2026 Flinders Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in August)

#epictravelmoments Finally, I waited until last Sunday for a rare sunny day to re-visit the Cape Woolamai Circuit, which is about 9km long and very simple. The official time to complete it is 2-3 hours, but I took 4 and a half hours because it was so photogenic! I spent a lot of time taking photos and even climbed a bit on the accessible sea cliffs. This trail is undoubtedly the closest and most beautiful coastal hike to Melbourne! (The second place is the Cape Schanck via Two Bays Walking Track I posted two weeks ago.) The main reason is that the scenery is rich and varied. On such a short trail, you can see vast coastlines, bizarre sea cliffs, sea cliffs, grasslands, calm bays, beaches, forests, and even glimpse the coastline of the George Bass Coastal Walk. An important tip is that if you follow the route on All Trails to complete the loop, the beach section starting from Old Granite Quarry may be impassable if there is high tide, making it impossible to complete the loop. You need to choose to take the 2km shortcut back to the parking lot when you see the signpost, or continue on the 2.5km loop. This trail is also suitable for a day trip combined with Phillip Island. There are plenty of guides for Phillip Island online, but I still recommend zooming in on Google Maps and clicking on each place marked with attractions to see pictures and reviews, and find your favorite lookout and/or short trail. This is also my method for finding places I like when traveling to any country or place. Additionally, I recommend a stunning photo spot I discovered by chance on the way. The approximate location is Phillip Island Road, Service Road, San Remo VIC 3925. Its name on Google Maps is "lookout," and the picture is p1. I arrived just as the sun was setting, and the light was absolutely perfect. It's my favorite photo recently!! Finally, coastal hikes must be done on a sunny day!! Always thought you had to fly to Tasmania, Iceland or the town of Golden Knife to see the aurora? I never expected that in Melbourne, I encountered the rare Aurora Australis explosion in my life! Standing by the sea that night, looking up at the entire night sky dyed in a fantastic pink purple and neon green, countless light pillars (Light Pillars) dancing in the starry sky, everyone present in unison! The shock and emotion of that moment will really make your eyes heat up, and it is definitely the most priceless memory of this trip to Australia! ✨How are the Aurora Australis different from the Northern Lights? Compared to the green curtains common to the Northern Lights, the Southern Lights in Australia are very prone to the rare pink, magenta (Magenta) and purple! Because aurora particles collide with oxygen and nitrogen molecules in the higher layers of the atmosphere, presenting an extremely romantic two-color gradient effect! 💡 Melbourne Aurora Chasing Practical and Pit Avoidance Strategy (must receive if you want to see the Aurora): 1️⃣ Essential artifacts and apps for light chasing 📱: Pay close attention to the Kp index (solar storm intensity). When Kp ≥ 5, the suburbs of Victoria have a chance to see it; when Kp reaches 7 or higher (Geomagnetic Storm), even the suburbs of Melbourne and even the seaside can be seen with the naked eye! It is recommended to download an app such as My Aurora Forecast, or join the Facebook community "Aurora Australis Victoria", where tens of thousands of local photographers instantly report burst locations. 2️⃣ Best places to watch and shoot in Melbourne📍: There are only two principles: "South-facing" and "Keep away from city center light pollution"! This was truly a trip of a lifetime. Jules, our guide, was fantastic, and the other guides, Heidi in Flinders and Lucinda on King Island, were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The food throughout the trip was superb—I had the best beef and crayfish of my life on King Island. Chef Ian amazed us with his culinary skills at Wild Harvest, which itself has an incredible story. Kangaroo Island and Southern Ocean Lodge offered the best service I’ve ever experienced. Calvin took great care of us and made us feel so welcome. Every room featured breathtaking views that made it difficult to leave, but with a 30-degree plunge pool and Kangaroo Island waiting to be explored, the choice was a challenge. There’s so much to praise about this trip, but to sum it up: it was a journey of a lifetime.

1st trip to Melbourne and I am falling in love with the beautiful scenery in front of my eyes! Every angle paints a different beautiful picture and I just can’t wait to go back again! What a stunning and absolutely beautiful spot to go to. The colour of the water is so blue and the waves are gentle yet breathtaking. There is a short trail down to the lower level where you will come to a large open area with unique rock formations. The hike is absolutely worth it for photo taking opportunities. Easy difficulty even for elderly people. Always supervise children as there are uneven cliff areas
