After the long journey, this massive French Renaissance-style estate felt like a bridge between the Old and New Worlds—just on an impressively grand American scale. The salon with its antique piano really stuck with me. When the soft afternoon light filters through the tall windows onto the keys, you can truly feel the elegance of a bygone era. The library at night also exudes an incredible sense of peace in the dim lighting—it's the kind of place where you'd want to spend hours getting lost in old books (quite a contrast to the sterile university libraries I'm used to). Naturally, I did a bit of research beforehand on where to get a good meal, as the culinary history of a place like this always fascinates me. It's fascinating to see how the "farm-to-table" concept was already a way of life here over a century ago. A truly wonderful trip that will stay with me for a long time to come.
