you'll definitely need this if visiting during a busy time...). If you can visit just as the sun is about to set, you'll get to witness the beauty of the architecture both during that day, and as it lights up at night - which is well worth doing.
