Scotland Argyll Forest: Puck’s Glen to Coire na h-Eanachan Gorge Waterfall Climb
#arrivalguide Important 2026 update: Puck’s Glen Gorge Trail is closed for the whole season after Storm Éowyn dropped trees and undermined the Victorian staircases—I arrived in June and the gate was locked, rangers firm about it. Do not duck the tape; the path is genuinely unsafe. Instead I did the alternative circular from the same car park (PA23 8QT, free parking, 5 miles north of Dunoon on A815): up the open hillside east of the glen, through young conifer, to the head of Coire na h-Eanachan, the hanging valley above Puck’s Glen where the burn cascades in three tiers with no fence at the lip. That detour is unmarked, rough underfoot, and demands care in mist—but it gave me the gorge waterfalls from above, which is the better view anyway. The Benmore Botanic Gardens café (1 mile north) is the nearest toilet/coffee, card only. Footwear: the hillside is boggy even in drought; my trail runners soaked through by the second stream crossing. A wrong assumption I made: that Puck’s Glen would be open because older blogs say so—always check the Forestry and Land Scotland notice before driving the Cowal peninsula. Discussion: when a marquee trail closes, do you pivot to the unmarked variant, or skip the area entirely?

Benmore Botanic Garden, Dunoon – A Forest of Giants and Calm
#hellohalloween
Benmore Botanic Garden is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places we’ve ever visited. Tucked in the hills near Dunoon, it feels like stepping into another world — towering redwoods, trickling streams, and endless paths winding through lush green landscapes.
We walked beneath massive trees that made us feel tiny, crossed little stone bridges, and paused often just to listen to the sound of birds and running water. The Avenue of Giant Redwoods near the entrance is breathtaking — straight, tall, and awe-inspiring — but every trail leads somewhere new and equally magical. The avenue was closed when we visited, you couldn’t walk on it but you oxide still admire it.
There are benches and viewpoints scattered throughout, perfect for picnics or quiet breaks, and the small café at the entrance is lovely for a warm drink after exploring, though my kids opted for ice-cream.
Peaceful, wild, and full of wonder — Benmore Botanic Garden is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and beautiful walks.

A magical walk in Puck's Glen, Dunoon
#hellohalloween
Puck’s Glen feels like stepping straight into a storybook. Tucked away just outside Dunoon, this magical gorge walk winds through moss-covered rocks, tumbling waterfalls, and twisting stone steps that lead ever deeper into the forest.
It’s one of the most atmospheric walks in Scotland — shaded, cool, and full of that enchanted feeling you can’t quite put into words. Every turn reveals another tiny cascade or ancient tree draped in green. Even on a misty day, it’s stunning (maybe even more so).
The trail is well-marked but can be steep and slippery in places, so good shoes are a must. We looped back along the gorge track because of storm damage, causing trees to fall on the trail.
If you love fairytale forests, trickling streams, and places that feel hidden from time, Puck’s Glen is one of Scotland’s most unforgettable short walks.
