This sea cave, measuring about 4 to 5 meters in diameter, looks as if a god opened a divine well into the ocean as the tides flow. The scene is both awe-inspiring and mesmerizing, earning its reputation as one of "nature's most magical wonders." Countless photography enthusiasts and adventure seekers travel here just to capture the moment and personally experience the powerful atmosphere as waves roar through the sinkhole. 🌊 · *Travel Route & Suggestions:** We recommend taking Highway 101 along the Oregon Coast to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area; Thor’s Well is located just south of Yachats. From the parking lot, it’s just a few minutes’ walk along a clearly marked trail. The best time to see it in all its glory is during high tide or during stormy weather when the "waterfall" effect is most dramatic. However, please be extremely cautious of slippery rocks and sudden waves. · *Must-Visit Photo Spots:** We recommend positioning yourself at the nearby observation deck or along the trail. A low angle works best to capture the magnificent "water pillar" shot. During sunrise or sunset, the slanted light creates stunning contrasts. Many photographers use slow shutter effects to capture the fluid motion of the water. 📸 · *Pro Tips:** 1. Safety is paramount. Be especially careful during high tide and heavy swells. #easytravelpost The Green Lakes trail in Oregon’s Three Sisters Wilderness starts from the Dutchman Flat or Fall Creek side depending on the season; I used the Fall Creek trailhead off Highway 46 near Sisters. A Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful pass is required for parking. The lot is small, unpaved, and full by 8 a.m. on weekends. The hike to Green Lakes is about 5 miles one way, 1,000 feet of gentle gain, then a moraine meadow opens up with three things at once: the South Sister volcano straight ahead, a braided creek, and a set of shallow emerald lakes colored by glacial silt. I camped one night at the designated sites near the middle lake. A wilderness permit is self-issued at the trailhead for overnight trips and required from Memorial Day through October. Day hikers do not need it but should still sign the register. What surprised me: the mosquitos at dusk were brutal in late July. Head net, DEET, and a tent with good mesh are non-negotiable. Google Maps says it’s about a 3 hour drive from Portland to Yachats. We somehow turned it into almost 6 hours, and honestly, it became one of my favorite days in Oregon. If you’re driving the Oregon Coast for the first time, don’t rush. Half the magic is stopping whenever the coastline makes you pull over. Here’s the route I’d recommend. 📍 Stop 1: Cape Foulweather (20 to 30 mins) Your first proper ocean view. Wide open cliffs, endless Pacific Ocean, and the perfect place to stretch your legs after leaving Portland. 📍 Stop 2: Devil’s Punchbowl (30 to 45 mins) A massive collapsed sea cave where waves crash into the rocks. Visit during high tide if you want the most dramatic views. 📍 Stop 3: Yaquina Head Lighthouse (1 to 1.5 hours) This was probably my favorite stop of the day. Walk to Oregon’s tallest lighthouse, enjoy the coastal viewpoints, and if the tide is low, head down to Cobble Beach. 📍 Stop 4: Newport (1 to 2 hours) The perfect lunch stop. We had breakfast at Cafe Stephanie before wandering around Nye Beach and the harbor. If you’re a seafood lover, you’ll have plenty of options here. 📍 Stop 5: Heceta Head Lighthouse (30 to 45 mins) Another postcard-worthy lighthouse sitting on dramatic cliffs. Even if you don’t hike up, the viewpoints from the parking area are worth the stop. 📍 Stop 6: Cape Perpetua Scenic Area (1.5 to 2 hours) Don’t skip this one. Explore Thor’s Well, Devil’s Churn, Spouting Horn, and drive up to the Cape Perpetua viewpoint for one of the best panoramas on the Oregon Coast. 📍 Arrive in Yachats Try to get here before sunset. Yachats feels quieter than Cannon Beach, with rugged cliffs, crashing waves, tide pools, and a peaceful small town atmosphere that’s perfect for slowing down. Our total driving time: about 3 hours. Our actual trip: almost 10 hours. And I wouldn’t change a thing. My biggest tip? Rent a car, leave early, and don’t plan every minute. Some of our favorite memories came from random roadside pullouts where we stopped simply because the view was too beautiful to drive past.

Visit Hobbit beach A short forest trail leads to a secluded beach surrounded by cliffs. Perfect if you want a quieter beach than Cannon Beach. 5. Ride an ATV on the Sand Dunes One of the most exciting activities on the Oregon Coast. Drive across massive sand dunes with ocean views. Tours are available for beginners, and helmets and safety gear are provided. Price: Around US$70 to $150 depending on the tour. 6. Horseback riding on the beach Ride along the coastline through sand dunes and beaches. Nearby stables offer guided rides for beginners and experienced riders. Price: Around US$80 to $150 per rider. 7. Drive the Oregon Coast highway (Highway 101) Simply driving this stretch is an attraction itself. You’ll pass towering forests, dramatic cliffs, hidden beaches, and countless scenic pullouts. 8. Grab a brink at Pelican Brewing Great seafood, local craft beer, and outdoor seating overlooking the beach. Perfect after a day of exploring. 9. Stay in a cozy beach cottage Instead of a hotel, book one of the charming beach cottages around Yachats for a quieter coastal experience. Watch the Sunset over the pacific Unlike the U.S. East Coast, Oregon’s west-facing coastline delivers spectacular sunsets over the ocean. Many of the best viewpoints are spread along Highway 101. If you’re driving between Portland and California, Yachats makes an excellent overnight stop.

Starting from the Grotto Trailhead, the trail climbs steadily via a series of switchbacks known as "Walter’s Wiggles" before reaching Scout Lookout. From there, the real adventure begins—gripping onto chains while navigating a narrow ridge with dramatic drop-offs on either side. The final push to the summit is both thrilling and nerve-wracking, but the view at the top overlooking Zion Canyon is absolutely breathtaking. I recommend starting early to beat the crowds and avoid the midday heat. Make sure you have a permit (now required), wear sturdy shoes, and bring plenty of water. Hey everyone! Since you're used to me always jetting off to Tokyo or Osaka during my holidays for the anime and fandom vibes (honestly, that's my favorite place to be 😭), I decided to switch things up a bit this time. We went on a quick 5-day trip to the US West Coast, specifically Oregon and Washington. Honestly? The vibes were surreal, and I didn't expect to have this much fun! First up, we visited the Redwoods and Mt. Rainier. The forests there are so magical that I literally felt like I'd stepped right into a scene from a Studio Ghibli movie! The trees are incredibly giant, and the nature is just breathtaking. We also swung by the Sea Lion Caves—the noise was a bit much, but it was such a funny and entertaining experience. After that, we headed to Seattle. Of course, I couldn't miss out on The Spheres by Amazon; the design looks like something straight out of the future! We also went to the Space Needle, and the view from the top at night with all the city lights is absolutely stunning. By the way, there's something important I need to mention... the food portions at the restaurants there are insanely huge! A single dish can easily feed two people. We always ended up ordering and sharing to avoid wasting food. Oh, and before I forget, if you're planning to go, sort out your B1/B2 visa early because the paperwork and interviews can sometimes take a while. Anyway, I'm back in Dubai now, back to the hustle of my Master's research and studies... but honestly, this trip was an amazing way to recharge.
